$499 for a base SKU? NO BUENO. (I'm still buying TBH)

Add a controller, a game, and announce a trade in program and it'll be all gravy.

i'm fine with the price in a vacum and for the hardware you get
but the $499 reveal will cause negative reactions among the customer base and also the gaming press.

and all this negative talk about the price will overshadow anything possible good about the conference
this year E3 will be the "Scorpio $499" conference in the history books.
nothing positive about games or anything

and it would've been so easy to prevent this:
just make a fucking "starting at $399" claim and make the launch SKU $499
same they did with the Xbox One S
people like you and me will be fine with the price and everyone else will be fine, because they console could get it for $399

That's the press fault for being idiots. Even DF said 499 months ago. For 499 it's a helluva kit.

I like the minimalist design it blends in with the rest of an entertainment center.

I haven't seen that 360 model in a while, man that's great

Yeah they really have to not let the price create a massive downer on the whole thing. They need to come out there and show the box and a solid price from the get-go then show the games and more details.

Multiple SKUs would be a great way to lower the price, cut costs wherever you can to get that price as low as they can viably make it.

I thought Phil mentioned months ago about a trade in program? I'm sure that will happen at least in the MS store.

Yeah, personally for my purchasing decision the price doesn't matter a ton. If it's going to deliver on performance, 400 or 500 isn't a big deal to me.

That said, I think this is a big mistake. It's going to be a huge uphill battle to claim that Scorpio is that much better than the competition that it's worth $100-$150 more than the competition (against the market leader to boot).

Hell, half the gaming and tech journalists out there are already shitting on 499 on Twitter, the reaction is not good.

get some go again
oh damn im glad i went on neogaf today. i thought the conference would be on tuesday or something. in fact i had totally forgotten that sony's is tomorrow.

Interesting response to the rumours. It is not like this is replacing yer xbone. For most it doesn't mean anything cos they weren't buying anyway, i reckon.

But against the Pro that is a harder sell, even as it is faster and morw comprehensive.

Y'all wanted your superpowered console... Well there it is and it's priced accordingly.

Everything has pointed towards that price point. If you are shocked you only have yourself to blame.

maybe the press. but the customer base?
they have every right to be upset about it and dislike the price.
and Microsofts are the only one to blame for the MSRP and the messaging behind it.

It worked for the Surface reinvention after Surface 2 and Surface pro 2, but for a console?
This is so much harder and they have strong competition selling a similar product for a better price. It's not a new device category

I don't like this business decision at all

exactly my feeling

So 5 hours and 50 minutes till this starts?
4 hours 50 minutes

He's just fucking with us. No fucking way it will be more than 400 bucks.

Honestly, I don't see Keighley leaking this unless it was given to him my MS. They've seen the expectations and need to lower them before the press conference. I think $399 took off because it makes too much sense strategically. But that never meant it made sense financially.

It does match Spencer's earlier comments about the One S being he sales leader and Scorpio being priced as a premium console. But it also jives with my expectation that this is a soft launch of a next gen console. Once Sony launches the PS5, it will be insanely easy for MS to drop an updated Scorpio with better specs, and probably lower cost. And it will have the full XB1 and 360 BC library to go with it.

They can't beat Sony overnight. But they can definitely play the long game and force Sony to spend money.

I think if it's more than $399, they get that out of the way early and then try to sell people on it and rebuild the positive momentum. If it's $399, they wait until the end for the big cheers.

Hooked up my PC to my tv so I can watch this in 4k. I hope Mixer can handle the traffic.

As far as price goes, I'm prepped for $499 but I hope they realize how much better it'd be for their brand if it comes out at $399.

I think they mean dead world wide. In US they'll do ok, maybe in UK too. Else where though... like others have said for some that's 700 bucks.

I mean, that depends on a few things, no? The primary reason Xbox has a hard time selling anywhere right now is mindshare more than price.

Geoff's probably working with Phil and Microsoft, saying a higher price to increase excitement.

Microsoft knows how to create hype, and to use other forms of media to do it. There's 0 chance they're releasing Scorpio for $499, whether it's a premium product or not.

Someone serve me a buffet of crow because I did not think it would be above $399.

I'll own up to that shit.

$499, imo, it would be a terrible mistake.

It's not a terrible price per se, giving it's more powerful than the others this time, but it would once again make the price a factor against everything they show, instead of being a plus.

It also puts Pro in a extremely good position, Sony drops Pro to $350 and their Slim to $200 and the people will notice that the jump from Slim the Pro is the same as Pro and Scorpio. So instead of being a disappointing mid gen upgrade Pro becomes the best bang for the buck, specially since the performance delta from Ps4 base(Or Xbone) is much higher than Pro to Scorpio.

Ms needs to be aggressive, not to try to turn the tables with Ps4, but to remain relevant.

Probably right, but marking this post anyway.

I very much doubt that. Microsoft doesn't work with the media to build and create hype. If Geoff says it's $499 then he loses credibility if he's wrong.

I really expect it to be higher end of the scale ($499), so they can sell some at that price day 1 and put it on sale for the holidays.

There's still no UHD Blu-Ray drive on the Pro. And MS will be talking up how the Scorpio will do true 4K.

Does seem a bit strange for Geoff to be confident enough to tweet it with the little disclaimer of unless something changes.

I'll put my tinfoil hat on and say it's a ploy to have a mic dropping 399 moment. Or even funnier if they announce 499 and say woops looks like the teleprompter is wrong, that should be 399
