That's just me, though. I've learned my lesson after shows like Dexter that punishing yourself just to be a completionist is such a waste. I've abandoned a lot of shows recently for that very reason: there's just too much scripted TV out there that I *might* like, so I can't afford to waste the little time I already have on shit I don't like.

Unless, of course, you enjoy watching shows you don't like and shit talking on the internet about them. No joke, you might actually enjoy that. Maybe you consider yourself something of a television critic. That's cool too. I'm just saying that if you're in it for the enjoyment and you don't enjoy the show then... why?

He can keep raising questions but he and fans of his work gotta stop giving their 'stock' justification how answers to questions he repeatedly raises 'aren't what X show is about'. And it's not like there aren't other things to criticize The Leftovers over.

I continue to watch the show for the crazies, and it delivers. Only another 8 episodes. For better and worse, there's nothing like it on TV but its surreal mish-mash could have been more appealing with a better approach.

One thing to note, is that season 1 was based on a piece of literature. Season 2 and 3 are both interpretations of what would follow and it's told from Lindelof's perspective. Most of the supernatural shit started in season 2 and carries over into season 3.

As you note, none of the awesome character development and journey needed the supernatural either. So if you were always going to be inconsistent and turn heel with a "it's all in his head" approach, I'm going to be left wondering "Why?" It reeks of something to keep people watching. Season 1 didnt get the ratings that 2 did.

The author of the book, Tom Perotta, is one of the executive producers and is at least as involved as Lindelof is

I suspect the show isn't going to confirm or rebuke the supernatural elements, beyond The Departure itself. It could be a whole lot of co-incidence (and unlikely events) or it could be more. That's up to the viewer.

ADORE the show, btw.

One mystery I feel they have to answer is why why Kevin keeps coming back. I don't really care if the place he goes to is purgatory, the other place or wherever, I just want to know why he's suddenly able to resurrect.

And I'd also like some kind of explanation for why the town of Miracle seems to either heal people or give them powers like Kevin...

This show sometimes...I mean I like it but some episodes are a little boring but I just watched the episode on the boat with the orgy people and the Lion and it was hilariousy good...hahaha loved it. ;P

But I wouldn't be surprised if there were members of the audience who were not satisfied by the way The Leftovers ends, because you can't please everybody all the time.

I don't know why I start watching a show where I know I'll want to know the answer to the main premise but the creator says from the start they'll never answer it. I have too much of a sense of "what if". Ugh.

Really, there are no good explanations for why Miracle is a supernatural hotspot or why Kevin is capable of crossing over into purgatory and back, and it's not as if there are any authorities in the story to give the explanations (in Lost parlance, there's no Jacob figure here, though his explanations weren't very satisfying either!). They're just things that happened. More freak supernatural occurrences in a world defined by a major freak supernatural occurrence.

I honestly don't need any of that at all. Not saying you shouldn't want it answered, and you're wrong for wanting to know, but I don't think we're getting that. For me, it's been about the feelings all this crazy shit elicits within the characters, and thus, me. I'd actually be disappointed if there was some sort of actual explanation offered. It would take some of the magic of fucking Patti singing the Patty Duke theme with twin Kevins in front of her away from me. I'm not gonna quote "let the mystery be"'at you, but for me, it's enough. A really nice reveal/explanation we DID get that I wasn't expecting was what Burton whispered to Kevin on the bridge last season. That's the level of explanation/answer I'm preparing myself for.

If Lindelof wants to be taken seriously he must stop this shit. Yet again the old stock answers that side-steps the real question. Most of the viewers aren't demanding answers for the Departure but for the many other things since. Stop playing dumb and stop evading.

I don't know. Knowing if Kevin is accessing an 'afterlife' world or just deep soul searching makes a lot of difference for 'emotional reality of how people are interrelating with one another'. Is his epiphany presented on a platter thanks to events happening unrelated to him in the afterlife or is this dressed-up soul searching. In any case, he still needs to suffer life-ending injuries to go there instead of just seeing a shrink. So i think that's fucking important to address.

Swinging the pendulum again to suicidal Lauire out of the blue is also doing a disservice for his stated goal. So is bombing Miracle's GR and glossing over the ramifications and repercussions of this act on the already explosive relationship between the GR and the rest of society. It's much easier to skip years ahead and sweep it under the rug. Michael gets neglected and this pivotal moment in his life (Evie's death) is pretty much meaningless. Regin'a character got written out (scheduling) but so was Kevin's daughter and son, the former's relationship with her dad and the back and forth between the two being a prominent portion of the first 2 seasons.

I think Lindelof is not playing dumb or evading things, he just prefers to be closer to "letting the mystery be" than to "explain everything" in his storytelling. I am somewhat nervous about the finale because I hope he does not try to explain to much since I really enjoy the more ambiguous aspects of the show.

In an interview Lindelof confirmed that at least one ambiguous thing will be addressed in the finale:

I really hope Sky Germany doesn't fuck this up again. Already happened two times now that they did not make the episode available the next day. And with Monday being a holiday here I have a bad feeling about this...
