Honestly I started with 4 after a few rounds in the versus mode. I didn't find it to be that difficult though. I mean I did lose a few times to certain characters but it felt like it made me better at this game. Plus the tense matches I had at that difficulty actually made me appreciate this game more!
Yeah, well to each their own but I think it's just safer to say start from level one. Not all people like to be challenged right away, not in game looking like this, they won't expect it :)

Having to play button gymnastics with your fingers on some characters due to the button mapping is gonna give me arthritis.

How the fuck does anybody use Helix with a pro controller. Thankfully i like using B&B but still.

This game is so fucking amazing! I haven't felt this excited about a fighting game since Street Fighter IV.
ARMS just feels fresh all around. One thing I really love about it is that it's so easy to explain how to play it to my friends but it's really hard to get good at it.
Hundreds of hours of gameplay incoming lol
It's truly a great game. I don't even care that single player is light - love the pure arcade experience.
My only complaints are around explanation. Nothing is explained, which is frustrating.

I'm sure this has been asked before but what's the best way to grind for arms?

so far I've just been running through grand prix at level 2 and I usually end with 30-50 coins
The best way is just to play the game to build a strong base. The slow pace at which arms are unlocked reinforces the idea of experimenting sufficiently with what you unlock. Don't understand why people are so ancious, the extra damage doesn't seem high enough to make a difference.

I think I am getting better at the game.

However, I do feel a bit powerless against guys that use two hammers.

Hammer seems to be a heavy weapon, so you can't really stop it. It curves pretty well (so you can't simply avoid to the right or left), and when it gets close to you, its strike is rather large so you can't jump over it, or avoid it easily.

I faced someone that would simple strike continuously with each arm, one after another with a correct rhythm, making it pretty much impossible to handle.

Any advice ?

What is happening in this Anti-Counter Practice?

How is she dodging and punching so often? How is she using a punch so quickly after a grab? How is she aiming her punches at your head when standing on the ground? How is she curving her punches so much? Why is nothing explained?

You dont like the shitty "git gud" training ARMS provides???

Don't jump. It's better to dash sideways. It has a bit of a lag so you can escape it.

Cleared Grand Prix 1-3, feel like I'm getting the hang of the movement of the game a lot more, but it still feels weird to me. It's not like anything I've ever really played before.

Jump to the side then mid air dodge further to that side and throw a quick counter with your outside arm while curving it inwards.

all the high ranked streamers I've watched make it seem like someone using the control sticks won't stand a chance online since you can't aim your arms in separate directions.
You actually can, just not both at exactly the same time.

I've been playing motion only up until this morning, and I'm not sure if I'll go back now that I've gotten the hang of the normal controls. More testing is needed.

Is Twintelle invincible when she floats in the air with a golden glow?
I believe it charges her arms and slows down incoming punches. It kind of acts as a second air dodge and can be held for a really long time, almost as if she's hovering.

It's really useful because incoming punches that are head on basically get stopped cold for a brief second allowing a counter punch to break attempted grabs, for example. If the incoming punches go around her they get slowed but don't stop in the same way I just detailed.

I main her right now and I find this ability to be a bit OP, to be honest.

I'm starting to develop a problem with Twintelle. I love her specials so much that I don't like to play with anyone else anymore. It's just so much fun to float on air and do dodge and attack.

Her umbrellas also destroy people who try to use Ninjara or Min Min with those super curvy Frisbee/boomerang arms.

One more pic of the ARMS controllers connected to Switch

My first time playing with traditional controls, holy shit it's so much better. Movement is reliable, punching is precise, sprint and jump are more accessible, grabbing is easier... no wonder I kept losing

Yeah after switching to button controls I'm convinced this is the way to play. Sucks not to be able to do wide grabs but I can do without.

I'm pretty good online (at least in Party mode) but terrible single player. Pretty annoying since I can get that +3 streak consistently

The best way to play twintelle is to stay your ground and use starsttuck, I have fustrated so many ribbon girls because I wasnt a jumping predictable twintelle. I have also learned to play more defensive with her rather than offensively.

Just adding that motion is totally viable and used succesfully by a lot of people so newcomers don't feel they need to use a Pro Controller.

In the uppers levels of play against rank 10 and 11, I can't play Helix like I normally can, somehow they're able to punish Helix after I punch first when before that was never likely since I would dodge and counter their counter. In general I've noticed that while Helix is evasive as all hell, he can still definitely be punished, it just seems it's much harder to do so. I need more feedback from those who've played against (my) Helix. Someone stated my recent poor performance might be mental fatigue but I fear there might be a flaw in either my play style or my arms and if there is I'm trying to figure out how to adjust and therefore will listen to feedback

Sorry your ez gdlk was short lived.

Not exactly short lived, I'm still winning, rather frequently, I suppose I'm just not used to the competition. I guess I'm just trying to come to the conclusion if my losses were just based purely on skill or because of the fault of my playstyle specifically or my arms being objectively worst against a specific person or loadout

I ask this because I do want to improve, and not just rely on one set up (like the poppers and some other combinations) when it comes to such things. The only reason I'm so adamant about the poppers is because how well they compliment Helix and the strange effect they have on him, hence why it's my go to option. But if there's something better or something to improve on then I'd like to know

I swear the AI in this game is the most unfun thing to play against.

It's true. Instant dodges, instant shields. The timing is 100% on fucking point every time.

Which if I was playing level 10 sure, go nuts, but on level 4? get the fuck out of here

.
I've not even used motion controls, I'm terrified to even try. I can't imagine playing a game like this with motion controls

takes a bit getting used to but its awesome. I've even managed to beat some of the GAF psychos.

Ugh stuck on the final final boss on Level 4. So close to ranked.

It actually really reminds me of the first Smash Bros. I was really young when I played it so getting to master hand was impossibly tough.

I've come to the realization that I will probably never unlock ranked.

I despise playing against AI in fighting games. Especially this one.

I have 13 000 matches in Smash 4, 56 of them are offline vs cpu and that is only when I waited for servers to function or when I've been timed out for quitting prematurely iirc...

Save up and get some different arms, and try different things. Makes a huge difference.

Find the character you do best with, then find the arms that you do best with.

Ok, besides my revelations that the stadium of Ribbon girl is filled with sticklights, and you can punch the gong in Min Min's Ramen bowl...

I now got double KO!

I finished off my opponent on no life, and then the bomb exploded next to me causing me to KO too...

How are you supposed to build up your Rush meter to cheese rank 7 Hedlok, exactly? I can't punch away his attacks since he has 6 arms, and if I block I get one or both of my arms disabled and get punished hard.

Just take a break. Every time I do, I come back a little better.

Same. Just had a ninjara try to timer scam me on Cobra park by just circling me on their board while blocking.

The missile weapons seem pretty great now that I'm giving them some time. Extremely maneuverable, heavy, and AoE blast when a charge connects. Rushes are tricky but powerful. Lays waste to AI, too.

Double missiles on Twintelle makes the aerial mix-up game feel even more threatening. Probably not optimal but hilarious.

Man I regret bothering with the small timer target practice. I would generally only get 1 or 2 arms from it most of the time. Just tried medium timer and got like 8 arms from it. :|

Speaking of which, someone was complaining earlier that you need to use motion controls to be good at that mode. This morning I did medium timer and hit every single target, clock, and ARM with normal controls.
