I don't begrudge anyone for disliking the new season as long as they are keeping their mind open and are willing to revisit the show.
It's somewhat hard to judge anyway because it's designed as one long movie.
I think the approach one should take to all David Lynch is just enjoy each scene for what it is. Don't think too much about how all the parts fit together. Save that for later.
Well, you can't blame for people judging this as it's released. I look forwards to doing an 18 hour marathon after the series is all out though, and I do expect a lot of the things that have bothered me so far probably won't once all the pieces fit together.

Judging it is a natural reaction. Some things are going to turn people on or off right away. You can't avoid that.
But my point goes for both positive and negative reactions. Depending on how plotlines develop, it could turn a previously positive reaction into a negative one and vice versa.
I can see myself coming around to this new series more as we get further into it, but we just watched episodes 3&4 and my wife/co-host Mel seemed to hate them.
What's your take on the Doopleganger seeing BOB in the mirror, similar to Leland when he was possessed?
Mr C doesn't act remotely like Bob, acting completely like a new character with his own agenda. Plus Coop (our Coop) also seems to be a completely separate character with his own agency as well. It's nothing like the Leland / Bob thing.
We'll know for sure at some point, but I think Bob is still out there somewhere. Maybe inhabiting a character we have already met.
Maybe just flying by in owl form.
Also, in episode 29, we are first introduced to the doppelganger as a separate entity to Bob.
So I long wondered if Coop was possessed by Bob at the end of 29, or if the doppelganger got out. It just doesn't seem like a thing that would happen to have Bob possess the doppelganger.
We've seen Bob in mirrors before, almost always in the context of inhabiting Leland. Except for in the pilot.
So I think Bob is just checking in with the doppelganger in 29 and having a good laugh with him. Maybe he did temporarily inhabit him as he can inhabit owls... but I've seen zero evidence in season 3 that Bob is in there anywhere. Plus Lynch just refers to the character as the doppelganger... but that's sort of cheating and using outside sources.
I know Lynch himself said that, but I mean, ultimately, it IS a TV show lol. Besides, a movie frequently interrupted by a musical performance would be even more redundant IMO.

Twin Peaks returned on May 21 and immediate headlines about its ratings performance weren't terribly kind. After all, only 619,000 viewers tuned in to its two-hour premiere, a small portion of what a Showtime original typically draws. But subsequent DVR lifts and streaming data paint a more positive picture, albeit one where viewers clearly favor the pay network's streaming platforms.
As of Friday morning, at least 1.7 million viewers have tuned in to the Twin Peaks two-parter. More than half of those viewers did not watch it on the linear network last Sunday or on their DVR. Live-plus-3 returns have that audience rising to 804,000. So somewhere in the vicinity of 1 million watched on alternate platforms, including the OTT Showtime app and subscriber tie-in Showtime Anytime.
Watched the first 4 eps binge-style, very rare for me. Really loving the show.
Looking forward to them going to Deer Meadow, which I think is inevitable with Harry Dean/Fat Trout featured briefly in trailer. I haven't read all of the pages in this thread but I'm surprised more folks are not asking about Deer Meadow, since the show has already been all over. Would love to see Desmond or Stanley back in the mix. With Jeffries already referenced, I just have to imagine they will cover Desmond's disappearance in some form or fashion.
Other notes ... Golden shovels/spray painting scene cracked me up with its very methodical pacing. I've loved the scene pacing in this early eps.
Like others have mentioned, the Wally Brando scene was a hoot. I just loved how his parents flanked him throughout ... all three actors looked like they were about to crack up any moment. The earnestness of him "paying his respects" was just killer. Truman's reactions were note perfect. Really liking Forster, didn't realize he may have been Lynch's first pick for the sheriff role (?). Still would like a surprise Harry cameo though. Back to Wally ... For those not familiar (or to assume everyone may not follow the "homage"), I would encourage folks to google image Marlon Brando and "The Wild One" for reference.

I guess this is just gaf being negative about everything... I have watched the first 4 episodes so far and are absolutely blown away. I think it's better then 75% of season 2 and for some parts coming near the level of season 1. Episode 3 was just BRILLIANT. Absolutely loved the fact

I've got my toes in a lot of different Twin Peaks related communities.
GAF has always seemed to lean much more towards being David Lynch fans first rather than Twin Peaks fans first. Like, GAF seems to have an above average fondness for Mulholland Drive compared to a lot of places.
So yeah, the reaction here is probably the most positive alongside the Twin Peaks fest community (and TV critics!). More general TV and Twin Peaks communities seem more split.
I get it though. People wanted that same fuzzy feeling back. For me, given how risky and challenging the show was for it's time I don't think I'd want the new series to by musically and stylistically closer to the original two seasons. It's the most daring thing on TV right now... and that's 100% appropriate.
I'm actually surprised overall the response everywhere to the season is so positive. There's certainly people who don't like it, but I kind of thought while watching it this show was going to be so mixed due to a number of things about it.
I have loved all four episodes so far though, they've really struck a chord with me. If it continues to strike this chord for the rest of the season, this has an actual chance to become my favorite tv series ever and potentially my favorite thing Lynch has ever done. To be seen.

The only part of the show I haven't liked so far is in episode 3&4:
The sequences with vegetable Cooper are so long. They are grueling to watch. They made me and my girlfriend so anxious because they annoyed us so much to watch. We don't dislike the concept or even the plot point, they just go on so so long and we find it uncomfortable to watch.

That was our take away from it as well, but after the fact. So it doesn't mean they're unsuccessful scenes, they're just so unpleasant to watch. If that's what Lynch wanted, it works perfectly. But it's still a section we will dread on the rewatch.

For what it's worth, those scenes felt, at least to me, better and not so long upon my second watch of the episodes. I still hope we get the real Coop back soon
I enjoyed these scenes on my first watch but even more so on the second.
I think on first watch you have no idea where they are going. You just keep waiting for
Coop to turn back into a normal person. But it keeps not happening. It's hard not to wonder how long he'll be stuck like that. And so it's hard to appreciate the scene for what it is.
On a rewatch you know what you are in for, so it's much easier to get lost in the scene.
That was the first time since he left the Black Lodge that he uttered something that wasn't a repeat of what the people he encounter say to him though.
"Call for Help", "Hello", etc were all just repeats of things that he hear people said.

what if the woman Albert and Gordon are going to find is Diane? It would make total sense but it could ruin the fun of never actually knowing what she looks like
You can actually see the moment it happens at the beginning of episode 3, in the room with the fire. As he's trying to approach the socket in the wall, it's frying his mind.

Haven't made time for last Sunday's episode yet. Prolly should soon. It's been ok so far.
American Gods and Twin Peaks are an amazing Sunday night double header for me. Those two and Better Call Saul are my favorite in-season shows right now.
I usually save Veep and The Leftovers for when I'm bored. Fargo's been somewhat dull this year.
