Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

What can they do to fix the fact that too many people are trying to get in at once?

Also, eventually (probably on Monday or Tuesday, SE will change the game programming for that spot and fix it. It'd just be nice if they shut it down right now and took care of it on an emergency fix.

There is absolutely 0 chance imo that the FFXIV team will not change how those quest blocks work. Right now almost no one is getting through and at this rate it will take weeks, if not months for the thousands of players to get past that point. There's no way they can have the game broken for weeks or months. They'll change it. I'm guessing during the normal maintenance on Sunday night. Just would be nice if they put emergency priority on it.

I kinda feel the trial issue is being addressed but not the Rauban one because the trial issue is affecting Japanese players the Rauban/Pipin blockage seems to only be a NA thing.

Edit: oh my god the level 69 solo quest takes place at a building called
The Saltery, which is indeed a place with barrels of salt.
. They could not have known how appropriate that name would be.

The trial issue is a bug. In a specific repeatable set of circumstances, you add trial + emote + cutscene and the code pukes. That they can patch once, verify trial +emote+cutscene no longer = puke, and call it good.

The congestion problem is much larger, and to some extent would require a whole new feature. There are at least two solo instances doing this; the low throughput is a giant concern--there are like 1100 people in The Fringe on Levi. I've never seen any other SB zone come anywhere close to 200--100 is the highest I've seen, and even that is fairly uncommon (there are 10 people in the last zone of the expansion on Levi right now. 10.) That's not a good sign for how many people are getting through the two throttling instances, and the problem is skipping all those people forward puts 1k+ people up against another story instance in the near future. they can't just patch out the plot; they need a better fix or a bigger pipeline to get people through..

It sucks, it shouldn't have been allowed to happen... but it's not going to be a quick fix unless they're a lot further on than they're saying.

Does it make me a bad person to feel like laughing a little bit at the expense of all the people that bought jump potions to dive right into Stormblood content?

Cuz I can't help but giggle a little.

Rauban/Pipin was a problem on Japanese servers as well. Looked exactly like all those screenshots posted for the first... 18 hours maybe? After that it magically solved itself. Switch from everyone ignoring the line and spamming the NPC for no one being around. I have no idea what happened, I wasn't there, but we're talking peak time on a weekend here.

Maybe everyone gave up and freed up the servers? In NA it's American culture to instead spam the NPC/server 30 times per minute x 100-200+ people 24 hours straight. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the nonstop spamming that's keeping it broke. I mean it's almost like a DDoS on the NPC.

I feel they're gonna fix it on Sunday/Monday because Tuesday is going to add even more players and it's just going to get worse.

They addressed the Susano bug in a 10 minute long one zone emergency maintenance, btw.

No way everyone gave up. If they did it wouldn't have cleared up and they wouldn't be the first to highlight the Susano bug yesterday.

What I think is more likely is that they opened up the instance like they did for everyone else, but unlike the US servers, there wasn't enough load on the JP server to completely tank them into 90002-land. So everyone got through, and carried on.

Man, it kinda sucks that I only see like 5 people in the Ruby Sea right now. Part of the joy of a new expansion is seeing everyone run around. Are most people really still suck behind those quest?

Still stuck on cold steel myself. There's been a crowd of 100+ people crowded around Raubahn all day and night; I don't know when I'll be able to get through. I've been through a lot of crappy MMO launches before, but this is one of the weirdest bottlenecks I've ever seen. Absolutely bizarre how little response/communication there's been from Square. "Try again later" is not going to cut it.

I'm on Excalibur NA.

People are really still stuck. It's that bad.

I got to last of the MSQ zones earlier and was greeted with the options of picking from 3 instances with 8 total people in them. To compare, the last time I zoned in Fringe a few hours prior, it was still at ~1100.

The best part is 10 total people in the zone and it still tries to load balance instead of zoning parties into the same shard together.

I swear the back-end was some college students senior project.

Edit: No, wait. I was trying to get in 1 and teleport kept sending me to 3. Walk in, and the Population is, in order, 3,1,6

game what are you even doing how do you math

This whole Raubahn thing makes me wish MSQ was optional, not something people absolutely have to do to get to end game. People who like story will still do it, and those who just want to hit level cap and start doing dungeons can do so without being gated by these stories.

Curious to know but what are people's thoughts on FFXIV for the casual player? I don't have much time in a given day but I've been getting some major FFXI nostalgia recently and seeing Samurai and Redmage in an MMO definitely made the urge to jump in to this game.

Also, are there RP servers akin to Wow and if so, what is the best type of server to join in terms of non-hostile communities?

Edit: lol at irony of me asking this when most people can't get onto the game. Yup, this is certainly bringing back playonline memories.

I've been taking it pretty casually, I think it's fine. I'm not apart of any Free Companies/guilds and mostly play with PUGs. I play a tank so it's quite easy to get into groups.

I don't have much time to play in the day either, unless it's the weekend, otherwise I usually play a few hours in the evening. It's cool.

Yanxia spoilers:

Round two with Zenos. Another loss. Obviously I knew I couldn't beat him now, but I've been getting served by this guy a few too many times for my liking.

Looking forward to getting a one on one where I can finally wipe that smug smile off his face. I'm the goddamn Warrior of Light!

Lots to do as a casual. Thankfully, the game isn't a race to level cap and straight to raiding. Some people do that, but there is plenty to do for those who want to take a relaxed approach to the game (crafting, alts, pvp, Golden Saucer, etc).

Balmung is the unofficial RP server and it is very high pop, so you'll likely have trouble creating a character there as SE usually has that turned off. You'd either have to make a character on a different server and pay to transfer it to Balmung, or try checking in the dead of night in case SE temporarily re-opens character creation there for a time.

The new areas (2 for now) are absolutely amazing, with lovely music. Remind me FF11 feelings. Also the new sky colors, woah.
(and new thunderstorm effects are much better)

Still can't clear Raubahn Ex. We wipe on pull. Ridiculous. Will never make progression to Pipin (Savage).

On a more serious note this is a pretty bad Early Access launch.

Most efficient use of time so far has been running PvP over and over since EXP ratio is best there.

Around 180k(maybe more?) for a level 50 class and 600k for a level 60 class.

Did anyone do the quest "By Our Powers Combined" in Yanxia and can explain me how it works? I think I'm missing something here.

Edit: Nvm, figured it out. There was just no real indicator. On to the next quest o/

You actually can't transfer to Balmung or Gilgamesh right now at all, even if you pay. In an attempt to get ahead of some of the current queue issues they blocked them off completely and said they'll open them again when the population stabilzes, so likely never. Probably better off for it honestly as waiting in an hour queue to log in after a 90k doesn't sound like fun.

Red Jacket and darker pants if you can manage it. Darker hair.

Become Rean Coldsteel from Legend of Coldsteel. :^) If you think SAM is a pure dps monster now, wait until 62.

Yeah, I'm on Balmung, Raubahn EX is still on lockdown. During prime time, all the job instances were down as well, and entering into them would get you the 90k lockout error :/

And of course, people DCing within instances and just wandering through zones as well.

I've pretty much given up on trying to get through the MSQ for now. Honestly if, Balmung weren't locked down, I'd probably have ponied up for a transfer to get past these two, and then go back.
