Cave Story coming to Switch [June, $30, new local MP mode, new bonus stages]

This is my first time playing the game and I need some advice: what music style should I use? CS+ is the default soundtrack but should I use organya, remastered, or famitracks instead?

Music in games are very is very important to me so I wanna make sure I'm getting the best experience possible.

Remastered is the perfect blend of chiptune and a more modernized arrangement.

I'm really liking the famitracks arrangements.

I'd recommend Organya or Remastered. Though if you want a quieter, more mellow soundtrack, go with CS+.

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I guess I'll go with Organya for now and switch to Remastered on my second go.

Woo, finally had time to pick it up.

Got to the nemesis last night, true end path. Only spots I died were weapon x (forgot how the fight works) and the core (forgot about drowning). This is still cave story through and through, all the things that made it great with the same jank that made it frustrating
(true end 0.8 jump >:| )

Are the bonuses all inside? Does the packaging say anything about the goodies inside? (Thinking of getting it...)

All the goodies were inside the actual game case. So since I got mine from Gamestop (keychain and microfiber baggie exclusive to them), that was the manual/keychain/microfiber baggie/and mini CD. The employees behind the desk were confused when they couldn't find my bonus stuff, when the woman there felt the game case and noticed how thick it felt, only to realize it was already inside the case.

The packaging was just like plain plastic. Like normal soft plastic shrinkwrap instead of the more industrial kind you see with first-party games. (iirc they do this with their packaging for BoI Switch too, because that's how they packaged all the goodies inside). Nothing on the outside about the goodies inside.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to check out Gamestop this week then!

Mine should be here this friday, hopefully with a keychain inside.

Though I'd like the main character, so if I get the girl or dog, is anyone open to trade?
XD

Hey guys, I've never played Cave Story before beyond a few minutes in the freeware version years ago.

I've already picked up the Switch physical version but just wanted to ask - is this the definitive version? What I'm reading points to yes - it looks like there's exclusive new content (I would love if someone could elaborate on this) although the original graphics are missing.

Does anyone know if you have to beat the game with Snake to unlock the new Snake challenge? Or does just getting the true ending unlock the new challenge if you have the Spur? Just getting the Snake didn't unlock it.

I have a coupon from BB making this effectively $20 after GCU... I think I'll give it a try. I've never played this before. It sounds like its up my alley. Everyone is saying this is a definite Indie game.

If nothing else I can just beat it and sell it before Mario Kingdom Battle.

This is pretty much the definitive version, yeah, it has everything present in past versions (including the 3DS' formerly exclusive wide-screen support) minus the original graphics. It also adds a couple of new challenges including a new area, water physics, a lighting effect to characters and your weapons' shots, and talking animations for portraits. I hear a co-op mode is coming as free DLC too?

Yeah coop is coming at the end of the summer which is the only reason I got this version. I wouldn't be surprised if they included the og graphics as an update.

I just returned my Amazon copy to my nearby Amazon Locker and got a copy from GameStop. It seems the pouch + keychain is inside the actual packaging. I manage to snag a

.

Has anyone found the keychain in off-the-shelf copies at GameStop or was it a definite "you had to preorder" situation?
Nope. You just need to make sure its a first run release. Thankfully you can tell just from feeling the package if it feels stuffed.

Maybe I'm old, but what's the point of physical if the biggest feature is going to be patched in later (not on the cart)?

Biggest feature is: it is physical. Not the stuff patched later. It is literally Cave Story on a cart.

Simply the point. Actually age would likely make you amenable to this. Maybe you are just not old enough.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I finished the game. Holy hell, it's waaaaaaaaaay better than I remember. This game is amazing. I don't know why it just clicked for me this time. Interestingly, I found it a hell of a lot easier this time, as well. Probably helped that I was playing it with the Pro Controller rather than the 360 controller.

I'll go back to uncover some of the other endings/secrets tomorrow.

I wanted the best ending on my first run so I checked online and damn, good luck doing all of this by yourself, haha! I knew by watching a review that one of the first part to have it was
to not talk to the professor when you see him falling after beating Weapon X.
When I saw it happen I felt like "Fuck, I wanna have that ending now." and caved.

I'm at the point where
I just got the Booster 2.0 and the Spur.
Will do it again to have the other endings after that.

UK GAF. IF you're wanting a physical copy, there are a few sellers on Amazon selling the US version with Prime shipping. Ends up about £36 or a little less with longer shipping.

Ordered yesterday and arrived this morning. Beats waiting for proper EU release details.
