The Surge |OT| Live Die Repeat

The soundtrack is pretty weak tbh.
But the game itself is great. The level design reminds me of Demon's Souls. The beginning of the game is unique and pretty good. The combat system is Dark Souls combined with new (great) additions.
Everyone who wanted Dark Souls to go Sci-Fi should try this game. I've played Lords of the Fallen and it was okay for the first few hours.....but in the end I didn't like it. It's amazing to see a developer learning from mistakes. This game is good, really good. Probably the best Souls clone ever.

I made it to the last area, combat is still just as fun as it has ever been. Trying to finish one last side quest. I found all the comics but the trophy didn't pop. I made up through floor 2 and found a new enemy shooting something at me and then the game crashed. First crash this whole time. Time for dinner.

I came into this game with such low expectations and have thoroughly enjoyed it more than my time with Dark Souls 3, which was still a great game. Was not expecting to feel this way.

It really is fun and I love the souls games too. The combat is very and refreshing to play. I have become tired of playing it yet.

Finally beat the first boss...

Like in most cases with those kind of games... Once it finally clicked in my head I completely destroyed him without healing at all lol.

On to the second zone now!

Also... Now that we can put our own music in OPS, anybody has good suggestions for songs that would fit the setting well?

Running around what I believe to be the final area with 70k scrap on me, screaming during every fight because I will never make it back to where I am in time if I die...I just barely found my way back to a TOTALLY different Ops.

This zone is confusing as hell and not necessarily in a fun way.

Since putting a dozen hours into this game post-launch-pre-patch, my brain has associated every difficult life consideration/contemplation with the soundtrack of "I was bornnnnnnnn, in a prisonnnnnnnnnnnnnn." It's somehow simultaneously the least catchy and most catchy musical intro I can recall in recent memory. I desperately want to forget it forever, but then also I don't...what's happening to me.

I think the Remember Me soundtrack could be a good fit.

Found the drugs for that guy in area 2. Headed back to give them to him, and found a huge new area to explore.

In doing so I came across what appeared to be another boss. I noped the fuck out of there.

doesn't seem like the game sold well (at least not here in the USA)...looks like another For Honor in terms of disappointing sales

Maybe, but you can't really compare the two. This game's expected sales were probably 1/20th of For Honor's. I think in the medium-long run the sales will be good enough.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Sadly, there are no plans for any DLC. I've talked to the dev team several times, and nothing is planned. Still, the game is 3 weeks old, so that could change.

Isn't the Surge going to be at E3 at the Focus booth? I believe they stated they were going to talk about post launch support while there though that doesn't mean DLC.

Yes, we have an interview with them. But this is going to be just more exposure for Focus Home Interview. Several of The Surge devs will be present as well.

I'm ok with no DLC if this dev group keeps growing by leaps and bounds like they did with The Surge and deliver another game in 2 or so years.

Their turnaround time from LotF was impressive, even as time was spent delivering DLC for that one.

The Surge is a lean, complete game. I say leave it as-is and go for the next game :)

Why do people hate last zone so much? Easly the best zone in the gane, the layout is fantastic.

Last boss is kinda disappointing, very weak and easy to kill. First phase is super easy, and as long as you're using mid to high impact weapons is a walk in a park, as the boss will be thrown of balance with every third combo hit and that allows for 5 straight combo hits without ever being touched.

I like the design of the last boss and the concept of the fight was good in general. The second form needs a bigger moveset tho, cause it's too easy to read and avoid all the attacks.

Beat the game twice, NG and NG+, got all the weapons and armors, all the trophies, I did everything there was to do etc. I think I'm gonna put on hold my third playthrough for later.

I really love the game, I hope we gonna get some DLC.

I hate the last zone because of those
enemies that you need to overcharge to kill, annoy AF.

Unlocking a shortcut in that kind of game still gives me that special warm feeling that I really don't get anywhere else... It's soooo fucking satisfying.

Anyone have tips for the assholes in area 5 that makes them easy?

liquidator gear, which has high enviro dmg resistance

A lot of the flamethrower guys will kill themselves if you let them via you breaking environmental stuff that leaks gas then hail tailing it while they incinerate themselves, or via baiting the gas grenade launching dudes into doing the same thing. The flamethrower dudes with elite hazard gear have gas tanks on their back which if hit = 1HKO. Also, R&D is the first area where enemies noticeably start doing a ton more damage. If you're not, start putting on HP boost implants so you're not getting one or two shotted by enemies.

I misnumbered my area there. I'm talking about those dudes you have to overcharge.

Ah

Best thing you can do with them is stay close to them (their ranged attacks are what's nasty), use drone shield and medium-heavy armor to negate dmg while you get into a DPS race with them.

Also, after they spawn the minion STOP attacking after you knock them down. If you keep attacking they'll glitch through their rebuilding animation and counterattack you, making you miss the overcharge window.

Most importantly: ignore them. You only really have to fight like 2 or three of them.

I accidentally went to R&D after beating Big Sister 1/3. Is there a way back to the earlier locations? I need to farm some materials there to upgrade some of my gear.

R&D is great for farming scrap though. I kill 3 guys and their drones and suddenly have 12K scrap.

I just cheesed the last phase with my impact drone.
Constanly charging into the boss and throwing it around so I could land 2 hits for another drone etc.

Fucking real shame if this game doesn't get DLC. I would have already bought the season pass.

Waiting for console patch to start NG+

Just farm the beginning of R&D, once you get to the exhibition floor. You get Mark III material and 16k scrap once you get comfortable with the first hallway. You won't get Mark III weapon mats until a bit later in that level though.

Nothing will be as efficient as farming there at the point you're at.

No, no. I want the mark I parts. I need to go back to Abandoned Production to get that.

Spoilers for the back half of the game:

Man these enemies with the guns are just really boring to fight.

I don't mind the game reusing enemy types from earlier sections, but between these guys and the only other humanoid enemies being ones I've fought before a bunch of times,
the "new equipment" economy has come to an almost grinding halt in the last couple sections I've played. Which is a huge bummer because it underminds one of the more interesting elements of the earlier parts of the game, targeting limbs to get specific equipment.

This game is neat. I started it over the weekend and I still haven't beat the first boss yet but I can already tell I'm really going to like it.

Are you aware that you don't need Mk 1 materials to craft an item?

Oh and keep going through R&D you'll find a door that leads straight back to Central Production B.

But I do need mark I materials to upgrade an item, don't I?
The materials count for some of my new weapons is red, indicating I need more of them.
