Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2017 (Jun 12 - Jun 18)

Heh, that ARMS YSO prediction is the same number as last week's. Looks like they are moving their predictions upwards after the first week result.

Most of Ninokuni's ~900k western sales on PS3 were at budget pricing too, including plenty of sub $10 PSN sales. It's different from the bomba bin phenomenon in Japan but still worth noting that the game wasn't moving that much at full price anywhere.

To me Code Vein is Bamco's attempt to have their cake and eat it too. They want that millions of Souls fans in the west, but they also can't ditch the God Eater fans in Japan. The end result is something not immensely appealing to the west or east. Western gamers have to deal with the appalling art design while Japanese gamers won't get the local co-op experience they want from GE on PSP and Vita.

...This strikes me as a weird assessment given they're actually making God Eater 3.

Namco presumably just wants to stay in the Souls business, and decided that this team was the least unqualified to make a Souls style game.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
So whats the story with the next Inazuma Eleven game ?
Klab Games just released Captain Tsubasa Dream Team on mobile, played it a bit and its really good +1m download already. they are about to eat Level 5 lunch #believe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODER134kBtA

Global version will be lit. Should do quite well in Europe...lots of CT fans here.

Level 5 is strange. Feels like they announce more than they release.
Wasn't there a new Inazuma Eleven game? And some mech fame for PS4 and 3DS? Pretty sure the cancelled Layton 7.
There hasn't been a Yokai Watch 4 announcement for Japan either.

-Inazuma Eleven is supposed to release this year with a new anime of the same name to start in October.

-They announced a big multimedia project in which they teamed up were supposed to collaborate with Go Nagai and Jump, but it's vaporware now. It was supposed to release Summer 2017, but we haven't heard anything since the initial announcement.

-Fantasy Life Online still hasn't released.

-The Yokai Watch mobile port was supposed to release fall 2016, but it got delayed to early 2017 in October and we haven't heard anything since.

-Layton 7 likely became Lady Layton.

I haven't been paying attention to their other announcements to see what happened with them.

It's funny how Level 5 can't release mobile games that they announced years ago yet they are making Ni No Kuni 2 which looks pretty impressive judging form the last footage (except if Bandai is developing the game).

Layton 7 was a reskin of a card game named Warewolf I believe. It's not Professor Layton 7...it's weird

Week 26, 2017 (Jun 26 - Jul 2)

YSO predictions
01. [3DS] Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology < 35k (average 30k)
02. [NSW] Arms < 25k (average 20k)
03. [PSV] Osomatsu-San: The Game - Hang-up Finding Employment Advice - Dead or Work < 20k (average 15k)
03. [PS4] Portal Knights < 20k (average 15k)

LEGS!!!!

I really hope this game has legs. It's base gameplay is really good and polished.

It also seems like Splatoon and ARMS had a recent tournament in Japan.

Well, it can't be confirmed so I should have said likely sold most at budget price.

It did well it's first NPD (Feb 2013 at 112k) and charted well in the UK 1st week but Namco Bandai and Level 5 never gave any results for it that FY. We got the first sell-in results about 5-6 months after the first widespread US price drop (April 2013 at $39.99) and at that point it was already $19.99 in most stores and $29.99 list price on PSN. Sell-in then was ~600k in the west, with about 300k more coming in the following year when we had PSN sales for as low as $4.99.

In Japan the DS version had price collapses starting 3rd week iirc, by which point it'd already sold around 250K. LTD sales as of CY 2011 were around 550k tracked on a 600k shipment.

It's a bit weird ARMS is following the Splatoon content roll out strategy but it's much slower. Wonder if that'll have a negative effect on its legs or maybe if spacing out the content would be better.
More than a week for spectator mode doesn't sound very good while Splatoon had a new mode, stage, and weapon type in the meantime

If I recall. Some of that early stuff was already on disc for Splatoon. I could be wrong

Can you explain pls. what does the 25k YSO prediction of arms mean?
It's an estimate made by the YSO group about how many units are sold for a specific game. YSO had ARMS at 65K first week, which it beat handily, and second week at 20K-25k (before the first week Media Create was released, and now that they know ARMS did as well as it did the previous week, they have upgraded predictions such that next week will see 20k-25k, instead of last week as they predicted before knowing first week sales.

Watching the Arms tournament from the World Hobby Fair 2017 as well as my little nieces play the game - I have no doubt it would prove popular among younger kids. The lack of robust SP campaign was something a lot of people commented on but watching kids play this game has changed my mind. I think the SP is more than robust enough. Against CPU and the options of playing the GS with a partner allows a lot of accessibility to a fighting game. The motion control is actually something easy for kids 4-10 year olds to pick up.
This is why I think it should see a good boost during the summer vacation and December where more kids are able to get their hands on the Switch.

The accessibility via motion control, updates and possibly further pushes similar to World Hobby Fair 2017 by Nintendo in the future should ensure it has a lot of legs for a fighting game. Majority of fighting games lack the type of accessibility that would allow kids to get into them, and would otherwise be buried by the difficulty of getting "gud" in a fighting game. I think that's one of the main reasons the genre has sort of started to wane in popularity - games like MK, SF used to be accessible but overtime each next version more difficult to get into. Arms doesn't suffer from this barrier because there isn't really combos and it could be as simple as making flailing motions with your arms.

Namco owns Dark Souls, right? *(they don't) I imagine it might be that FROM doesn't want to do that franchise anymore but they still want that DS money.

Though I wonder where that leaves FROM. They're seemingly working on something for Switch, LKD said it was ports of the trilogy (or just 3) which could be cool. Though I imagine they've been working on something for awhile

Edit: *thanks for the clarification.

IIRC LKD never said FROM was working on anything Switch related, just that they got DS3 running satisfactorily and were considering a trilogy release for all platforms.

Can't believe it took so long to come out and now it's not getting localized. Capcom killed its sales with that and MHW's announcement.

...tho I don't think a western release would sell well after MHW

So Switch ver of MHXX is likely going to bomb due to World announcement.

Capcom's probabaly going to ditch Switch after XX bombing, and World selling decently.

Seems super low effort and should've been there at launch.
Capcom kind of did this with RE Revelations announcing 6 before it released. Hard to be excited about the latest installment when there's a bigger one coming out the same year.
Pretty big bummer.

Surprised at how low this is - how is this game doing in Japan? I'm sure digital and PC are higher but still seems low for the PS4 physical. Game not really pulling in new players?

What pisses me off is that Capcom will use low sales of MHXX as an excuse to not support Switch, when it was really them that hurt the sales.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

However, Splatoon 2 would be something to look out for whether it would lose software sales. Although that's unlikely now since Nintendo have addressed that there will be increased hardware shipments from July.

Really? Do they mean a permanent increase, or just that they'll release the stockpile they built up?

Hmm, I'll be in Japan for the Splatoon 2 launch, what are my chances of getting a hard copy of the game? I'm willing to queue.

They behave like a very reactionary company, and have acted like their own competitor on various products for many years. They chopped off the reception of Revelations at the start by releasing cheapo The Mercenaries 3D. And killed momentum for RE4 GCN by missing the holidays (by less than two weeks!) and announcing the PS2 version 'with heaps of extra stuff' before release.

Just release a game, get sales, announce the next one Capcom.

With how will the switch looks likely to sell I don't think capcom is going to ignore it. They might be a little late to the market but no way will they ignore the next potential 20+ million audience console in Japan.

I'm referring to this:

Nintendo apologize about stock shortage, more shipment in july + august planned, production ramped up in fall

Machine translation:
Currently, we continue to ship every week, we are working to deliver more than one product to customers. Also, in July and August, we will increase shipment volume this month, including continued shipment of "Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 set".

For autumn and beyond, we will continue to work to ensure that as many products as possible can be delivered to our customers towards the end of the year, such as further strengthening our production system, we appreciate your understanding.

Don't forget how huge it will be in South East Asia and South America too lol.^^ BOLA BOLA BOLA.^^

Don't know what to make of this. Assuming the game opens at 30k-35k it's basically the same op the original game on DS had (34,084 for the first week).

I think that is literally one of the best result they can hope for lol. It means that the series had a the same dedicated fans which will keep supporting the series there.^^ And it all depend whether more people would try to get the game in the upcoming weeks.^^

Thanks. Yeah, sounds like they're releasing the stockpile in July+August, and production increases won't come through until later this year. But that's not so bad, considering I was worried the production boost might not happen until 2018, based on what we'd heard about the NAND situation.

They won't, don't be silly. I doubt they have high projects for this either because the purpose of the port is likely just to throw Switch owners who expected a shiny new MH for their system a bone while they work on World and the other game.

Revelations had a couple issues leading into launch like the price increase, Mercenaries save file debacle, RE6. Still remember it. Resulted in console ports and console exclusive sequels

I doubt you'd have any problem getting it but the Japanese version of the game will only be in Japanese I believe. No other languages on the Japanese cart or download. That's what has stopped me from getting a physical JP version.

No problem then! I'll be doing the same after launch when I'm in Japan, a lot of people don't know and have been cancelling pre-orders though.
