Something tells me this year there will be some hard choices to be made :(
And this is not yet listing the BB8 and the rumored UCS MF.
As well no sub-100 sets and none of my favorite Technic line ...
Code:
Number	Name USPrice	EUPrice
10255	Assembly Square 279,99	239,99
10257	Carousel 199,99	179,99
21309	NASA Apollo Saturn V	119,99	119,99
21310	Old Fishing Store	149,99	149,99
70618	Destiny's Bounty	159,99	169,99
70620	NINJAGO City 299,99	299,99
75144	Snowspeeder 199,99	199,99

sum 1409,93	1359,93

Go oldest first? I got nothing.

My newfound interest in Lego is at direct odds with my "buy it on sale" mantra. I hate paying full price for anything, even if full price is the only price. And in the case of the sets above, full price will indeed likely be the only price. That's why I cling to VIP double points. I need a little something back, even if it doesn't amount to much in the end.

Also curses to TRU and Target for always specifically excluding Hard to Find from their general sales. Drives me crazy.

Just build this. Pizza Van is on its way too, so my citizens will have their share of food trucks. I will buy and mod the Friends Hot Dog later too.

Again my tip to folks in the US. You can get toysrus gift cards on eBay from eBay/paypal itself on sale from time to time at 15%off. Getting that on items that never discount (and sale) items is awesome.

Which reminds me. I never setup an official slickdeals alert for them yet. I've actually bought some 600$ in gift cards this way already... Haha

For those in the EU/UK who were wondering about double VIP points in July. Hothbricks are reporting it is available from 1st -4th July.

Not sure I actually need/want anything!
Maybe I'll finally pickup the Beetle/2CV.

Both yay and boo. I'm making hilariously huge strides this month in clearing my debt, but double points will probably strip me of some change. Won't help that I've already done £360 on Lego since getting back in to it THIS MONTH and the whole damned reason I got back is the Saturn V which I still don't have!

I buy pretty much only Star Wars sets and I don't regret Palace Cinema for a second.

Hmmm..

I still think I'll hold. Saturn V, Slave 1, Red 5, Tie, Snowspeeder, Tower Bridge, Big Ben, Beetle, Mini, Camper I think are all still higher in my want list.

I'm at least fortunate that I'm not that fussed about the carousel or a bunch of the other big sets.

Fortunately being an active member of LUG has some advantages, although with some limitations (location, availability, etc) one can get discounts. But then, anything that is, let's say less than -15-20% off, I have hard time persuading myself to buy.

The exception being 'Saturn V' which I bought for full price on the signing event.

The only other set from this list is 'Assembly Square' which leaves still some list to buy.

Is there anything new out around then?

Ive still to pick up the GOTG/Spiderman stuff and a Batmobile so might just catch up then.

Did anybody confirm wether Ninjago City is on a baseplate or just standard plates yet? I've only seen people lean towards it being on a baseplate, but the pics showing the sewer make it look like it's multiple black plates on the bottom...

The footprint is 31cm x 42cm, so it has to be using multiple plates on the bottom. A 32x32 baseplate is 25cm x 25cm.

Look closely at this pic (especially at full resolution):

There is a baseplate underneath it all.

Count the studs too. It is 32x32 studs. As for the measurements, they could be measuring the cherry blossom tree sticking out of it.

Hmm I really like the idea of ninjago city but as wetwired said its too messy in my opinion. Up close theres all these super cool details and its this sweet cyberpunk city but from a distance its this big blob. Thats probably what they were going for but Im running out of space and if I had to choose I'd go with the old fishing store, just looks more cohesive as a whole to me.

I like the idea of a crazy organic city of Ninjago City. It may may first Ninjago buy (technically, since my son is a fan and have a lot of sets). But Old Fishing Store is calling me too. I may get both this year.

Well, my shopping list is still huge:
- Palace Cinema
- Detective's Office
- Brick Bank
- Assembly Square
- Carousel
- Camper Van
- Mini Cooper
- Holiday Train
- Winter Toy Shop

A big maybe:
- Disney Castle
- Porsche 911
- Ferris Wheel

Yeah, I will never be able to get all of those....

That was my initial reaction at first, but it fits the theme, and looking more closely, there's a lot things I like about it. I'll probably bite.

Except that, since we're into lists, I already have Old Fishing Store, Carrousel, Destiny's bounty and probably Snowspeeder (I'm still annoyed it's not smaller) on shopping list (it's saying a lot about 2017 quality that I'll probably pass on Silent Mary)

And I still consider buying a spare GBHQ, DO and BB to make those a bit bigger... I'm more and more addict (and since I only lack time to go MOC-ing and use Bricklink even more...)

Yeah I wish space wasnt an issue for me or I'd be doing that. I have two large shelf racks full of lego and dont have room for a third. If i get the old fishing store I'd have to put it on my night stand or something lol

I might have to start disassembling older stuff into parts to save space. Of course that would require organizing all my pieces...

This year...

I'm seeing all these posts about trying to budget these sets, and I'm thinking how awesome it is that we have this problem, with LEGO releasing so many quality sets in one calendar year.

As someone who buys all of the Star Wars sets (43 for this year so far!), and dabbles in the best sets from other themes (and D2C of course), I definitely understand the struggle.

I could buy shelves, but I'm not that eager to do it... I have ~3 meters of shelves in the room where I work, I'm thinking about putting a modular street on top of it. It's high (~2m) but I've seen other gaffers doing this, and that may be a solution.

But yes, I lack space, and because of this, 75% of my lego D2C sets are mint in box...

"size" yes, it's on a 32x32 baseplate, and the height is similar/a bit higher (depending on the modular). If you mean actually compatible with pins, not sure...

Hot damn that's a lot.

Weirdly, I'm really not fussed by many of them despite being a huge fan of the franchise. I could get Poes xwing for example, but I just can't get excited about it. But then I see Red Five and I need it in my life.

I'm one of the lucky ones!

Feeling the same... I'm almost never interested in "normal" sets, unless it can be used to improve a modular (I can see myself buying a bus or a foodtruck to put in a modular street, for example).

I'm one of the lucky ones!
Are we? The opposite (wanting Poe's instead of UCS) would be cheaper ;)

Specs on Ninjago City vs the Modular series:

Ninjago City: 24"h x 12"w x 16"d
Assembly Square: 13.5"h x 15"w x 9"d
Parisian Restaurant: 12"h x 10"w x 9"d
Town Hall: 20"h x 10"w x 9"d

At least it's a corner, so it should be fine no matter. unless you want to do a square block

then you'll need a second for the diagonal opposite corner

I just looked, those are official dimensions for Ninjago city, but that doesn't make sense...

All modulars are on a 32x32 baseplate, so 10" wide and 10" depth, except Assembly square with is 48x32, thus 15" wide and 10" depth. I guess the 10x9 and 15x9 are just rounding errors (well, I think it goes like this: a 32x32 plate is exactly 10.07", or 256mm, but they rounded the 256mm to 25cm, which converts to 9.84", and they truncated the result to 9"... but the width is 8mm more because of the pins, so 264mm > 26cm > 10.23" > 10")

But how can the Ninjago city be 12x16 on a 32x32 plate? I guess the 12 is just the protuding branch, the 16? It's the footprint when you take into account the boat?

I'm not sure either, but I do agree that the branch probably has something to do with it.

The boat is quoted with its own dimensions, so I don't think it would be included in the overall set dimensions.

As Phon mentioned above, the base is 32x32, so the same as modulars.

I just bought a couple Vittsjo shelves from IKEA. I'm going to set them up in my den to put some of my collectibles and LEGO sets on. Has anyone ever lit them with LED strips? Possibly the Phillips Hue ones?

I'm not into Ninjago but I need those double torso'd guys and the sea creature heads including the shark helmet. And the saimin bowl, girl with the cape, the sushi chef, and the corn flakes box. Actually maybe I'm just into Ninjago now.

When i first heard about the Ninjago CMF line I thought 'finally a cmf line I can skip" Now i'm depressed because there is a shitload of those I want. They fit in so well with a City or Modular street so well. So many parts and accessories I need, hoodie with hair, bowls, scientist girl with goofy glasses, laptop and batman tshirt, all the different t-shirts, selfie stick and I need more scarves.

Ninjago CMF series looks great :) But I expect nothing less after the LEGO Movie CMF series. Batman CMF series was pretty good too.

Yes! You may as well embrace it, i was the same a couple years back... then i watched the show which is actually quite good! Then i needed to have a TON of sets because in the context of the show, almost ALL of them are great to have, plus a lot of them also stand on their own even without so much as passing knowledge of the show.

Just noticed the Star Wars Rebel Combat Frigate (75158) - which was marked as "Retired" a few weeks ago - is back with a discount, at least in Europe.
Currently 83,99 € instead of 119,99 €

Im really liking the ninjago mech designs but the lack of knee joints is killing it for me. Thats so important for getting good poses. Without it most mechs become lifeless. Its why I loved the kings mech so much. I understand its because of stability but if it requires a new part to make it possible then do it. Its that important.

So this isn't the Garmadon Shark Mech, but another Garmadon shark mech?

aVcyb5A.jpg

Weird.

I do like the "Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!" nod though.

I can't find an image but if you watch the Ninjago trailer there is a different larger mech walking around that looks like a giant shark sitting on mech legs. Its right at the beginning of that trailer where the married couple are running away from it. Its clearly different than the humanoid garmadon mech so maybe it transforms or something in the movie. That humanoid one isn't bad but if I can get a freaking shark with legs mech I will take that in a heartbeat. nomnomnomnom

You're right. Looking closely its clearly on a baseplate. I just didn't see it. I guess that the dimensions simply refer to the protruding points of the set at its widest and deepest points.

Well, it looks like it will be able to be modded to connect to another modular, if not by default out of the box.
