It hasn't been 50 years since I Got You Babe.

Wait... No... It's been 52 years...
How the heck did that happen?...

Now I hate The Chainsmokers and much as the next human with a functioning brain, but enough time has passed since Closer came out for me to realize that wow - they did that.

Perfect production, easy lyrics, catchy melody.

You'd be hard to find anyone that can't at least hum along to this song (minus most seniors). I can't think of a single duet in music history that was as big of a force as this song was. It'll be a karaoke classic for years to come.

LOL at the high number of out of touch people on this thread. The biggest song of last year and you haven't heard of it?

Closer is far from being the greatest of anything but to just write it off as garbage that will be forgotten in years? Say that to the classsic pop songs in which music elitists back then wrote off as trash that will be forgotten the next year. I'm not saying Closer will be a 2010s classic, but....

Not even top 5 on the best Duet of the decade.

In no particupar order, 5 better duets off the top of my head

Empire State of Mind
Love the way you lie
Airplanes
Bang Bang
Price Tag

Go back a bit further and you get Disney classics like

Beauty and the Beast - (Tale as old as time)
Can you feel the love tonight and I just cant wait to be king (Lion King)
A whole new world (Aladin)
Start of something new, Breakfree - High School Musical

Other pop duets like Numb feat Jay Z, Crazy in Love ect

There are lots more from the last few decades, and thats before you even touch on the classics.

No, stop adding to the list of GAF embarrassments.
Countless more from all decades have been mentioned.

Sonny and Cher
Kenny Rogers Dolly Parton
Mariah Carey and Boys 2 Men
Bowie and Mercury
Brightman and Bocelli
Ronstadt and Aaron Neville
Cocker and Warnes
Frank and Nancy Sinatra or Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams doing the same song.
List is vast

All are better

I knew OP couldn't be talking about NIN, so I assumed it was the Ne-Yo song. Then I see he mentions Chainsmokers and had to look it up. "LOL, it's that stolen mattress song!"

Gonna throw my hat in for "I Got You Babe", just such an iconic song.

And of course the greatest version from my childhood:
We need a chick that's got tattoos on her butt!

Is Closer the biggest duet of all time?

5 minutes ago I had never heard this song. Now that I have there are three conclusions that I've come to:
1) I'm in my late 30's, and to a millennial that probably qualifies me as a senior.
2) That song is the one of the most millennial pieces of millennial garbage that only a millennial could love. Millennial.
3) Closer is definitely not the biggest duet of all time.

I agree for the most part. I had heard the song a few times but I actually enjoy the cover version with Sarah Hyland more. So when a sitcom star can make an equal version of your song "the greatest" might not apply here.

Also the song is a mediocre pop tune that will be a perfect fit for elevators everywhere.

OP this song is embarrassing; its simplistic to the point of being infantile, it sounded dated as fuck when it came out and and no-one will even remember it 5 years from now. It's just a terrible tune that makes me cringe every time I hear it.

You need to reel in your hyperbole, you make these kind of ridiculous statements quite a lot.

It is a weird thing where a song can hit a half billion views, and nobody in my circle knows what the hell you are talking about.

For instance Bieber. I know one song by him. And it is that terrible baby song. It is like ten years old at this point.

And I do not know a single person who has ever told me to check out the Bieber album. My gay hair dresser is talking about Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry.

So this universe where Bieber is a thing, outside of GAF nobody that I interact with is a part of this.

Its future will be as background music in a scene in a future coming of age rom com as the lead finishes their kale smoothie while waiting for their uber to take them to their tinder matchs loft apartment while the target audience goes WOW! I REMEMBER THOSE! ...except who was that background music by again?
