They won't cancel anything, they just won't boost it up like they normally would an E3 showstealer

That's gotta suck though, 4 years of work and Twitter Strikes Again #DeleteYourTwitter

Anything you post on Twitter is of your opinion. It represents you. It is you. You don't just put a mask on and pretend to be someone else on Twitter even if you argue you were just trolling.

Edit: Sorry, I'm not trying to attack you.

Well this turned ugly, was actually hyped during the conference by the trailer

But after seeing the tweets and etc, welp, I'll pass

One year later too, scary, milkshake duck is real
Milkshake duck-duck-duck.

Can someone summarize what's going on here? I don't have time to read through this thread.
TL;DR--The creator of the game is a GamerGater who hates women and feminism and this game's story appears to be about just how much he hates those things. Basic recap on where things are as of now:

Beyond any of his stupid personal politics, this makes the game sound dumb as fuck.

Looks like it's even worse than that.

I was the one who first posted in the GB thread about it when i saw stuff on Twitter but it was just rumblings; this just keeps escalating beyond what I expected.

The creator is telling you what the game is about

How do we separate?

Our main character in The Last Night is bisexual.

I sure hope the author isn't angling for the direction with this characterization that I think he's angling for.

Exactly.

It's like blaming a hammer because you bashed someone in the head with one.

"Wow this game is pretty!"

*the director supports gamergate and finds feminism to be overblown*

"Uh wow, maybe I can separate the art from the artist...?"

*tweets suggesting that the narrative of the game will be seen through that lens*

"FUCK"

He said whatever he said in public. That's how he chooses to represent the game and himself to the public. If there are any significant changes, it's on him to make it clear. There's no benefit of the doubt here.

No benefit of the doubt needed. The game is publicly represented on Steam as an exploration of a gamified, consumption-based society, as seen through the lens of someone who can't take part in that consumption. It doesn't make any mention of the sort of themes espoused in those old tweets.

I'm not defending the guy because clearly his opinions are the same. There's reason enough to boycott the game based on that alone. But factually, we have 3 year old info that the game is about feminism, and current info that the game is about consumption/lack of creativity in society.

Wow, been looking forward to this for years and of course the devs turn out to be scumbags and the plot / themes sound like a disaster.

Oh well. Dont think I'll be playing it but at least the art looks nice.

I can deal with a guy's shit views and know that, they'll sneak a little bit into his works.

But when his work is basically just propaganda for his shit views?

Naaaaaaaaaaah son.

Welp, I love the visual style, so I'll still pick it up eventually...
in a Humble Bundle where I can opt not to give a cent to the developer, like with Ethan Carter.

It's disappointing that such a good visual style is tied to garbage people like this, but it's pretty unforgivable that Microsoft chose to give them a spotlight at their biggest event of the year. They need to quickly and definitively distance themselves from this mess.

Pretty much. This was my most anticipated indie game after Rain World too. It's pretty depressing, especially after waiting years for a trailer of the new version and then finally getting one and it looking even better than I had hoped

It's always the biggest assholes that end up the most talented.

I've literally never seen a faster 180 on the general opinion about a game.

It flipped from 'holy shit great trailer' to 'this dude's a fucking nonce' in like 45 minutes

Sometimes the art is the artist and we all lose in the process. At least there's Tacoma to hopefully counteract this bullshit

In terms of games out now, 2064 would probably fit the bill a bit better, genre wise

Genuinely bummed this happened to you.

Go add to my previous post, I'm all about separating the art from the artist (to a point). To give one example, the Foo Fighters once played at an HIV/AIDS denial concert. Theyre assholes for doint that, but i can still enjiy his art. Lennon beat his wife and was a prick of the highest order, but I still like The Beetles.

But that's separating the creator from his work is hard to do when he puts his views that I steongly disageee with into the work itself. Then it's not just I disagree with the artist, I think his game is pretty dumb then as well.

I'm surprised MS would willingly partner with a person with such ugly views.

There is separating the artist from the work but what do you do when the ugliness is in the work? Fuck that.

This game will probably do far better because of the shit storm that's about to surround it. Not a bad business decision.
I mean, maybe if it hadn't been front and center at Microsoft's stage. I think that and the game looking pretty sweet will have a bigger impact on sales. Gamergate assholes were already sold on the game, the same as everyone else.

I've seen a couple people mention this now...what's up with the Ethan Carter devs? Do I wanna know?

So like this isn't even a situation where the creator of a great game is shitty, but this seems like a situation where the creator's politics are going to make his game fucking stupid. It's a shame too because I was really looking forward to this game since the first screenshots I saw. I feel like I'll have to play it now out of pure morbid curiosity about how terribly his views taint his game. I'll just have to find a way to do that without giving him a fucking dime.

Wait for Humble bundle.
