PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Oh god. I just bought this. I told myself I have no times to play much of anything this summer (projects galor). Played it once last night and I've been thinking about it constantly since.

I guess being shot from an unknown location and feeling clueless is a common experience ;) ?

The "where the fuck did I just get him from" deaths turn into "GOD DAMNIT WHY DIDN'T I DO ______ FIRST" moments the more you play. Especially in Solo rounds. Teaches you to be very calculated very quick, and you get better at the game because of it. Very nice.

I think the hotkey is Ctrl+V.

thats very helpful! thanks

also good god i am so bad at reacting to getting shot at, i think i have only managed to identify the actual source of the shots maybe once out of 15 times, i always am totally baffled where i am getting killed from

just gotta learn to not panic and listen i guess

Wow, squads is a completely different game from solo. Between that and upgrading my old R9 280 for a good deal I got on a 980, it feels like I got a sequel. Well, no, not really, but maybe a expansion.

Looks like a kill assist feature is being added with the patch tomorrow. If one player kills somebody that a teammate of theirs downed than they get an assist. If some random person gets the kill the person who downed them gets the assist and the killer keeps the kill.

No more stealing Salty's kills. ;_;

I think my favorite hidden quality I love about this game is how drastically different all three game modes feel. Post-apocalyptic and very tense in Solo, more strategic & calm with a buddy in Dubs, to walking a fine line between mayhem/bad-assery in Squads. Like it's all completely different to me. I love it.

I'm in the same boat, since I started playing Squads I haven't gone back...And I'll gladly take 4 quick wipes landing in the Military Base with idiots if it means I get to win calling out the last 2-3 guys with my mates. So dope.

The SKS + 4x scope has to be the worst combo out there.
Fuck. That.

SKS and 4x usually means a top 5 finish for me. Though I mainly only use it when I haven't been spotted, and I spot someone >50 metres away crouched or prone behind a rock/tree/on a rooftop. It's too slow in a straight shoot-out.

Yeah exactly. I had a few top 3 finishes yesterday and came 2nd twice...I really should have won both games as I had great position/ideal weapons and gear but just didn't take advantage of it. It's brutal when you're so close to winning so often, but I just need to be more aggressive in the final circles and not wait for the other player to make the first move.

Got my second chicken dinner and beat my record in kills from 11 to thirteen. Height of this match was finding a guy waddling around in his ghillie suit like a little furball and pasting him from behind and wearing his skin. It wasn't really useful but the adrenaline shot and level 3 helmet he had came in handy.

Yesterday I had a fun moment where I had found nothing but a pistol, and then as I ran out of my compound, a motorcycle drove past me.

I didn't hit him (I think) but he flipped like five seconds later. I hope I had something to do with that.

Then 10 seconds away from his much needed bike and gear the red zone hit me directly for like the second or third time ever in this game.

Then today I had a fun time where I had an almost gimmick build of Vector and VSS, which became UMP and VSS for all 9mm fun, where I actually got one guy who popped out to investigate a crashed buggy, then I saw said buggy driver crawling away in the wheat just beyond where the draw distance ended, because womp womp. I only managed to hit the wheat man about 3 times which is a tenth of what the VSS requires to kill a person and he got away, so oh well! (Then I tried to shoot a guy proning down a hill away from someone being shot at, and despite him being only 15 feet away I decided to use my VSS instead of my UMP for """""stealth""""" as it was Top 10, which resulted in a very angry mildly wounded prone guy killing me with an M16).

I also had a fun moment where I landed in Rozhok, found a crossbow on a roof, and decided to try and reenact my VSS escapades from yesterday, at which point a player I had heard before had somehow completely walked silently up my 2 story and shot me point blank in the head with the double barrel without me even hearing a single creak, which was more impressive than frustrating.

Anyone find it sometimes super hard to hit people with shotguns at close range?

Like I know that's what they're for but if someone just strafes back and forth it's so easy for them to dodge it.

As someone who has, on numerous occasions, stolen other players' vehicles rather than killing them, now having it happen to me... it really sucks! I became that person who wildly fires at them as they drive away in my ride.

Pretty much every team I've had demand to start there has ended up TKing right off the bat, or TKing once you gathered everything for them, or not TKing at all and just being exactly what you think of when I say "anonymous piece of shit on the internet".

Gotta get that siiiiiick loot

Edit: oh look, again

I'm no expert, but these are the things I would recommend from my personal experiences.

1. Try to insure a good start. There's a couple of ways of going about that. Either find a nice area that's out of the way of the main flight path and focus on looting or land in a high traffic area and survive the initial deathmatch push by being aggressive and clearing folks out with whatever you can find on hand.

2. Once the first couple of circles are gone, looting becomes more difficult. Often places will already be cleared out and possibly have some guy camping and roasting marshmellows in the bathroom. Whether or not you want to hunt people down depends upon your equipment. If you have close range stuff you can clear these buildings out. If you have long range you might as well chill in forests. The way the loot spawns seem to work is that you tend to find items within certain categories. Like earlier the town of Rozhok had lots of ARs in the houses but no body armor. I had to yank a vest off a body later. Which leads to my last tip.

3. Hunt people and go where the action is. The game is set up to pressure you because you rarely find everything you need in one place. Hunting other players lets you add whatever they looted to your inventory add their strength to your own. It also increases the chance that the area you take from them is clear. It's rare for multiple teams to occupy the same small area. By taking their ground you let them do the work for you.

thank you for these wonderful tips! i'm going to apply them to my play-style next match and hope to impress you with my forthcoming improvements :)

Not sure what is up with the dmg..or if it's just me.

I end up finding some body armor and a helmet right off the bat, explore some more and find an AR with plenty of ammo.

Guy walks in, I hit him with the ar (no armor/helmet on him) about 5 times he then hits me twice and I die...

you have to understand that with lag, it may seem like hes shooting less than he is, and sometimes youre dead before the shots you see actually go off, so he might not have actually gotten hit by some of them. without lag tho, if he hits you in the head with the first bullet and chest in the second, you die in 2 bullets

Some buffs to handguns would be nice, switching to your handgun should be really really fast so can quickly switch if you run out of ammo on your main weapon in close quaters. Or more damage if you're close to your target.

I played this today on my friends computer. What an amazing game, I really want a PC now. I feel like this is exactly what I've been waiting for since socom died. It's not socom but it's the next best thing. I need to save up for a PC!!

I've always argued that a quickholster item (to replace your action belt or whatever that thing is in your equipment list) would be a nice incentive to have to enable faster weapon switching.

A quick solo game (chicken dinner ) to test the new patch. Defintly a big improvement for me, i would say like +20 fps gain, way less stutter and the game look way better. I don't know if the patch changed something to my setting, but i have inside illumination, a lot of light effect i didn't saw before and the object's shadows are way better.

I have a r9 200 and a non-SSD HDD.

Yeah it's sad.

Maybe with a red-dot and the fact it have the easiest-to-find silencer, it will be the first gun to have an actual use in the game.

I have used the revolver with a silencer a few times to great success, fairly late game too when you sneak up on someone and dont want to announce the rest of the 20 people still left where you are. It deals the same damage as the AK so 2-3 shots will kill most people and they wont have a clue whats happening. But its only if you havent got any other silencer really.

If the revolver could fit a RDS or 2x scope or something I would use it even more i think, it is basically a pocket sniper that is extremely quiet with a silencer.

Cloud9 just picked up to amazingly good streamers, Chappie and SolidFPS.

eSports is coming

One doesn't follow from the other. They're picking them up for brand promotion. Until they up the tick rate this game will never have a significant e-sport component. Even then it is pretty unlikely due to how much RNG there is.

Maybe they should make you more mobile and have an easier time interacting with the world, if you have a handgun out, since they are lighter, less clunky and you have one hand free. Like opening doors faster, faster running, jumping faster over obstacles and drawing a weapon (with the new animations), dropping from bigger heights without taking damage, making less noise, drive and shoot, less problems in tight spaces, maybe in the future, climbing ladders and be able to shoot. Of course, this would mean nerfing mobility a little, if you draw bigger weapons. But it would make the game more diverse in options.

I'm in the same boat. Every single death that isn't getting headshot punched (yes) right at the start is invisible mystery bullets that kill me before I even have a chance to react. It never matters, by the time I hear the first shot I'm already dead.

I only play solo. A "killcam" might be going too far, but at least swinging the camera around and highlighting the enemy player would be helpful (I believe H1Z1 King of the Kill does this).

i've had so many bad games today :( getting killed early or surviving long but not getting a lot of kills and then losing somewhere on top 5

yeah agreed, I'm with you on this one too, but then again HS is an eSport and that game is super RNG heavy so who knows really ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If anything, the reason why PUBG cannot be an esport is because the format is super uncomfortable for organizers. you need to fill a server with 100 players and unless they change the gamemode and map for for less players that's going to hard to fill with esport teams I think.

PUBG is a great streamer game though, so that's why esport organizations are very willing to sign streamers playing the game since the game is so popular.

I'd like to hear more from others on this? So a new update was pushed today that improved performance and graphics?
