I was looking around at the comics and info about them. I see that there was a prelude comic to assassins creed 1. Then that was followed by Assassins Creed Volume 1-8. Going off wikipedia, it seems those were only released in French? Im assuming they arent , canon? So for canon, its that AC 1 prelude and then jumps to assassins creed The Fall, the chain, Brahman, Trial by fire. And I guess everything that was published by Titans is the meat of the canon comics?

Edit: oh, i just saw those volumes were translated to English. They look interesting with egyptian stuff. But I would only want to stick to canon

Basically this. But if you want to catch up on the modern day stuff, yes the Titan Comics series are what you want. Assassin's Creed and Templars, followed by Uprising (and Reflections if you want little vignettes.)

I would also recommend Brahman since it first introduced the Koh-i-nor and certain characters that are fairly important in Uprising. Also it's a gorgeous book.

I wonder who the female character you can play as looks like.

Presumably the modern day protagonist is Charlotte de la Cruz, according to a 'leak'.

Ubisoft really can't control leaks for much, can they?

Leaks, huh..
E3 2017 has already begun, and you can enjoy it from your laptop

Each year, the publishers do a little dance around each other, hoping to give their keynotes the best chance to dominate the E3 hype cycle. They change theaters. They move the pressers a little earlier or later. They spice them with celebrities, popular bands, and Cirque du Soleil. They litter social media with teases and rumors.

But the newest method is to simply beat the competition to the punch. Have you noticed a number of video game leaks, announcements, and “key art” hitting in the past few weeks? Years ago, these announcements would happen at E3. In 2017, they happen ahead of time, establishing a rhythmic thump of anticipation.

Well what "they should be" is an opinion, there isn't a perfect combat system, it's a matter of what choices you make to make it fun to play and Ubisoft shifted their choices with Unity, and shifted again a bit with Syndicate.

Well, yes, I did say "I feel". That ought to have made it clear I was expressing my opinion on the matter, not an incontrovertible truth. ;) Also, in no way did I imply that Origins' combat will be faultless if I do find it satisfyingly challenging. Combat encounter design is only but one aspect of a combat system, after all.

So no, Origins won't be the first AC game to have a more "challenging" combat system : Unity already did it, even if you believe that it wasn't enough.

I didn't say it would be. Not only did I mention in my first post on the matter that the original game has a challenging combat system, albeit with the caveat that well-timed hidden blade counters are too effective, but in the very post you've quoted, I categorically agreed that Unity's combat encounters "are more challenging" (than those in post-AC1 entries), just not as much as "they should be" in order to be fulfilling. That we don't appear to see eye to eye on that is perfectly fine with me; I'm not one to dismiss an opinion rather than merely disagree with it.

I hope the crowds return to some degree. Imo, Syndicate felt a little lifeless with the downgraded lighting, and lower crowd size. The river in Syndicate was something special though, I hope the city has a river that busy.

I think it's safe to say that the Nile will feature prominently.

I've assumed they were intentional ever since "airplane leak guy" posted once with the [Unity] leak and never came back. I thought he was an obvious Ubi plant.

krimsoncharge is still an active member of the forum. He just doesn't post regularly.

This is what AssCreed 3 should've been.

(in a world where the AssCreed franchise is a proper trilogy)

This is the last thing I want from AC, a little bit is OK but a full game of parkour in a city or set in modern day?, no, thanks. AC is not about that in my opinion.

I'm still upset over the name change from Empires to Origins

Now that it seems to about the origins of the Assassin Order, I don't mind it as much, but Empire was better. Though personally was hoping they just went with 5, just to show it's the start of something new and will be changing things up a lot more than the last few have (I know being numbered doesn't necessarily mean it would, but it's the thought that count).

I hope this game goes full in with some good old business secrets of the pharaohs.

I'm confident that there'll never be a modern-day AssCreed. It'd encroach into territory now occupied by Watch Dogs.

Unless they merge the two series, where dedsec is the Assassins's order and Ctos is a tool of the Templars.

I'm not seriously suggesting they do this, but they could get away with it if they wanted. I bet they have had that conversation too.

Haha, well, I can certainly see some sort of crossover happening in a comic or short film. Game-wise, though, I don't think Ubi will meld the two any further than including the occasional nod.

Is the first Assassins Creed game considered garbage compared to subsequent releases ? It's the only one I tried playing and fell asleep attempting doing so.

It's got the best storyline out of all of them but its gameplay was fairly repetitive, yeah. That was definitely fixed in the second game and Brotherhood. (Though everything after Brotherhood is kinda hit-and-miss.)

I mean. the Assassin Brotherhood existed waaay before this game's time period, so that's still suspect as a name. Also Unity is referred internally as V.

Do we know the exact date this will be set? Because the earliest known Assassin Order was around 400-500BC, this could very easily predate it.

Internally doesn't mean much though, publicly it has no number, Black Flag (4) was the last numbered entry.

Circa the Fifth Dynasty, apparently: one of the leaked screenshots mentions Khenut.

Edit:

I think there was a rumour that mentioned some of the missions being set at different points in time (sort of like those weird rift thingies they had in Unity, I suppose). If that's true, it could explain some of the weird inconsistencies we've come across regarding the period it's set in.

Yeah, there are two rumours that mention rifts being in the game:

Rifts include Cairo 1799 during Napoleon's Invasion (Play as Arno), Amunet Assassinating Cleopatra in Alexandria 30 BCE, and brief segments of the ”exodus" (this has a massive twist).

Interesting setting (Egypt). I hope they do some great changes in gameplay and try something interesting with the story. I'd love they just ignore abstergo and this shit ever existed, but obviously it won't happen since they made a movie about it.

But we will see... with enough changes and this setting, I may check this one.

Fingers crossed for the opposite, i want more current day "trash". #1 reason i buy all the games.

When I played AC1 and then AC2 I wanted the 3rd game to be set fully on modern days.

But they decided to turn the franchise in a big mess and milk it till the last drop; and because of it all the story they were trying to tell about the modern days went down the drain.

Nowadays I'm "okay" with they releasing more AC games, since there's tons of different times they could explore as long as they refresh the gameplay accordingly, but I'd prefer they totally ditch the modern day story as it never existed.

This is like the perfect setting for a AC game. Ancient aliens, biblical times galore.

Its nice to see rifts return. They were really good in Syndicate.

It was created by a concept artist called Evan Liu who works at Ubisoft's Chengdu studio in China. That certainly seems compelling evidence that the game exists. Except, the image was floating around long before he started working there. He began at Ubisoft Chengdu in April 2016 and the image was first posted on the R/Assassinscreed subreddit a full year before that in April 2015, it resurfaced again on R/imaginaryGames in February, 2016, too. Liu has since taken the images down from his Art Station page but they've been downloaded and shared elsewhere.

There are many possibilities for why Liu created these images. But let's go with Occam's razor: the most likely is that he's a fan of Assassin's Creed and wanted to work at Ubisoft, so he created these images for his portfolio to get his foot in the door.
This is all fan art by a current Ubisoft concept artist before they started working at Ubisoft. But given the current leaks, such as the t-shirt and box art in this thread, I wonder if the game was at least partially influenced by that

Thanks for linking that.

So there isn't much in the way of leaks. Either way, E3 needs to hurry up.

In the Xbox Conference thread this was posted but edited. I'm not sure if it's allowed to share the screens.

I've read some stuff already though, and holly shit! It seems they changed the formula completely! I'm so glad to know about that!
