1) If you run into what feels like framepacing/performance/stuttering issues, download/extract this DX8 wrapper and place it in the game folder - https://github.com/ThirteenAG/d3d8-wrapper/releases/tag/1.5 - make sure Direct3D8DisableMaximizedWindowedModeShim is set to 1 in the ini file. That's it.

2) If you're playing with a controller, I do recommend trying Steam's controller support and setting the Right Stick to Mouse. It makes inventory management much easier. I do have a public config up for DS4s, it should translate over to any dual analog controller.

I'm experiencing very, very, very slow download rates with steam lately. They somewhat began before summersale, but are now sometimes even 9 bytes/s , instead of the 5MB/s I should be getting. Try changing your content server region (Steam -> Settings -> Downloads). I'm in Australia but use Indonesian servers and have had no trouble maxing out my connection.

I did this and now when I run the game it keeps getting stuck as it tries to run the game; it keeps opening the 'preparing to run XN' message box then shuts down and repeats the process.

Just place the two files in the main directory and edit that one ini file. I've never tried to game on a laptop like yours, so I don't know how compatible the dx8 wrapper will be.

That means nothing. People start to fantasize about things they wanted from a game and start to hate it did not delivering. It's the good old 1-2 punch on NeoGAF. It all starts to accumulate and then, "poof" GOTY turns into the worst game of the past 20 years. It really baffles me how hivemind GAF tends to be in these cases. People can't raise a game up without knocking a couple down, it just doesn't compute with people.

Currently it's 20 dollars for year 1 characters standalone and 30 dollars for the season pass which includes year 2 characters (this comes with exclusive outfits and stuff too)

So I don't know how good the deal is but if you think you're gonna like the game I'd buy the one that comes with the dlc bundled.


In terms of balance, yeah there are a few strong dlc operators but you can still succeed with the vanilla ones just fine.

M&B: Warband has the best melee combat system ever derived. I should hope that is enough to do it.

But if not, it is also an expansive, open RPG where you pursue whatever goals you like, conquering cities and fielding huge armies. It's pretty janky, but unlike anything else out there. It also has some fabulous mods--check out the workshop or the TaleWorlds forums.

Get the floris mod if you do get it. But to sell you on it: You start the game with a created character with a backstory of your choosing, starting in the location of your choosing. From there you can do whatever the fuck you want in the sandbox. You can go around tormenting farmers as a bandit. You can become a trader, going from city to city, buying and selling for profit. You can be a defender of the people against bandits, do quests for the locals, get in good with various cities and townships so they eventually like you enough for you to lead a revolt against the warring countries, making your own faction.

You can suck up to the nobility of whatever country you want, and become their vassal, taking ownership of a fief that they bestow upon you, and then betray taking the country for your own. You can help an exile with rights of rulership over one of the game's factions take back their country. You can be a mercenary for the powers that be. You can marry into nobility.

You can do whatever the fuck you want while leveling up your character and choosing how you want to specialize them. Not to mention that every unit you recruit from farmer to levy has their own upgrade paths so you can make them an archer, spearman, swordsman, horeman, horse archer, etc. Not to mention you can recruit followers that level up the same way you do.

Now, this isn't even to talk about how good the combat is. Cause it's fucking great. Though, Mount and Blade 2 should come out this year. Or I hope so. It will. Yep. Yes. Yup.

Mount and Blade is my most played game, and one of my all time favorites. Best horse archery mechanics ever!

i played quite a bit of it. its not bad. they recently added a crafting update which makes it much more interesting (easier to set up bases). But its early access and buggy. Bases some times disappear. Not a lot of crashes these days but there are still other bugs here and there. Story stuff is not really in yet. But i personally enjoyed what i played.

Debatable at the discount it's at. I really liked the first DLC, and only kind-of enjoyed the second (which is contrary to most people, I think). I'd say if you're certain you'll enjoy Dark Souls 3, get it, because it's not any worse than the main game, but if not, leave it til you've played it a bit.

Stick with just warband and get the Floris mod(Better, more detailed base game) or Gekkojo(Japan mount and blade, early guns, no shields creates a new dynamic). Viking Conquest is OK, but I'd prefer to spend my time in the mods.

And yes weapons have impact. But it'll take you awhile to get good with them.
