Steam Summer Sale 2017 |OT| The Weather's Hot and the Deals are Not

I'm sure it has been on sale or in bundles before since I'm fairly sure that is how I got it. Worth full price if you ask me

Bundled, possibly. Sale, as far as I can tell, not on Steam.

Games going on sale on a regular basis have kind of spoiled us regarding the true value of a game to the point where it's reflexively thought that full price is too much, even when it's 10 bucks. Sadly, I admit I'm the same way. I use my backlog to justify it, though: I have so many unplayed games there's no point in getting one full price. There are always exceptions, but only for games that I want to go to the top of the playlist immediately. (Cook Serve Delicious 2 will be the next one.)

Played a little bit of Darkest Dungeon. Together with Dead Cells the only rogue-lite I really enjoyed. Can see myself sink quite a few hours into it.

Other than Armello, are there any worthwhile board games on steam?

Have you tried talisman? old game workshop game with a ton of characters.

I tried armello and it was nice but I think Id need people to play with to fully enjoy it. I heard it crashes a lot in multiplayer from the reviews.

Talisman is so painfully slow and boring I can't for the life of me understand why people like it.

Well, Absolute Drift is disappointing. Was expecting it to be a little more intuitive and easier to control. I know some like it isn't really clicking.

Decided to pick it up instead of Abzu since there doesn't appear to be any gameplay/general goal, though I've always admired its environments.

Just bought more games, think that's me done for this sale unless I spot something else I really want. Final haul:

I could still be tempted to buy Cryptark but not sure about it.

Twilight Struggle is really awesome! There's other stuff on Steam, but either I'm not familiar with the adaptation or I haven't actually played the original game.

Going to second Twilight Struggle. It's one of the best 1v1 boardgames out there, and despite how hardcore it looks the game is actually pretty approachable and even though the game is very deep the rules aren't all that complicated.

I would both are prime games and really should be experienced once in a while. Don't listen to those who say shit about Infinite, its the NeoGAF echo chamber at its best. They shout hate for one thing and it all piles up for no real good reason. It's truly a blast, get it if you can. Dishonored is a really fun and unique game. You won't be disappointed by either!
I agree with this. I actually enjoyed the Bioshock Infinite gameplay, zooming around and creating chaos in every arena. I loved it completely in a way most shooters don't grab me, blasting through it with every spare moment I had.

I played it after the crazy backlash too.

DLC for both BI and Dishonored is worth playing.

Interestingly, nobody among my Steam contacts owns this game. This is the first time it is discounted. It was developed by a senior game designer at Blizzard (for Hearthstone).

Other than Armello, are there any worthwhile board games on steam?

Loved Infinite. 9/10 game for me with great acting and story. I played Dishnored for an hour and just couldn't get into it. It feels like a Infinte knockoff with a really goofy and supernatural storyline. Maybe I'll again one day but it didn't grab me at all.

Dude Dishonored came out first....

these sales suck. rimworld ain't even on discount.

The creator already said that Rimworld isn't going on sale for a very long time. I'm thinking of just getting it though as the reviews for it are just stellar along with everyone saying it's not really an Early Access game at it's current state.

A couple questions for y'all:

How do people feel about the Neptunia games? Are there some decent RPG mechanics in there or is it all about creepy fanservice? Disgaea has become my favorite series due to the deep leveling mechanics so I can deal with a little of that stuff. I just want there to be a decent game underneath.

Also, I'm looking for a fighting game to try. I haven't played one since Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES. Something cheap with a decent tutorial would be nice. I'd also prefer something more methodical over needing super quick reflexes.

whats wrong with the steam version of FFVIII?
im reading you have to do a one time log in on squares site?
is it just the one time?

Two issues with the Steam version.

The SE site link up which could cause future problems if you are planning to reinstall the game (I did a backup so not sure if that will help me in the future) when trying to install the game on a different device.

If you did it with FFVII already, you wont have to do it with FFVIII (at least in my experience, its automatically applied on the same PC).

The second issue was the OST - it used the original PC port OST which was all midi though there is a fix for it in the FFVIII Steam discussion/community guides section, just had to dump the files in the OST folder and it fixed that issue.

Other than that, the game plays fine.

I clocked 50+ hours into the game (played it last year).

I started playing hyperdevotion rebirth 1 because I wanted an easy and comfy JRPG. The story isn't awful (it's not great either, but hey) and there's only been a few scenes that have been maximum anime (a little pander, mostly tongue in cheek). I'm not used to this kind of cutesy anime so I'm... getting used to it.

I like the gameplay, it's got a solid battle system but it's not bogged down in too many concurrent JRPG gameplay systems. At least so far. I hope that keeps up.

"Don't listen to the very legitimate complaints about a very flawed game" sounds more like insecurity than people having an echo chamber. You act like people who think Infinite is a bad game didn't play the same thing as you, or don't have the half a brain required to see gaping holes in its story.

So far I've picked up:
Muv Luv
Hollow Knight
Planetarian
Umihara Kawase Trilogy

Pretty solid haul. I've been eyeing Muv Luv forever so this was what I needed to push me over the edge. I missed out on Hollow Knight earlier in the year and it sounds great so I blind bought it. Seems really cool.

Not sure if I'll be getting anything else yet. Maybe I'll grab the remaining Higurashi episodes I need.

Bioshock Infinite is bad, and I say that as someone who was super hyped for it and even preordered with the season pass. It's a bad game with flawed design and hack writing to boot. If you are going to play a Bioshock game, go for 1 for the plot, or go 2 for the gameplay.

Nuh uh you can't dislike the game you paid and bought, uhhh echo chamber echo chamber echo chamber¡

I think Skullgirls is considered to have the best tutorial.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, Injustice Gods Among Us and Mortal Kombat XL all have a decent amount of single player content.

Help me choose..uhh

Right now in my cart I have:

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Rainbow Six Siege
Hollow Knight
Pit People

Any comments for or against any of those based on their sale price?

Siege is great, Hollow Knight gets a lot of praise here.

I think Binding of Isaac's gameplay and random items affecting your runs stinks, but a lot of people love it. It's definitely no Spelunky though.

I don't want to invalidate the criticisms of Infinite, but it really was my GOTY and one of he greatest games of the generation for me. I just can't connect that to people saying it's not even just overrated, that it's a bad game, if not a horrible one.

Echo chamber is a bullshit term but I really wonder what makes such a divisive split. I don't see BI hated so much anywhere but NeoGAF. Something in the water I guess.

Bioshock Infinite is a pretty fun straight ahead shooter with a storyline that almost drowns itself adhering to "rule of cool" too often. Time travel stories aren't anything to mess around with if you aren't willing to put the work in. It has a ton of scenes that work great in isolation but fall apart when taken as a whole, which is not uncommon for things that went through development hell.

Refunded Dark Souls III..

to purchase the Deluxe Edition. No regrets.

Had to get Shadow of Mordor. It was 4 measly euros.

Maybe it'll be good.

Yeah, I bought it on impulse too. Only 2 dollars here, maybe I'll play it for a few hours then it'll be worth it at least.

Have spent this weekend playing Hollow Knight(nearly finished with first playthrough). It is up there real near SoTN on the scale of Metroidvanias for me. Also the soundtrack is fantastic. Definitely worth it.

So, What goodlooking game can i buy very cheap to Check my New Computer up?

How cheap is "very cheap"?

Like someone else said above Ryse is one of the cheapest great looking games.

If you want something more recent: The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, maybe DOOM...

Yes...."make up." Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!

Also, people have the right to spend their money however they please and can choose whatever reason not to buy a game, but I've always been a believer in separating a person from his work. I'm okay with disliking a person and liking his work. (See also: Fish, Phil.)

Ahaha, well, a bit of both. I would have really liked to be able to get the two to fix up their torn relationship.

1) The gunplay is rote whack a mole FPS gunplay with skylines only barely taken advantage of, ammunition constantly given for weapons you don't have, and one of the worst implementations of Halo's shield mechanic. Talk about trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

2) It's hilarious how the game doesn't even try to hide that the choices given to you by Elizabeth don't matter. Saying that that's the whole point of the game just invalidates the decision made by a character at the end of the game.

3) The story has holes you could drive a truck through, and even aside from the ending you have a cop out with the Songbird, the lame choices up above, and this faux commentary that barely dips its toes into the racial divide. Of course, that it even tried apparently earned it plenty of brownie points.

And numerous other things:
- Bad weapon upgrade system for weapons you may barely ever actually find
- A horrible, repeated boss fight
- Elizabeth being a PEZ dispenser instead of making balanced, compelling combat
- Bland level design
- Audiologs as a way of storytelling done in the contrived way this medium always does audiologs.
- The art can look pretty, but egad at those plastic, awful looking human character models

I'm totally happy you enjoyed it. Shit, I really like the DLC, funnily enough. But the game has enough holes to claim its right in the cheese hall of fame, and that's before you go into the hilariously overrated story that got lauded because video game critics are the worst. A lot of my favorite games ever are really flawed too. The Last Guardian, yeah, the frame rate, the camera can be actual complaints. Petty complaints like "oh the animal won't listen to me" are where I draw the line about it, and in Infinite's case, I think that line, no matter how much you love it, is pretty far.

So, I've been told its worth it to pay for the full game not the $15 starter pack. Is that true? Also, aren't all of the maps free?
All of the maps are free, but it will take you over a hundred hours of grinding to unlock all of the original operators with the starter pack.
