Pokémon Go |OT 3| "No Officer, I'm a Passenger"

Now that I've had a day to digest all this, there's one glaring problem that I can't wrap my head around and that's the coin payout structure.

What we know: defenders accumulate coins based on how long they are in a gym and you receive these coins when they are kicked out. The max is still 100 coins per day.

So there's 2 issues there. Inevitably, you'll have a situation where you'll get multiple defenders returned in a day. Their total coin value may be 150, but you're only going to get 100, wasting that other 50.

My second and larger issue is that ultimately, you want your defender to be kicked off, because that's how you cash out. Isn't that counter productive to the whole idea of defending? The goal should be to keep them there as long as possible, not "long enough" and then pray they're kicked out. This setup is going to encourage multi-accounting even more than before.
Raid rewards may be tied to gym strength and number of participants.

Niantic wants to discourage people from collecting their coins every day without doing anything on their part. It may reward multi-accounting, but I think they're hedging their bets on players giving up because of the multi-layered systems in place. They can't exactly prevent people from using multiple accounts. At the very least, spoofers in remote gyms have to beat their own gyms to be able to collect coins.

What does this mean for the new meta?

Additionally, a number of high Tier Defenders such as Dragonite, Rhydon and Gyarados will drop a number of spots on ranking charts, due to their double weaknesses.

This is gonna be fun.

I don't see how this is much different. I have already been ripping apart Dragonites with ice types, and insta-killing Gyrados with Jolteon.

If anything the Solstice event has de-valued Dragonite because double-ice types were a pretty rare find.......I suspect after today many people will have double ice Cloysters.

There's really nothing rising to take the place of the Gyrados/Dragonite/Rhydon trio in the meta though. People will continue to use them because they have reasonably high HP/CP.

I haven't checked around town to see if we've gotten any more gyms.
Here's hoping though!

Given enough time I can pretty much solo a gym so I'm looking forward to get badges of my town's gyms.

Well, just means they will go down much faster. Plus, using a 3000 CP Pokemon to hold a gym will likely be dumb if the motivation really does go down much faster then a 2000 cp.

I'm looking forward to perhaps using my Lapras, Arcanine & Egexcutor again! My Dragonites & Tyranitars will become good pokemon to battle and raid.

Can someone please help me..
I'm facing a problem with my Pokemon Go Plus device..
Whenever I catch Pokemon using it, it disconnects right after.
This ALWAYS happens after every single Pokemon encounter the past 2 days.

This never happened before.
I tried restarting the phone, restarting the App, but nothing changed!
The low battery indicator isn't showing & it seems it's functioning normally when I use it only to collect from PokeStops.
The issue only occurs while catching Pokemon.

Is my device dead?
Should I buy a new one or is there any fix for it : ( ?

Man, if the only way to get coins from gyms is to get pokemon back, small town players are fucking hosed. And hard to find gyms are completely pointless.

Given the new surge of gyms, might be a little easier for players.

Have you tried manually changing the battery of the Go Plus? Cause what you describe is exactly what happened to mine back when I was in Universal Studios last year. It work for Pokestops, but any Pokemon attempt would fail and disconnect it. After I changed the battery, it worked again. The battery was near dead. So change the battery, even if it doesn't warn you.

That's a sign of battery being low from my experiences. Pop in a new one and see if it still does that.

Not if you like collecting badges, but I get what you're saying.

Our local walking park just got another gym added to it, and the only other gym that was there would switch hands 2-3 times a night (mostly due to spoofers but still).

Did you try restarting the Pokémon Go Plus?
Hold the button down until it blinks blue, then hold it down again until it vibrates.

Whoa. Two Pokestops near me just turned into gyms!

yeah they are definitely adding more gyms...I'm so glad, because I literally just moved and the area I moved to has a crap ton of pokestops nearby.

update could not have come at a better time!

Hm good question. Yesterday all my 4 Pokemon were still away but all gyms were gone but no new ones. Tonight I checked and only 2 of my Pokemon were away (lol) but I'm not sure if new gyms were around. This morning all my Pokemon returned and new gyms were in my area.

I really hope there's still hope for me but I doubt it. I won't know until go on a run later though.

I can't get that hyped for all of this new stuff sadly since I know I've probably gotten extremely unlucky with this here :/

jelous.

My area looks like that too. It's definitely not "rural", but the closest Pokestop is out of the range of the map when I'm at my house. I have to run blocks to get to it.

Which actually reminds me, there is one Pokestop that is on my map, (at the very end going the other direction) it's just in an inconvenient location so I've never been to it before this whole time.

Last few hours of the fire and ice event, right?

I'm not going to try too hard. I'm over 300 Cyndaquil candy. Got enough candy to evolve Houndour.

One less worry to worry about.

"You can give Berries to any Pokémon on Gyms controlled by your team at any time. There are some significant diminishing returns if you feed the same Pokémon multiple Berries over a short period of time."
https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/6i7zwm/whats_changing_in_pokémon_go/dj4qh66/

This means that feeding the same pokemon in a row/etc right away won't help much. So this helps against any kind of camper just sitting at gym and feeding berries all day long.

the gyms degrade over time. if you don't feed them you can let them degrade until they come back.

Do we know when the gym stuff and raids go live?

It's too hot to do shit outside this week in town so I'm glad it's not up yet tbh.

within a "few days"

Bunch of new videos. You can see in the 1st 1 a Charizard being defeated and it's CP goes down by 325 in 1 knock out. From 1523 to 1198. The Motivation goes down a decent amount too.

God i can't wait for this to go live :DDD

I've been very happy with this event - mainly as I've finally evolved a Cyndaquil all the way, and right at the last minute I actually got a top-tier one, which was really bugging me that I hadn't. Went from about 10 candies to the 150 I wanted over the course of the event, with more to spare to power up. Lovely.

This puts me at... I think 4 away from finishing the Pokedex? Not counting region exclusives/fucking Unown. About 9 candies away from evolving Sunkern, two Totodile evolutions to go (think I've planned a nest trip for this weekend) aaaand I'm still 60 candies off an Ampharos. Think that'll be my gen2 Dragonite, that took about an age to walk the majority of the candies for it. 175km covered on that alone!

And as I've been pretty much doing a living Dex as I go, only a couple more for that. So the gym update is perfectly timed for me, I might actually enjoy doing them this time round!

I think I might be done, gym turnover is going to be instant, the change to the weakness multiplier is all that was really needed to increase gym turnover.

You'd rather have stagnant gyms that stayed the same for weeks & months?

This is something that has been needed / wanting for a long long time now.

No but the change is too extreme, changing the weakness multiplier so that pokemon with double weaknesses can actually be punished adequately is enough to increase gym changover.

Anyone in the UK seen any new gyms yet? I've seen absolutely zero changes so far.

In Switzerland and I've seen one new gym added to my favourite spot which already had 4 pretty close to each other.

I don't mind the gym change in theory, there are a couple of places nearby that get filled with 10x >3000 Blisseys and I'm not convinced they're legit so maybe dynamism is what is needed.

That wouldn't have really helped much against a Gym with 4 Snorlaxes and 2 Blisseys.

Well if they kept the one type limit, lesser fighting pokemon like Poliwrath would even be able to wreck havoc on Blissey, Snorlax, and Tyranitar with an increased weakness multiplier.
