Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

I don't expect we'll see Dragon Ball characters. It feels like they'd go with Tien and Android 16 over Tao Pai Pai.

It seems like it's a goal of theirs to capture over-the-top Dragon Ball Z action, and I don't think Dragon Ball characters could keep up.

As for out of left field characters picks I wouldn't be surprised by a Kid Pilaf-Mai-Shu character in a mech suit.

Okay, so I just finished the first tournament in Super. What are the odds that Hit will be included in the launch roster? Does he show up more over the next 60 episodes or is he a minor character?

I need my team to be Majin Vegeta (give me this skin please), Hit and Krillin*

*I will take Mr. Popo, Mr. Satan or Dende as a substitute for Krillin.
Hit does show up again in future episodes.

God I hope not. Super is so bad. It took 95 episodes to the first ssj in z, but 92 episodes into super an there a three new ones.

Wait what does that have do with anything regarding Dragon Ball Super. Also Cabbage went SSJ in episode 37. But yeah I would take Broly over Kale, for the fact that Broly at this point has some moves while Kale just transformed, but a kale costume for Broly would be nice.

Dragon Ball Super really lacks a villain and it's a sad thing to see for me. Dragon Ball as a franchise has always had great villains accompanied by great designs; Frieza, Cell, Buu (I hope Buu's more menacing forms show-up or are transformations in the game) are hallmarks of great enemy design, with other shonen series drawing inspiration from them. Even the movies, you're flanked with Broly, Janemba, Cooler and even Garlic Jr.

I hope some antagonist worthy of the aforementioned villains shows up and poses a true threat to Goku and co. and has a great design to boot. Hit, Cabba and likely Jiren have all become allies to Goku so I'd like to see them get back to creating something menacing, distinct and novel in design that deviates from prior enemy designs. I don't think we'll get that in the next DBS arc speculatively with the mortal more powerful than Beerus but hopefully after.

For that amount of effort they might as well put her in the game

Kale and Cauli are stupid choices right now. Leave them for maybe DLC later, and if Broly is already going to be in I'd rather just see Cauli.

Don't Sorry, aside from Broly they're not even in consideration.

Lol, why not? Jameba would make an extremely cool/showpiece character and his abilities are suited for the game and the same goes for cooler. Ah well, whatever. Maybe DLC down the line.

I'm hoping for Janemba and his stage.

and of course Gogeta

Ok, if we're going to have movie characters then I want Janemba too. Can you imagine his dash and rush animation being him turning into cubes quickly and reassembling himself even faster?
Gogeta can make it in only if Vegito is in too, if not then give Vegito some priority, he's canon and has interesting techniques.

Tenshinhan is a Dragon Ball character....

Wow. This looks incredible. I might just finally decide to take up a fighting game, because of this. The presentation is off the charts.

Until kale distinguishes herself from broly I don't see a point in adding her to the roster.

She is literally a copy and paste rn

And cabba is a great value vegeta/tarble mix.

I think a lot of the Super characters have to prove themselves. Most of them so far are just poor, especially design-wise.

But the roster may have already been decided & designed a while ago.

This.

When even Dragonball Heroes takes some time to roll out content relating to the newest characters from Super, and that's a game that's updated frequently using assets that are much easier for Dimps to implement? It's much more likely to assume that the latest Super characters are going to take some time for Arc to work in, themselves.

Any Dragon Ball character can keep up on a whim of the creator... Also, it is a video game, power levels are irrelevant (hell, they were pretty irrelevant on the show as well).

I think Kale will get in over Broly because:

A. Kale is canon and Broly is not (for however much that means in this day and age where the manga and anime occupy different timelines),
B. They are literally completely identical except for what's between their legs, and
C. It's easy marketing for Super, which they want to be selling as much as they possibly can.

There's no compelling reason to include Broly over her aside from nostalgia appeal, which isn't a very good reason on its own. Kale hits a lot of buttons that Broly doesn't. It just makes more sense.

You realize they started development long before Kale even existed.

So what you're saying is that somehow Broly wasn't planned at all ? Because if he was they already started working on him.

They're not gonna ditch all their assets suddenly because a female version showed up 2 years later.

Not power levels, but in terms of what they would be capable of move-wise. They just aren't as 'explosive'.

A few things.

Kale was likely revealed after ArcSys had already defined their core roster.
Broly has established popularity - that's why he appears in Dragon Ball Z games. Replacing him with a Broly parody doesn't seem worth the risk of people not being as interested in the character.

People in the west aren't going to know who Kale is. They will know who Broly is.

Also

Kale literally exists because broly. Broly can't exist in the show, especially because he's all types of dead. So they just made a broly, so in a situation where folks can just have broly... they want broly.

Waz kalifa, while an iteration of the saiyan concept is a unique thing, so is cabba. Kale literally only exists to be a surrogete for a popular character that cannot exist in the show.I was going to make a vemon comparison, but its not the same, because flash tomson, eddy brock and scorpion weren't trying to emulate eachother and are very different venoms. Kale is is " member broly" and this game, you can just have broly.

I'll give you one simple reason why this won't happen:

They actually want to sell this game

Toei do not care about this. Broly's been thrown into a lot media, as his popularity is more important this his status of unofficial continuity

is this thread for gameplay discussion? sorry if its not.

maybe its just cuz its day -900 but homing dash looks hella dumb atm. the idea of immediately closing space with a safe move that can lead to good damage on hit and pressure on block makes me worry that zoning will be tough to implement and neutral will be a blow up.

even pushblocking it doesnt really stop them because by the time both of you recover it doesnt seem like the defender is greatly +. what i seen in that situation is both players press homing dash and clash midair.

maybe an AA assist ala gohan could punish it on reaction, but assists take quite a while to recover so that wouldnt be a consistent tactic i dont think, at least at the moment.

any of you guys know anything about arcana heart? how does that homing dash work? how does it change the neutral or zoning game?

i dno much about DBZ as a series or the arena games but it seems like a lot of DBZ chars got similar-ish tools so that also got me kinda worried about how much character variety there is gonna be FG archetype wise. not significantly worried tho cuz arcsys knows what they are doing.

My hope is that homing has a bigger hitbox than hurtbox so that you can interrupt it with a normal to discourage reckless usage in neutral.

I hope everyone on the Universe 7 team is playable. That means Roshi, Tien and Android 17 as well. I feel like everyone else is a lock. What's cool about this team is that all major sagas of Dragon Ball are represented, even the early days. Other safe bets include Future Trunks, Kid Buu and Beerus.

From there I would personally prioritize Super over the movies. Characters like Hit, Goku Black and Zamasu would be great to see.
