CNN: Three GOP senators -- including Rand Paul -- expected to oppose health care bill

Washington (CNN)At least three Republican senators are expected to publicly oppose the Senate's health care proposal Thursday afternoon, a Senate GOP source familiar with their plans told CNN.

An aide confirmed Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is expected to be one of those three senators.

Republicans can only lose two members of their 52-senator caucus in order to pass their proposal to repeal and replace Obamacare.

The news of three senators opposing the plan was first reported by NBC News. A number of other GOP senators are avoiding outright supporting the new health care bill unveiled by Republican leaders Thursday morning -- saying they need more time to read the fine print before taking a stand.

It's probably Ted Cruz. The guy claims he's a conservative, but when it was time to call for Donald Trump, he fucking did it.

This is all theatre.

This is meaningless. They'll make some insignificant changes and those people will be aboard.

They will either fall in line.

Or the Turtle knew this would happen and this is the GOP's way to say they tried...

I have no clue anymore.

Sure

Anecdotal I know but here in Arizona Flake is taking a lot of shit for this bill. He will vote for it but his office has sent out a few emails saying that he stands behind certain aspects of Obamacare.

As someone on Twitter pointed out, they're probably just doing this so they can turn heel when special offers and/or meaningless concessions are made

It would not surprise me if they arranged to have exactly three oppose it. Turtle probably knows it's going to be doomsday for the Senate majority in 2020 if this passes, but also knows much of his caucus is scared of primaries if it fails.

So, he's going to find the three least vulnerable and have them oppose it to kill it.

Just to confirm, this would need to go back to the house after the vote anyway, right?

Paul won't, but they don't need him if they can ensure 1 other No turns Yes.

I think there's more than 3, though, they're just reporting 3 because it's the threshold for it failing. We'll have to see who those senators are.

I certainly hope it's more than 3. Definitely agree that Paul won't change. Being opposed to everything that's not his exact ideal is the only thing that you can count on with him.

This hasn't ever worked. The entire party is blamed for it. Those vulnerable senators will still lose.

It might be true.

Perhaps the bill doesnt kill poor people fast enough. Or maybe it doesnt kill enough poor people.

It can always be better.

"Open to negotiation"

i.e. make small changes and we're in. Collins and Murkowski will likely be the 2 no's left by the end giving them cover.

"Doesn't Hurt Enough People"

That's not the group of 3 you wanted. Collins/Murkowski will vote against, it'll pass 50+1 vs 49.

All aboard! The Love train!
Three of the most conservative senators are concerned it doesn't do enough to fuck over the poor and middle class.

This is nothing. They're going to vote for it.

Politico says:

#BREAKING: Republican Sens. Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and Rand Paul said Thursday that they are "not ready" to support the Senate Republicans' Obamacare repeal plan. Senate Republicans can only lose two members and still pass a bill.

Best thing about this song and dance is that they'll brag about how they played us all along to maximize their political capital and save some seats in districts opposed to this reform.

And the voting public won't give a shit.
