Lighting and to a lesser extent models looks way better than the first game, are they still using the same engine? Shooting looks way less janky too.

I just finished watching that trailer, WHY DIDN'T THEY SHOW THAT AT E3 INSTEAD the trailer here looks so so much better than the crap we got at the conference with the CG.
It's awesome that I was actually getting REmake vibes from watching this new trailer, you can clearly see the RE1 influence location design wise, given the fact that this isn't RE related at all. I also like the enemy with the saw blade that briefly appears and the masked pyrotechnic too. That gameplay trailer does make the game look better than the 1st game's trailers and couped with the fact the game's world is non linear, does sound like a Silent Hill game where there is some exploration but it's not open world per se.
Kidman and Laura coming back are the 2 biggest disappointments but as long as they don't play a big role in the story that's fine.

Think I might need to give the first another chance. Only played about an hour because the combat felt like a poor RE4 imitator. But if the first game as a whole is as surreal and intense as this looks, I probably need to play it
I think it's UE4. Tango had job listings for people experienced with Unreal a while back and idTech 5 was a bad match for the first game.

The story can be equally as poop as the first (although I'd prefer not) as long as the weird visuals and scenarios continue to surprise.

Chapter 3 and later is a weird mix of RE4, REmake, and like The Last of Us. It works more than not.

I would say they seem similar in style, yep. Except a bit more clunky in shooting, the performance of the game was very mediocre, and obviously the graphics were less good.

The combat design in TEW is so good. It doesn't reallyyyy play like RE4 either, with more emphasis on using traps and matches to create spacing than melee stuns.

It was a game with lots of variety. Some levels were strong in the survival horror part with heavey focus on resource management and stealth, others were more focused in the psychological horror angle, others were built around bosses, others were actiony.

Now let's hope it's not an unoptimized mess on PC. I originally opted out of the Xbox One X, but I'm getting sick of shitty ports. My 390X is just as powerful as the One X so it should run 4K fine. Assuming it'll have the upgrade.
