I've only seen these animes in English so I can't compare them, but I thought these were quite good:

Code Geass
Gundam 00
Psycho-Pass
Cowboy Bebop

  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Anything Dragon Ball dubbed by Funimation
  • Black Lagoon
  • Space Dandy
  • Samurai Champloo
  • Yu Yu Hakusho
  • Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood included)
  • Outlaw Star
  • Hunter X Hunter
  • Hellsing Ultimate
  • Drifters
  • Gurren Lagann
  • My Hero Academia
  • One-Punch Man
  • Mob Psycho 100
  • Yuri on Ice
  • 91 Days
  • Trigun
  • Kill la Kill

I really enjoyed the 4Kids dub of Pokemon up until Hoenn started. The English script got significantly less funny after Ash left Johto.

I didn't watch a ton of DBZ while growing up (didn't have cable), but over the past two years I started to get into it and I find the English Funimation dub to be infinitely more fun to watch than the original Japanese.

And, of course, Ghost Stories.

Came here to post Hero Academia. Proud of you, GAF.

I'd like to add Hunter X Hunter (the newer anime). Keith Silverstein as Hisoka just knocks it out of the park.

Hisoka sounds great in the 2011 dub (as does Uvogin), but most of the other characters sound forced.

MHA, on the other hand, has a really good dub that feels natural.

Eva's english cast takes a few episodes to warm up imo, but it's really good after.

Except for Tiffany Grant. She's perfect from the word go.

Cowboy Bebop
Stand Alone Complex
Samurai Champloo
Wolf's Rain
Space Dandy
Black Lagoon
Death Note
Yu Yu Hakusho
Baccano!
All the Ghibli movies
FLCL
Girl Who Leapt Through Time
The Boy and The Beast

I could go on for a while honestly. As someone who enjoys watching stuff dubbed, I think dubs have gotten way, way better for modern stuff. Ever since the mid 90's. Not every show or movie is great, but it's rarer these days for a dub to be bad.

Hellsing Ultimate, Jojo Season 1-2, both Full Metal Alchemist, Dragon Ball series, and Monster, Yu Yu Hakuso. Hunter X Hunter 2011 is not that bad too actually.

So usually anime that take place in the west and some Shounen anime.

Cowboy Bebop I have not watched in years but the English voices and tone generally fit that world well. Have some gripes with it but the main cast fit well.

FLCL as well as it was well translated and the references made were changed into what could easily be the "English" equivalent of whatever was said. Stuff like the Japanese version referencing "Guitar Wolf" and the dub changing it to if I remember right Jimmy Hendrix or maybe Elvis (I think Elvis)

  • 91 Days
  • Baccano
  • Berserk '97/Golden Age Trilogy
  • Black Lagoon
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Death Note
  • Dragonball Z Kai/Dragon Ball Super
  • Durarara
  • Golden Boy
  • FLCL
  • FullMetal Alchemist
  • Hunter x Hunter 2011
  • Kill la Kill
  • Mob Psycho 100
  • My Hero Academia
  • Ping Pong
  • Psycho Pass
  • Samurai Champloo
  • Space Dandy
  • Steins;Gate
  • Trigun
  • Yu Yu Hakusho

All probably rank among favorites.

I just finished My Neighbor the Yamadas and I thought the dub was good. I don't have strong feelings about Jim Belushi one way or another, but I thought he was especially good casting for the dad.

I couldn't even list all of them for myself, as it would basically everything I've watched in recent years, especially from Funimation. Good list there as a starter.

Just some I don't see mentioned often, dubs for Solty Rei, Gun x Sword, Oh Edo Rocket, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Book of Bantorra, Birdy the Mighty Decode, on and on.

Bebop is immediately what comes to my mind. Ruroni Kenshin (Samurai X) was also great. I'm curious about that Space Dandy dub.

I'm surprised My Hero Academia is a popular dub. I thought it was One Punch Man levels of bad for the English dub (All Might excluded)

There are some Animes that actually have some great english dubs, Dragon Ball Z for one at the top of my head.
Oh god, no! There might be some good english anime dubs but DBZ is not one of them, awful voice acting, horrible music and the inability to have quiet scenes.

I actually haven't heard a good english dub, even the better ones suffer from the VAs sounding like they're reciting lines, it always has an artificial feel to it. It's weird because american voice actors in cartoons are often phenomenal but there seems to be very little overlap between anime voice acting and cartoon voice acting.

That's because they are. They're voice actors, that's kind of their thing.

Also the JP version of DBZ is trash, grandma Goku is awful.

Don't worry though though. DBZ dub hate is the first step to coming out as a weeaboo.

The lack of Monster in this thread is disturbing.

The cast is enormous at yet every single person sounds extremely natural. It's probably the most impressive dub I've ever heard across both anime and videogames.

Death Note also deserves a mention. It has a really amazing dub that's even better than the Japanese version.

Wolf's Rain

Cowboy Bebop

YuYu Hakusho

And lots of other anime already mentioned

All the shit I grew up on, funny enough. I also prefer to watch Ghibli movies in english, their dubs are pretty high-quality efforts.

Amazing film, with a solid english cast. All of the characters sounded unique and natural

Steins;Gate:
The characters English voice actors really spring them to life and give them personality. In contrast to the Japanese voting actors who make them seem generic or even off-putting. Kurisu in the English version sounds like an intelligent and proud young woman, who does have a shy side she desperately tries to hide. In the Japanese version she is lacks her intelligent and proud persona, and seems to be just a nervous shy girl who always seems to get borderlined bullied by the main character. Mayuri is even more ridiculous. While she admittedly seems a bit "off" in the dub, with the sub I believe that she is literally mentally challenged with how "out of it" she seems.
Everything you described about the English Kurisu applies to the Japanese one as well, unless there's been a massive shift in direction in the anime vs. the VN (full disclosure, I am basing this assessment on her portrayal in the latter). As for Mayuri...well, yeah, she's rather ditzy. A sweet girl who has her moments of being more observant than one might expect, but still a ditz (regardless of language).
TIL DBZ Kai has a new dub
And awful new music, at least until the Buu arc (which actually has a decent soundtrack).

Cowboy Bepop
Yu Yu Hakusho
DBZ Kai
DB Super (Depends on how the rest of the series goes)

While i do like these dubs i still dont think they are as good as the Japanese versions.

Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist (both original and Brotherhood) spring immediately to mind.
Fullmetal is good in both languages but English is the definitive Bebop.

My Hero Academia's dub has been both excellent and awful. Perhaps because they have to rush to do the same-day-dub releases.
The casting is solid but sometimes the choice of translation/phrasing is completely off.

My mind immediately went to Yu Yu Hakusho. It's probably the best imo, Kuwabara is too good. Cowboy Bebop is a real contender though.

but they shouldn't sound like they're doing it.

Sorry to disappoint but I'm not a weeaboo, I just hate the american DBZ dub because it's objectively awful.

Then you haven't seen many dubs.
I haven't seen that many, that's true. But I've seen parts of DBZ, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Death Note, Gurren Lagann and none of them were really good. Death Note obviously isn't on the same level as DBZ or Sailor Moon, it's much better than that but still not something I'd call good.

SF2 : The Animated Movie
Castle of Cagliostro
Street Fighter V
The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armor
Slayers
Guyver 2006
Dragonball (Not z, funi dub, not ocean dub)
Cowboy Bebop
Outlaw Star
Tenchi Muyo/Universe
Big O

Baccano! (might be my favorite dub ever)
Black Lagoon
Cowboy Bebop
Yu Yu Hakusho
DBZ

There are some others where I prefer the dub but these are easily my favorites. Need to give HxH a rewatch dubbed sometime while I wait for new chapters.

dbz funimation is great
It factually isn't. It's wrong on a lot of levels and gets characterization wrong and changed lines unnecessarily.

There's a reason the voices actors themselves prefer Kai. After 10-15 years of doing the same character you kind of know what the fuck they need to be.
