Where were the Sonic games for Vita?

Also, it does bum me out that the Genesis games never got ported to Vita. We got Sonic Classics Collection on DS, but that was kind of a shit show.

For what it's worth, the PSP version of Sega Genesis Collection does work on Vita. You need to transfer it from a PS3 system, though.

I don't really consider WipeOut 2048 a racer, which is why I omited it. (Yeah I'm weird, WipeOut/F-Zero games are in their own category for me).

So that leaves LBP Kart, The quickly forgotten Ridge Racer and some Rally games we didn't seem to get in NA?

Wasn't also some Asphalt game by Gameloft/Ubi?

It's kinda strange that they didn't even bother to throw 1-3 on it.
I can't remember if they really put any of their classic franchises on it other than PSO, if you want to count that.

Sonic Mania is an august 2017 game.

It's not coming to ps2, colecovision, or the wonderswan either

So you mean there's a chance for a Vectrex port?

I too wanted a Sonic Rivals 3?

Backwards-compatible for $10 digitally and came with 28 games including Sonic 1 and 2.

They could've at least localized Puyo Puyo Tetris for it.

Sega is probably done with physical Vita releases by now, and the Vita version would have needed to be physical only like the PS4 version to bypass Ubisoft's existing license.

The biggest question I have is why didn't they localize the Xbox One version? The Japanese release probably sold like 3 copies, so it would have been a good occasion to actually bring that port to a somewhat profitable level...?

According to Wikipedia (I know) PS Vita sold about 4 million in 2 years (2011-2013) when Sony stopped reporting sales. EEDAR estimates 10 million in 4 years (2011-2015).

I guess the bigger question is "how many people who bought a Vita still own one?"

The answer is probably fewer than you'd expect.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'active' install base of PS Vita was less than that of Switch. Added to that, Switch is still in growth phase.

That being said, I'm glad the Vita is still getting new games such as VNs. Playing Code: Realize at the moment :)

For racing games on the Vita, there's the ones mentioned already in addition to some MotoGP games, MXGP, and Cel Damage HD - might be more, but it had way more racers than the 3DS.

Most third party devs stopped Vita support within the first year and during the period Sonic was exclusive to Nintendo for awhile. Yeah, some ports could have been okay in 2012 but just didn't happen :(

Where is Sony when it comes to the vita?

Theres always the weirdo possibility that Sony tries to emulate the Switch. I mean, they made the Wonderbook so Sony does weird shit sometimes.

But it's a clearly a case of Don't Count On It, possibly Probably Never Going to Happen.

As much as I love my Vita.

I mean Wonderbook was just an AR book (Nintendo has done a similar thing with the 3DS such as the Fatal Frame: Spirit Camera) using the existing PS eye and Move accessories to read a book. It was also done with J.K. Rowling. Non of that sounds outrageous and actually seems like it could have been successful.

Now another portable that's outrageous.

The actual answer is that Sega had a 3 game exclusive deal with Nintendo for Sonic during most of the Vita's life cycle.

Look at the era the Vita was released in. It never got Sonic games for the same reason we never got Dragon Quest on PS3 until now.

I swear, gaming is going to be so much better after Nintendo exits this industry.

What does this even mean?

Nintendo is likely going to be the last man standing with dedicated hardware. Sony and Microsoft will move to service models first.

Switch really feels like the Vita replacement. Playing Mania on the latter would've been pretty sweet on the OLED screen, but the Switch's quality screen is nothing to laugh at either. Games like MK look amazing in portable mode.

As for games. I forget Vita didn't get Rivals 1+2, just Racing Transformrd. Playing The remastered games on the Vita would've been such a treat as well.

This is technically true, but no one forced Sega to make this deal.

Except for Sonic CD, there werent many Sonic titles released during Vita life that could've been released there.

PSP and DS got two original titles each, but let's disregard that if you wish so. Vita could have gotten either a slightly late down-port of console Generations or a slightly late up-port of 3DS one, at Western launch of the thing. This is not a case of a platform sneaking between major releases of a franchise, Sega had to be concerned about Vita day minus one.

Yeah, if the Nintendo DS never existed the PS3 would have outsould the PS2 in Japan and got the Dragon Quest games it deserved. /s

They made a mistake by not making a Sonic erotic game, cause that's what the main install base now is interested in. For shame, Sega.

I mean, there weren't that many Sonic games during the Vita's life that would've made sense; the majority of them were going Nintendo exclusive.

You can still get Sonic 1-2-3 on the SEGA Mega Drive PSP Collection.

Plus Sonic Rivals 1 & 2.

Air Race Speed
Asphalt Injection
F1 2011
HTR+
Modnation Racers
MotoGP 13, 14
Motorstorm RC
MXGP
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Ridge Racer
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed
Table Top Racing
WRC 3, 4, 5

Probably a few more, can't remember any though.

Hopefully Drift Stage happens one day.

Oh dam, Please tell me the Megadrive collection is on UK psn... My wallet is not ready.

It certainly is.

The 3DS didn't even get a proper Sonic game. Despite what you think of Sonic Rush, the GBA and DS both got a series of dedicated Sonic games that were fairly solid and well made, then the 3DS got a very rushed version of Generations which was okay but lacking in content, two pieces of low budget poorly made trash and an okay-ish game in Fire and Ice, which was outsourced to a different developer. I suppose Sega just figured there was more money in mobile game development?

What's the deal with that? Why are so many collections missing 3K? It can't be music rights, cuz that was Sonic 3 I thought.

Whatever it is, it's the same reason why we never got a 3D Classic or Taxman version.

Yet it was able to get on Steam...

There's Sonic Racing Transformed...and I think that's it? They put quite a few other Sega games on it but no other Sonics.

I'm pretty bummed out about no Sonic Mania tbh, not too bothered by the rest.
Tempted to get it on PC, but I've been the original sonics on vita (retroarch emulation) and enjoying them there a lot, they're a perfect fit with a great d-pad, screen and a nice handheld size.

It's a shame. 2D really suits the Vita well.
I don't think Sega has ruled it out yet, so I'll wait a bit.

There's like 20 million vitas out there and it's still getting releases, especially in Japan. Not holding my breath properly but just maybe...

If they release a switch with a decent d-pad I'll get it there if there's still no vita version.

How many racers were released for the vita? I can only think of 3 (Sonic, NFS and modnation)

There's that Ridge Racer game that launched with two tracks or something, and I think there's a Little Big Planet kart racer?

No LBP racing. Modnation was kinda like that, great user-generated tracks and mechanics, but not great framerate, loading times and character designs. Ridge Racer launched pretty bare bones but it was cheap, with all the DLC it was decent but it was 30fps vs the 60fps PSP titles that were awesome which was kinda hard to jump to, didn't quite feel right. The ultimate edition with all the DLC was decently priced at least.

Sonic
NFS
Modnation
Ridge Racer
Wipeout
Motorstorm RC

WRC 3, 4 & 5
Oh, Deer! (PSM - outrun like)
MXGP
Table Top Racing
Asphalt Injection
Jet Car Stunts?

I'm pretty sure it was able to get onto Steam because that was just a straight-up port. I think the copyright issues would only come into play if the game or music was edited in some way. Source: my ass

We've seen it in a few compilations but it's never been edited. Also, the PC version has different music, and there are certain tracks from Sonic 3 that have never been remixed in other games (the same ones not in the PC version).

I'm afraid you aren't exactly knowledgeable about this. Steam version of S3K is a straight emulator with Genny music. The different music was in retail version from nineties.

Edit: or maybe you know this but other people don't? I will leave this post as is for now.

I'm talking about the PC version in the late 90's, not the Steam version.
