Bachelor production shut down after crew films sexual assault

So she's basically passed out on the fucking floor and he puts his dick in her mouth.

And this was filmed. And multiple people didn't stop it.

What. the. fuck.

I don't think it said anywhere that he crammed his dong in her mouth. People just saw the "engaged in oral sex with her" line and assumed that. It looks like he was the one going to town on her, but the facts are still up in the air as far as whether she was the one initiating it or if he was. One says he was munching on her limp body while others say she was pressing her crotch in his face. Since it's a reality show our best sources are all the crappy tabloids that report on it.

Yeah my first impression was he started giving HER oral when he lifted her out of the hot tub. either way its assault though so i guess thats not really an important detail on whether he was giving or receiving oral.

Don't mean to sound ignorant here, but I always presumed the shows were largely scripted. I definitely didn't think any of these sort of sexual encounters were real.

If it was filmed, that should be pretty open and shut against the people that allowed something to continue.

you don't sound ignorant. this shit is almost always a rig, which is why I hardly believe any of this and will gladly recant my words in the 1 year follow up of a legal conclusion to this case (which if true, heads should fucking roll).

Reality shows are pro wrestling and I'm always very cautious about picking up the pitchfork when something controversial like this happens. I'm perhaps naive, but I would guess almost all people except actual rapists disapprove of rape, so clamouring to claim disgust to show you big heartedness always leaves me a bit cold.

You are missing my point entirely. I completely agree that in cases where someone displays those obvious signs, that it is rape. Nothing ambiguous, nothing difficult, it's rape. What I'm arguing is in the case when people can actually black out but still operate "normally" (they just look a bit drunk).

^^ this is a really real thing that most grown ups with alcohol experience probably understand reasonably well. It's why people drive cars when smashed, it's why we get in fights, it's probably why some rapists rape and claim they didn't know better, it's PROBABLY IN SOME CASES (NOT ALL) also why some girls claim they were raped but the guy says she was in to it, etc etc.

I'll probably get hanged for the above, but alcohol is messy. making everything cut and dried doesn't actually do anyone any favours.

to be clear

So she's basically passed out on the fucking floor and he puts his dick in her mouth.

What. the. fuck.

^^ the reactions in this thread, I would be absolutely surprised if this is exactly what really occurred. Bystander syndrome is a real thing, but I can't imagine professionals judging content would all be just down with it and taping things.

lets see now

To recap: Multiple sources told People that BIP producers allegedly filmed cast member DeMario Jackson engaging in a sexual encounter with a female contestant who may have been too drunk to consent. Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the specifics of the allegations. Jackson, meanwhile, has defended himself to TMZ, stating, through sources, that he had oral sex with a female contestant in a hot tub and that “the next day everything was fine.” Now, sources close to the female contestant are telling TMZ her side of the story. Originally, our sister site the Cut withheld the name of the contestant due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the fact that she had not yet spoken out about them. Now, however, we will present her side of things, as told to TMZ.

this all reads like gossip. Lets put people on trial folks! Smells like 'holy shit they were hammered' --> american legal advice preemptive statement --> gossip ensues.

GAF is stupid with this shit sometimes. maybe wait till the courtcase.

If I'm reading this correctly (and someone can call me out if I'm wrong), it looks like they both started to engage in some form of intercourse while both being drunk (with the primary question here being whether she was too drunk to consent, period), and at some point during this she passed out and he kept going (if that Daily Mail report is true). If that were the case, then that's still sexual assault on his part (unless you get explicit consent otherwise, unconscious is where you stop, end of story), and I could possibly see why she doesn't think of him as harshly as you might expect someone in her situation to.

Apparently they found out the storyline when they arrived in Mexico, and started drinking together to get to know each other better.

The BIP crew member told the Daily Mail that the incident occurred after producers suggested Jackson and Olympios hook up. ”Corinne and Demario found out when they arrived in Mexico that the story line would involve the two of them hooking up so they decided to hang out and get better acquainted over drinks," the source said. ”Soon they decided to go swimming and when they climbed into the Jacuzzi, they were both loaded. Corinne proceeded to remove her bathing suit and things got increasingly sexual."

Presumably that kind of thing happens all the time for like, ten years now, yes. On the show they'll cut to some metaphorically suggestive scenery and/or a wacky sound effect. Or a sweet, tender shot along with romantic piano music if that's what they're trying to convey. Etc. But either way yeah, there's definitely years worth of sexual footage on the cutting room floor of those shows.
The floors of the cutting room are notably sticky

If that quote is true and the alleged rapist wants the tapes to go public to prove that he wasn't the aggressor, then I think at the very least people should refrain from judging anyone in this situation. If they filmed the whole thing, the truth will get out in court

Yeah Jackson seems pretty adamant about his innocence and Corrinne doesn't appear upset at him, rather the producers. I think it's fair to wait for the tapes before calling this sexual assault. It's not like the other sources quoted here aren't gossip outlets.

This has happened to me more than once. The last time, I was in a certain bar and then from my point of view all of a sudden I was in another bar. I was with a group so I was safe but I'd no recollection of leaving the first place and I just sort of came round in the second. I don't think anyone noticed I'd blacked out because apparently I was still acting normally enough.

Haven't gotten drunk like that since, it's not very pleasant tbh.

It's weird that no one stopped it simply because I would assume "this isn't a porno!" part of the production staff would jump in. At least cut the cameras and say theres no point in filming since they can't air it...

But I guess reality tv people don't use their best judgement. Seriously messed up. But if they did film it, it does make for a harassment case even more so a case to hold ABC in responsibility too.

The general sentiment in reality TV is to film everything and cut whatever they need to out in post. It's why many/most of them that take place in specific locations (i.e. they don't move around like The Amazing Race) have mounted cameras everywhere in addition to the film crews around the place.

Edit: And to the person asking if they had/have to get a "porno permit". There's no such thing as a porno permit. You get a filming permit, that generally allows you to film anything that's not actually illegal to do. In some places you have to state what you're filming to get the permit, but there's no special permit needed if you're filming pornography.

Some of the BIP contestants are married irl after they dated on the show. I'm not buying that it's scripted

Just because they script some of it doesn't mean they script all of it.

As far as I know most of the sex scenes aren't real. A friend's friend was on The Bad Girl club. He showed up flirted with a girl, they made out in bed. Show cut it to look like they had sex.

There is a part of me that feels like they're exploiting this for buzz.

All of this is super gross either way.

If anything, this puts an enormous tarnish on the current Bachelorette's season. Her season was supposed to be the season that elevated the franchise.

This show is cancelled. The have them back their cell phones. They sent them all back home. Production didn't do this for publicity, they did this to cover their asses and to investigate what exactly happened.

They were both too drunk to consent if everyone's stories are true and someone should have stopped filming and prevented the interaction then and there.

Fuck no. The Bachelor is one of the most popular franchises on network TV. It's the only returning show that had its ratings go up YoY. I'm sure ABC/WB want this whole thing to go away, but it clearly isn't going to. Hopefully this is a catalyst for change with how the show views alcohol. Corinne was clearly drunk most of last season, and I'm sure the producers started feeding her drinks as soon as she got to Mexico.

From another female contestant:

"The day of the incident under investigation, Corinne [Olympios] did not display any change in behavior from what was observed by the cast on her season of ‘The Bachelor’,” Goode, who was a contestant on this season, said in a statement to E! News. “Corinne forced herself on three male cast members, when they were unable to consent, in addition to engaging with DeMario. After the incident everything seemed fine. There was no mention about being hurt. However, when producers tried to cut her off from drinking, she got upset and said, ‘Watch, watch what I’m gonna do.'”

"He's a good guy." "The girl is sexually provacitive and probably wasn't even that drunk."

Fuuuuuuck this showwww, fuuuuucccckkkk these producers. Hope this poor girl can recover and get the justice she deserves.

As some one who worked on a reality tv show, I can confirm that it is "scripted". As in, we tell the contestant what to do and they do it no questions asked. Even if it was to make the contestant look stupid. Even if the contestant felt humiliated, they did it.

I did not work on The Bachelor, but it was a mega hit reality tv show. I can't imagine this practice being different on other shows.

The little I saw of her in The Bachelor (the mainline show), she was forcing herself on the Nick dude and even dressed up and showed up to his hotel room unannounced late at night to try and sleep with him (and this was in the middle of the season, not near the end).

Note (editing this in): I didn't write that to shame or to call into question what happened. Just a comment on how she was in the bits and pieces I watched.

Now with this other contestant's story, it casts doubt on the assault, but it's not for any of us to say, of course, only to speculate. Hopefully it all gets figured out with the raw footage and first-hand accounts of those on set.

Yeah, I remember the other girls getting upset at how she was getting overly sexual early in the season. During a pool party she pulled off her bikini top and embraced Nick. You could tell he was thrown off a bit by it.

Can't say what happened on BIP but I'm not so quick to pull out the pitchforks given what we've seen of Corrine. However, her promiscuity could certainly have been exploited and she could have been raped. Shitshow regardless, and the producers should have done more to try stopping it if even part of what's reported is true.

Damn, how drunk did producers let everyone on that set get?

I wonder if this will lead to any changes with how reality TV shows handle alcohol availability on set? Especially shows where sexual activity could occur.

The plus side to this being a show: It's all on tape. for sure. If anything comes of it there's concrete proof of what occurred.

My wife just got an update on her phone from People (ugh) that the show is back in production due to no evidence of misconduct.

http://people.com/tv/bachelor-paradise-investigation-ends-warner-bros-statement/

Yeah, here's the TMZ video showing that Warner Brothers concluded upon their investigation that there was no sexual assault.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7QO8LIil-s

Not sure why you're upset that it's back in production if in fact there no crime had been committed.

Where did all of this come from then? If this woman claims she was sexually assaulted, how was this limited to an internal investigation and not a criminal one? This seems fishy.

Would not be surprised to find out that this was all a work as part of the storyline.

Yes, they shut down their whole production and delayed it in order to increase unnecessary costs and efforts and potentially damaging headlines towards the brand of the show and it's future and the people involved in order for it to be part of a storyline.

Seems like they had video evidence in coming to that conclusion, honestly feel for dude. Rape allegations are near impossible to get away from after your innocence is established. Most people will have already formed opinions.

(I still think it isn't... but given their history, the chance isn't 0%)
