sorry if this has been announced or discussed yet but have Nintendo put anything out on this? One of few things holding me back on the switch currently.

Nope.

However very confident it is coming at some point (maybe 2018) based on Reggie's comments on Gamecube VC earlier in the year.

Maybe Nintendo wants the story to be Mario Odyssey and nothing but.

If so, why not have a direct last week about Virtual Console?

I'm starting to get worried guys.

The time for worrying was three months ago when it launched without a word on VC. Now's the time to be upset.

They said there are more announcements coming in Treehouse I think. Probably a very slim chance it will be announced this E3 though.

Hopefully it's out by the end of the year. Bizarre when Wii and Wii U launched with VC. Did 3DS launch with VC? I remember getting the ambassador games when the price dropped which wasn't far after launch.

Incredibly disappointing we still don't have VC. Simply no excuse not to. One of the main reasons I bought a Switch was for playing Nintendo classic on the go with a decent screen. Looks like it won't be happening until well into next year. Unbelievable.

I don't expect VC news around now considering they already announced the Online service being delayed. I can see them building up the catalogue first so it doesnt drip feed to christ like last time. Maybe later on this year in a direct.

I hope at some point it gets 3DS content in 2D. Since they release games without stereoscopic 3D (and 3DSes without it) it shouldn't post much of a barrier.

Yes, I'm ready to buy Metroid 2 Remake twice.

Its a shame there is no V.C but i truly believe that they intend to release it with their online service and as that was delayed so was the V.C

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Two more days of Treehouse to come. Nintendo's e3 isn't over yet.

I get the feeling they won't do a traditional VC this time. It will be part of their online service and the games they put on will have added (online?) functionality. So that means it's likely 2018

If there was going to be Switch VC at E3 it would have been on the spotlight. We're talking about a presentation with a vague statement about a future pokemon game and nothing but a logo for Metroid Prime.

Pretty disappointing how long it is taking.

And don't forget, there's going to be an agonizing dripfeed of games after it finally launches.

Wii U and 3DS did not launch with VC support.

Maybe the delay and silence is because it will launch with a good library of games and have consistent launches with a nice healthy library.

lol

Wii U had a soft launch of the VC with 1 game a month 2 months after launch, and a full roll out of the VC about 6 months after launch.

3DS VC took about 3 months to come out.

if this would be the only option for VC, this would be the dumbest move ever, i hope not

Am I crazy to hope that, success of the Switch depending as well as Nintendo's ability to capitalize on that momentum, down the line we'll be able to play 3DS (2DS mode) games on Switch?

How cool wouldn't that be?

Yet those two vague announcements had probably the two biggest reactions from all E3.

What about the bottom screen and touch screen controls?

No, it would require the dual screen functionality that Switch sadly doesn't have. Same for DS and Wii U. Wii VC I'm kinda unsure of. If Switch could handle GameCube emulation (which I believe DF said it could), then it could probably handle Wii emulation. Main problem would obviously be the controls. The Joycons have Gyro controls, but from what I understand, the technology works differently and games might not be able to work without significant tinkering, if at all. Anyway, the consoles I'd say we can reasonably expect to be supported on Switch VC are NES, SNES, N64, GC, GB, GBC, and GBA. Anything else is unlikely, IMO (although ports/remasters are always an option).

Also, to OP's question, nothing has been said by Nintendo about VC at E3. It's been implied by Nintendo earlier in the year that's it's probably coming to Switch, and it may launch with Nintendo's Online service next year, as it offers free NES games as part of the subscription. That's really all we know, unfortunately.

At this point I am desperate so even if it's late and drippy again I will just be happy if it happens at all. But I am really not into a Netflix service. Let me download the games and keep them and play them offline.

I was thinking if they don't mention virtual console at E3 at all, we won't hear anything about it until the paid subscription service is about to kick in. I was very disappointed that we didn't hear anything about it.

Remember: The Virtual Console on the Wii U didn't launch until it was on the market for six months.

We're barely over three months with the Switch.

With all the crossplay stuff i was thinking, what if the new Nintendo VC it's actually a netflix-like service that's gonna be on the Switch, but also on XBOX, PC and Mobile. It makes sense for it to be introduced when the monthly fee starts rolling. It could be great to keep increasing the mindshare that Nintendo has recovered in the last couple years.

VC is the one thing noticeably absent on the Switch for me right now. I have spent hundreds and hundreds on these games that would greatly benefit from taking them with me.

Sucks.

"Do we have anything to report on the virtual console front?"

"....of course not"

"Quick, just put up a logo for Metroid and tell them we're developing a real pokémon game for the switch, that'll distract them!"

Not surprised. Waiting on splatoon 2 but since picking up the switch it has been a dust collector but it's still early.
