My experience with mercury steam was forgettable. But there is something special about samus movement that catches my attention.

And i never played metroid 2 so it can be a double win here for me.

Their attempts at reviving Castlevania ranged from uninspired pastiche to just pure shit for my money. I honestly think it's bizarre that they're doing Metroid after already shitting up one classic franchise. Has there been an interview or any info on why they were picked for the task? I'm actually curious.

The original Lord's of Shadow is a legitimately great game.

Mirror of Fate was pretty good for an early experimental 3DS game, too.

LoS2 had potential and shining moments but was clearly bogged down by development issues. I still have faith that they can make good games

I love seeing the first Metroid evolution scene updated.

I have no problem with a map screen. But I would also like the option to turn it off, so the game can be played more like the original GameBoy game. I like the idea of going through the game blind with no visual aide to cheat off of.
Worst comes to worst, you can tape a piece of paper over the second screen.

Just to say it again for a new page, its not like MercurySteam is being let loose on this. Sakamoto is directing, two classic Nintendo composers are doing the music, and Nintendo is supervising.

I mean, there is every chance that this game isn't great, but a few people were saying that Sakamoto was praising them in terms of how well their working relationship has been. So, if its not your thing, cool, but let's all chill and realize that we're getting a new Metroid game in September (with a map that can hopefully be turned off if you don't want it), and then Metroid Prime 4.

Everyone gets a Metroid game (whether you have a Switch and/or 3DS), and that's just fun for everyone!

I'll certainly be getting some mileage out of mine before then with Ever Oasis, the new Fire Emblem, and Culdcept Revolt. Its pretty cool that they're definitely transitioning to Switch, but that the 3DS isn't being unceremoniously dumped like the Wii U was.

There was an article (if i find it i'll link it) about how the art director lost his god damn mind and fucked up the game.

Yeah, that's what I had in mind when I mentioned development issues.

Also, I'm glad this looks to be a stylized remake. AM2R already exists as a Super Metroid/Zero Mission style remake, so this will seem fresh even though it's the same game, or the same premise/world, to be more accurate. Of course, having the official Nintendo seal is nice, too (not to detract from AM2R's dev team, which did a fantastic job).

The damage seems pretty high in the Arachnus battle. I wonder if they'll tone it down or if the game just hands out energy tanks like candy so people have enough to tank through stuff. They are pretty generous with health drops though.

Why the hell would they not put this in the direct? I don't understand Nintendo.

Still wary of things like teleporters and cutscenes breaking the flow along with the biggest red flag of Mercury Steam developing it but overall it's looking good. I'd like to see the control layout, like how does the melee counter and free aim work, can you do those while moving?

I liked LoS (didn't think it was "great"), but Mirrors showed they had no business being in 2D. You can't just shove 3D action game logic into a 2D game and expect something good. However, it remains to be seen what will happen with this. Pretty funny they are making a Metroid 2 remake after all the hubbub of last year.

Glad to see the game has finally been revealed.

Have known about it for a very long time. Glad the guys in Mercury convinced Nintendo to keep developing the game.

The game was in dev hell for quite a time. Some things just didn't work.

True. Honestly, I do not own a Nintendo 3DS, but I love Metroid 2 and even it's AM2R fan remake (which is worth tracking down). I would consider buying a used 3DS or a cheap ass 2DS for this one.

More Metroid is great, but ugh, Mercury Steam... I didn't like any of their Castlevania games as I believe their level design is terrible. Based on the trailer I don't really know what to expect.

The teleport stations are there to encourage backtracking without alienating new players. I would prefer specific shortcuts between areas, but the teleporters are more accessible and easier to implement, so I can't really fault Mercury Steam/Sakamoto for that.

I keep asking for help but no does.

I've already posted this once for you.

I don't think you should worry about this much. By the sounds of it, Nintendo's going overseeing all of the game design and map changes map. Mercury Steam will be doing all the heavy lifting. Nintendo has done plenty of collaborations like this in the past, A link Between Worlds and Luigi's Mansion 2 come to mind. Both of those turned out fine.

For all the complaints about the graphics, I think they nailed the environmental art style. The room where you get the Varia Suit looks like something out of Prime (Though obviously a lot lower poly).

A Link Between Worlds was in-house. But Nintendo is at least producing and doing the music here.

Is there footage from the Treehouse segment?

I think it's too little too late for this, I can already play a great fan remake with proper 2d graphics.

I just can't find any enthusiasm when it's not gonna even look like a proper 2d sprite based Metroid game.

Special Edition up at GS. Go go go!

This is why fan remakes get cease and desist orders. Just sayin for those that get upset when it happens.

The Direct was solely focused on the Switch.

You're right, I just came away from the direct being annoyed all we got is a nothing teaser. I only heard about this game because of this thread a few hours later. It doesn't really matter of course.

I understand why they're doing it but what matters if the game is designed around those teleporters or if they're an alternative. Basically I want it to be like the optional Chozo statue hints in Zero Mission instead travelling between planets in Metroid Prime 3 ruining the cohesive feel of the world.

Seeing the intentional bomb jump sequence break warms my heart.

I thought of Zero Mission right there when I saw it. And as with ZM, I wouldn't mind some developer-intended alternate paths and shortcuts, that's for sure, even if it's not quite the same thing as a break. Nothing would kill this game faster than locked-down linearity full of artificial blocks on the player, something where Fusion already went a little too far for my liking.
