Aaron Greenberg: "there are a lot" of big unannounced Xbox games.

The issues is that shit didn't sell. MS gave Remedy, Insomniac and companies like Mistwalker and they made great games, but they just didn't sell. I don't really think you can say it was down to a lack of marketing in those cases too. So why should MS continue funding them? Why didn't Sunset sell despite it being amazing? Why did BlueDragon or Lost Odyssey fail despite being better than any JRPG released this gen?

Why does Nintendo fund 2 new Metroid games? Shit doesn't sell yet they do it anyway because there's a relatively tiny fanbase that would get a console for these things.

Persecution complex? I don't own a console. I play on PC but notice the trend of Microsoft related threads regardless of the topic usually devolving into it being bashed. When Psyonix came out and flat out said Sony is blocking crossplay months ago people tried somehow to blame Microsoft and it wasn't till E3 when more developers came out and Sony could no longer be defended for their decision.

This thread was made to go "LOL sure Microsoft!" and nothing more.

This thread was a neutral message on a PR statement by a MS spokesperson with almost no commentary attached to it. Them devolving into getting bashed is because 90% of these threads are about Phil or somone else saying the same thing over and over again for years and nothing siginifcant coming out of it.

Didn't see the Psyonix crossplay thread. There being idiots on both sides isn't really significant to the discussion tho. If you can even call it that. "Lol MS should deliver on their promises at some point." "Omg GAFFaqs, shit slinging, what do you expect on this forum yadda yadda!"

So, when Sony says this, everyone is cool and says, "Of course", but when Microsoft says pretty much the exact same thing, almost everyone is doubting? Yeah, that makes sense...

Theres reasons for that.
Sonys 1st party delivers and has been for years. MS has a history of blowing hot air and delivering very little especially since kinect.

Lots of very childish and unintelligent replies up in here.

He was asked a question and he answered it. This wasn't some sort of announcement.

They can't just say nothing. Are you freaking kidding me? The MS is dad speculation runs rampant enough because of their current drought. If they continued to say nothing as an answer to the most asked question of them from their consumers atm the world wouldn't be able to handle the level of elementary critical thinking that would ensue.

The issue here is: who is making these new ip? 343i is working on Halo 6 100%. The Coalition will work on Gears 5 99.9%. Playground is working on FH4 and a new ip correct? Rare is busy with Sea of Thieves. I don't think any major third party studio will work on a AAA xbox esclusive. Maybe they will create a new studio? This could take a lot of time.
This is basically why comments like this from Phil Spencer and Aaron Greenberg are so infuriating..

Look how many exclusives both have released/announced this past year, it's not crazy to have doubts over MS having "a lot of big unannounced Xbox exclusives" or believing Sony will have more lined up. Especially as Sony's track record backs them up, MS' doesn't.

That is how reputation works. Company 1 promises ___ years away and cancels half of them and Company 2 promises ___ years away and eventually releases them all. It's clear who you can trust with games and who tarnished their rep with making games.

xbox fan but not a fan of aaron myself.

the posts in this thread are embarrassing as per usual on xbox related topics.

I don't even own an Xbox, but god damn are Xbox threads unbearable these days. The sad truth is even if they did announce a couple of huge new first party IPs at E3 everyone would just say stuff like, "They're just going to get cancelled anyway." Bunch of children on this forum.

At the end of the day Microsoft hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt. They are the boy who cried wolf.

Launching a console at 499 without a single killer app is moving in the right direction?
"Killer apps" are third party games. The only people who launch with Killer apps are Nintendo because they don't have third party support. You act as if Assassins creed, COD and Battlefront 2 aren't launching within a week or so of the Xbox one x

Cool, I need more console launch exclusives.
Still don't know what that means. Anyone else?
Sony is a different situation. Last year they revelead four major exclusive games : god of war , days gone , death stranding and the last of us pt II ( and even more mid budget games like Uncharted lost legacy and Knack 2). But we also know that there are teams working on something new like Sucker Punch ( Infamous SS was released in 2014 ).
... and a minor exclusive called Spider-Man

Nintendo has managed to alienate almost an entire 3rd party industry.

Scalebound was getting lukewarmb receptions at best and people want to keep pretending there was something there just because it was kamiya. And by all accounts that split didn't seem to break any partnership that could come in the future between the two.

The fact you think a developer is incapable of not performing is laughable to say the least.

You don't have any idea what your talking about do you?

- Scalebound had co-op from the start
- Scalebound looked amazing in all of its showings. But that's not on Kamiya

Yeah maybe sort out your narrative before engaging in that stuff folks. I already wasted way too much time in here and also wasted yours. Sorry for that. Also sorry for not replying to the rest of your posts but yeah... Not worth our time lol.

My comment didn't say there was no one at all that liked it.

You highlighting that is strange since it doesn't contradict what i posted.

Gravity Rush 2
Kingdom Hearts 2.8
Kingdom Hearts I.5+II.5
Nioh
Yakuza Zero
Persona 5
Horizon

That's just the first four months this year and it already beats LukasTaves' laughable 4 year list into oblivion.

Cool. If they look nice when they show them I'll pick them up. It's dope that they release their stuff across console and PC now.

*insert predictable snark*

Not really a killer app at all when they will all be available on three other consoles all $100 - $250 cheaper than oneX. With a 90m install base at that.
And even if cod/battlefront 2 are significantly technically superior on oneX no one will know outside of digital foundry viewers because of their ps4 marketing agreements.

So people in the thread where it was originally posted did not think it was thread worthy, yet Chobel decides to make one anyone. Seeing the responses I wonder why. Hmm indeed.

You're right, in the end it's just 2 different people's opinions. Just stated in a very absolute way. Also the way you both speak of Kamiya like he either has nothing to do with the game looking awsome/is the main reason some people think this game looked good was kinda funny.
Anyway, I don't want to appear like im bailing out of the "discussion", so if you want to continue this we can write pm's. I'm out of here now though.

Okay, am I missing the gag here? As this is Photo shopped.
Yep. It's a real statement by Aaron but says '1080p' instead of 4k, When he was defending Xbone games lower resolutions.

He will never live that stupidity down.

@aaron
Why would list wars end up as below if that were remotely true?

Because those posters don't decide what is thread worthy?

What a dumb comment. There's a bunch of Phil Spencer threads all the time. How is this PR bit any less relevant?

Lots of concern trolling up in here.

I said it before, now that MS delivered on their most powerful hardware mantra, I see them moving on to exclusive titles. They've been consistently moving in the right direction and it's obvious where their next move is.

You can quote me on this.

I love this narrative. Every time I hear this excuse I think "Do you really think Phil Spencer is that incompetent?" Because seriously, there's NO crossover between the hardware engineering teams and game developers, you can do both at the same time.

No need to go to pm. I spoke of kamiya as if he's human and can run into trouble making a game.

There's also nothing absolute about saying the reception on the game was lukewarm.

I thought it was a discussion... no quotes needed.

The other part of this is the notion that hardware development will somehow slow down and be prioritized post-Scorpio. It's a multi-year cycle, and naturally Xbox's hardware team will be neck-deep to planning what the next box already.

Considering it's an extremely strong likelihood the next Xbox would be released in the next 3-4 years, there is no "refocusing", but rather simultaneous development.

Maybe Xbox is hard capped at a certain budget per year. Now that the HW is done, budget moves on dev of games. That could explain why Spencer recently mentioned he gave the green light on a few new projects.

Not sure why you're u expected this thread to be better.

A casual perusal of this board does obviously indicate that most people value Sony and Nintendo's first party games more than Microsoft's (and I can see why, though I think the "MS has no first party games" talking point is sometimes a little bit overblown), I just thought it was amusing because "we have some cool stuff that we haven't announced yet" is always an empty, banal statement, regardless of the company saying it, lol.

But it's not some huge deal or anything, and there's a grain of truth in the differences of first party reception, which is why I said it was "amusing" and not "omg why does everyone hate MS, what a huge double standard"
