It may be based on a bad movie, but I'll take it.

The Mummy Demastered from WayForward, known for pixel games that bring the look and fun of classic arcades to modern consoles, is a platforming adventure game based on The Mummy. Launching in late August 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam, players will enter a world of evil as an elite Prodigium agent who is tasked to take down Princess Ahmanet's army of the undead and save the world at any cost. Players will explore dark forests, maze-like military compounds and the sandstorm-filled streets of London in this retro-inspired adventure.

Wow that's actually pretty cool. Is this a metroidvania? Judging from the screenshot it seems to be one. Which makes it 1000x better imo.

Demastered of a bad movie. Guaranteed great game. I have math to back me up:

- - = +

Irrefutable.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Reminds me of the Alien game on DS. Which is pretty great.

Screenshot looks promising, so I'm interested... despite having no interest in the source material whatsoever.

Looks cool but Wayforward......

What about them? They've made a bunch of really cool 2D games. I'd imagine this one's like their underrated Alien: Infestation on DS.

I don't get the name though, what the hell does Demastered mean? A Remaster is making something look better than the original. Demastered is...making it look worse? Worse than what? The shitty movie it's apparently based on? I mean it looks great based on the screenshot?

I didn't much care for their Aliens game, which is full of good ideas very poorly executed (cover system, bosses, multiple playable characters, level design), so hopefully this is better.

There was some great 2D licensed stuff on DS, can't remember exactly which ones WayForward did though. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows on DS was a Metroid-type game and was more enjoyable than the 3D ones on home consoles. Thor and Aliens Infestation were both also good. Then there was Contra 4 too. They've got a good pedigree for this kinda thing.

In for Wayforward Metroidvania, don't care about the license, but I'm guessing that barely matters anyway, and is just an excuse to fight some monsters.

Never played a game of theirs that I've been impressed with. Adventure Time on the 3DS in particular was a massive disappointment.

Wow, so many people in this thread already watched the movie? Really surprising! I thought it had low interest!

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Need more info on game setup, pricing, and platforms.

Screenshot looks legit. You have my interest WF!

As usual from Wayforward it looks beautiful, let's just hope the actual gameplay lives up, that's the most important part.
Aliens and Thor on the DS were not that great imo.

Updated the OP with additional info from the press release. Surprised that Night School is doing a mobile game; hopefully it has better QA than Oxenfree or their Mr. Robot game, neither of which I was able to finish due to game-killing bugs.

Their Alien game had a map too, but didn't have much exploration. Will wait and see if it's much of a Metroid-like at all. Could be a good game either way.
