Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

I'm just salty DRG got phlebotimize taken away and that gier is on a 35s CD. Granted the job would probably be much closer to SAM in DPS if they hadn't done that, but that just shows how much they had to edge out other DPS jobs for the sake of SAM and RDM.

Maybe try another class until <class x> is fixed?

BLM is literally only the best ever. Just sayin' /plug

I have actually decided to just level all the Caster classes at this point.

At least when I get bored with SMN, I can just bounce to RDM and BLM, now that the latter has changed around its Enochian shit.

Discussion of balance, job changes, and negatives alongside that isn't inherently bitching any more than saying positive things about dungeons is mindless fawning. Much like I scroll past giant deep dives into lore I don't find compelling, I fully expect most people scroll past most of my insane edge-case nerding out or compare/contrast of job balance or my perpetual confusion at SB MCH on every level. It's interesting discussion and some of what comes out of it is worth discussion to people who find game systems compelling.

Which isn't most people. Which is cool.

right now i'm debating between leveling my 60 ast to 70 or trying out rdm and i am pushed more and more to ast every single time i try to queue for anything as rdm

I'm 9 Susano tokens and like three EXDRs from having three i314 70s (which I feel like will trigger "stop rushing the game just so you can bitch about no content" lectures but hey,) and finally being able to go dink around on stuff I don't tentatively need to have raid-ready which will be exciting. I was hoping to have the srs behind me by this point but EA woes. It's been interesting to see how things stack up and translate the theoretical to the practical; the changes between the hypothetical tank performance and the in-person tank performances has been the biggest personal surprise.

I think at this point I'm leveling healers forever to repay queue carries but since nobody expects me to raid on WHM I'll get to just enjoy the fun bits and not care about the dumb stuff.

- They messed up monk to an extent I'd say they had the worst SB reboot if Machinist didn't exist. They lost a lot to make room for SAM but at least their core mechanic still exists.
How? It seems like most of our core tools are still here. Our 8 combo attacks, our stacks, our oGCD AOE's and our gapcloser/steel peak. I'm pretty much playing the class exactly how I played it before, minus TOD/BFB, plus all the new stuff. Yeah, some of our new abilities seem poorly thought out (tackle mastery/FOF/gating stuff behind RNG) but those feel like additions to a core system that was already in place, not a complete overhaul by any means.

I'm kinda curious... are there any jobs that don't seem busted/underpowered right now? I've seen complaints about just about every job and I'm beginning to think a lot of them are people being in the adjustment phase. The only two that I haven't seen bitching about are SAM and RDM.

@70? PLD (DRK to an extent), AST, SAM, NIN, BLM, RDM; everything else has some level of "my shit don't work / make sense" or "this doesn't seem as fun" or "why do you hate Machinists?" going on to them. Not that they're all perfect but it's QoL or otherwise smaller sticking points in the grand scheme of things. BRD maybe but it exists in that weird spot of they got punted down an entire level of DPS but the support isn't quite there to match anymore to warrant it.

Putting tanks in there despite the STR / accessory / Tenacity debacle since kit-wise they're more-or-less fine. DRK as an extent is simply out of how bad 60-70 is for their design (we'll take 10 levels for your meter and related mechanics to be usable but based all your gameplay loops on having them!); their @70 feels very functional and they have a lot of MT/OT utility.

They went from the comp independent job* with the personal edge in DPS with minimal RNG to being highly dependent on their comp and RNG to make up for their lowered personal DPS; Monk plays mostly the same but how it's balanced against everything else is very much now attributed to Samurai and Monk was made into this weird unity / self-skewed utility while getting Bard BL resets as a core mechanic.

Monk is a lot like WHM? If you liked MNK at 60, you'll probably like MNK at 70. They just gave you new stuff to access via RNG and curbed some power because of it. And then made the new DPS do your old thing but better.

*Barring the whole "if DRK, DK loses value" and "No threat management so demands a NIN" parts of old MNK.

I got an idea.

When Blackest Night shield is broken, Blood Weapon cooldown is reset.

Personally, I think it's fine as is as MP->Blood. ~22 or so potency loss per vs just expending it as a DA but coming from 3.X WAR perspective of "I don't get to BB most the time" it's acceptable as a "I hope someone else gains a GCD off of this" thing; plus, eventually gear carry means it fades from use outside of maybe getting to use phase transitions as a way to eat ultimates to prep 50 Blood. I do wish it was 10s, not 5s, or at least gave blood on expiring or literally anything to not make me go "WHAT THE SHIT HIT ME HARDER" when it gets down to 1-0s remaining.

That and making Dark Wall 120s instead of 180s, or mini-Blood Price built-in or anything at all, is about the extent of my DRK wants personally? 3m Dark Wall just feels awful compared to Vengeance (30%+reta @120s) or Sentinel (40% @ 180s).

Both aren't the end of the world but, y'know, would be really nice. At least the TBN to make it feel less punishing when you take less damage than you were expecting to :|

Blackest Night can't break if I AB hard enough.

This is mostly it for me--MCH gets the WTF for the tier because it's both bad (which didn't exactly deter me in 3.0) and completely unrecognizable; monk at least has the preserved job core, but their actual place in the game is pretty different and a chunk of the identity just got moved with no real clear direction.

Much like AST being OP doesn't prevent it from being fun, I'm not trying to indicate that newMonk doesn't have a satisfying core gameplay loop, but from a job balance perspective what happened to monk doesn't make a ton of sense.

Alright, we're only on ex primals and me and my co tank are already at it arguing. I'll frame this ambiguously:

Thoughts on Shirk? Should it be taken into 8 man content? If so, MT, OT, or both?

Shirk is godlike; considering the amount of tank busters that are long channels, it allows for pretty smooth OT Provoke during cast, MT Shirk after and everyone goes off and does their own thing while the threat generation gap is more-or-less handled through Shirk rather than actual enmity combos. Hell, it's the easy way to do Lakshmi's OT mechanic; OT Provoke+Shirk during her tankbuster cast and guarantee second threat constantly.

Basically, in a tank swap scenario, it guarantees smooth swaps with both parties never changing a single GCD. In a solo tank scenario, it's a 2 minute gain 25% threat for the MT cooldown. Nothing really compares with either out of the role actions that isn't super limited in scope (Stun / Silence is case-by-case, Anticipation is eh, Awareness basically requires high/100% incoming crits to warrant even for WAR with Raw Intuition use, etc.).

I know it's fine as is I'm just thinking of random crazy things.

It's unfortunate but TBN is kind of one of the only abilities in the game that I want more of. That is tanking moves that provide a reward for using them correctly, as opposed to what we have a lot of which is "take X reduced damage for Y duration" which is boring imo in terms of engagement.

In terms of DPS, SMN feels weak but apparently the gains from DWT and Bahamut are huge, so it may even out with BLM despite how a lot of the AoE got gutted. The biggest problem is that the class just feels kinda clunky at the moment. Bahamut is responsive for the most part, but he is a very temperamental dragon and hates to move and attack despite how he can hit things from a football field away. If they made it so he can use his shockwave easier while moving (seems like you have to move in just the perfect way for him to attack while moving), that would alleviate some issues with him.

Juxtapose this with how your normal pets for some reason are still clunky as fuck to control (4 years later, you will still be mashing the shit out of the Contagion button and it won't go off). Aetherflow is still weird and can lead to situations where a single fat finger can screw your DPS for 1 or 2 full minutes.

Playing the class at anything below 60 is just painful now with the changes.

Also,I haven't seen too many fancy hats yet for RDM, so hopefully that gets addressed. Being depressed when looking at my character is costing me DPS. Damn bards have all the nice hats.

It's honestly insulting that BRDs have all the nice fancy hats and not RDM. I know it's because RDM is sharing Caster gear with SMN and BLM so has the traditional style witches hat, but like, c'mon, let RDM glamour some of those nice BRD hats, or at least introduce them as recoloured Caster gear.

Would summoning be more fun if all the current summons were turned into temporary Bahamut-Egi type summons?

Bahamut-Egi looks pretty cool.

Where as all the other Egis look like disappointment given form.

Ive mostly been using the pvp gear with the fox mask which is pretty cool, I just wish my hair didn't clip through it.

I can't be the only one who thinks the Susano EX weapons are pretty darn ugly.
It took me forever to get a PF group who could clear it reliably, but i guess the journey is worth the effort.

Susano's weapons remind me of Sophia's and Zurvan's as "please be excited for eventual blinding glamour versions."

There's an undraw button to clear off the currently-drawn card though, which thank god, because having to enable virtual mouse mode on a controller and right-click a card off to get the Draw counter going again was a pain in the ass.

I missed this earlier, but you used to be able to use a DIY macro to /statusoff cards to replicate the Undraw effect (and set up similar macros for RR and Spread, useful for when you want to single-target a card you drew and needed to get rid of an AOE RR), or just select/touchpad click around to the buff bar and click off that way just like with emergency de-Blood for Blooding. Manual mouse mode would have been awful.

I would bet dollars to donuts that this is likely what is going to happen come 5.0.

They can't get rid of egis outright because story reasons, but I could see 30-60 involve rotating the 3 egis for various stuff, 60 be more focused on adding DWT to the mix, and 70 beyond being more notable summons. Might make it more FF11 in this respect, dunno.

DRG's LotD is really a garbage ability. Takes almost two minutes to use, and if BotD falls off you start all over and gain nothing.

Like, I get that it'd be a pain to figure out when to retain dragon eyes and when to hide the bar, but maybe they should change it to three eyes instead of four.

Geirskogul having such a long CD meaning you have to wait to be able to trigger LotD is also pretty bad design.

When ERP goes wrong?

So apparently a bit headache in a big pop server like Balmung is the queue system right now. Apparently people are using tricks to stay online even when afk for hours.

Are they doing this for selfish convenience or are they seriously doing it for the ERP of their player? "People need to know my character is sleeping in game!"

one thing that has to be explained; the log in servers are different from the servers used to play the game. large log in queues are mostly caused by a large amount of people all trying to log in at the same time. thats what causes the long queue. people already on the game have a minimal affect on that, although they do have an affect on it, and thats why the auto kick is put in place. there was a thread on the official forums that broke it down, but its from years ago and I cant find it.

I wouldnt be surprised if people are doing it for ERP tho

I've leveled PLD and BRD to 70 and now can't decide which job I wanna grind out next. Probably should go with a healer just to round it out but I did finally get around to trying out SAM and it's very fun. I can see why there's a bunch of SAM running around, the job just feels good to play and I'm only level 51. Those dps queues though.

Darkness no more
I think they fixed DR:Trials where you can't take all your gear off any more when queueing to get a lower level trial. I took off most of my stuff to drop to around i150 and still got Susano :(

Those on PS4 pro, is frame rate constant 60? Thinking of playing on PS4 instead since I play with controller anyway and my PC only gets around 40-50 fps.

Hmm, soo apparently how you use Shirk as an OT is to provoke the boss then immediately shirk the MT so you give it back to them +25%.

Before I figured you would just use it plainly but this way makes more sense for a larger amount of threat transfer.

Absolutely loving my current set up on PS4.

Using the PS4 version of this, I put everything quickly used on a single crossbar.
I separately created a single hotbar and put all my cooldowns on it and then bound all my cooldowns to #1-8 on the kepad.

I see lots of chat pads on Amazon. Is there one that's a cut above the rest?

I know my big hands probably wouldn't be able to type with one of these comfortably, but considering the convenience of having this directly connected to the controller (and I assume you can use both the keys on it as well as a Cross Media Bar simultaneously when playing FFXIV?) makes it hard to ignore.

Finished nolifing Monk to 70. Thoughts:

Potency Nerfs: Why
Deep Meditation: Good. Yeah, maybe it doesn't proc as often as you'd like, but I'm just glad that we have more ways to build chakra. Synergizes well with Internal Release, which is cool.
Riddle of Earth: Taking totally avoidable damage to maintain GL has long been a core tenet of the MNK playstyle. Now we can do it even when we're not near the boss!
Tackle Mastery: Why
Riddle of Fire: The real riddle of fire is how come the guy who decided that we should lose our speed to use this buff hasn't been "fire"d yet. This completely screws with my muscle memory, and I would have gladly opted for a weaker buff that kept the job's flow intact. I've almost lost GL because I thought I used Snap/Demolish, when really I just hit the button during the oGCD period and moved on to start a new combo.
Brotherhood: Awesome animation, but super underwhelming. Doesn't affect yourself, so if you have a caster DPS in an EXDR you're only giving a small buff to the tank's damage, which is good, but not good enough. The 30% chakra proc chance (again, almost worthless if you don't have another physical DPS) is also really low.

Not really feeling the job atm. :(

None of the bard's buffs affect the bard themselves, which is a completely baffling and pointless decision.

Oh jeez, I didn't know that. What the hell? Why do they hate Bard DPS?

I mean, the job is fun to play with the overhaul, don't get me wrong. But it'd be nice to be competitive with the other DPS jobs.

Just finished the MSQ. I really loved this expansion.

The dragoon job gear is sexy. I'll be able to check out 310 gear now and see what it looks like. Hoping to give Sus EX a shot. I want dem mounts.

I think they are all about the same quality generally the one I have is by "Collective Minds".
Its pretty good and can charge your controller at least.

Yes you can map literally all 40+ buttons if you want in addition to the Crossbar's 16.
Actually the buttons are decent sized and well spaced, I used to hate small numbers on phones but no issue with these.
Only about the bottom row is awkward in a normal controller grip.

Im really glad I thought of using it when I was trying to figure macros instead.
So much better than flipping between crossbar pages as well.

Not only the offensive buffs, but even the defensive buffs as well which is mind boggling to me. When would you want to grant damage reduction to all 7 other people in your party but not also want yourself to get that same benefit? Seems like the most egregious oversight to me.

But yea, it really is too bad, since in terms of pure FUN Bard is one of my favorites.

I switched to Samurai from Red Mage and leveled up to 68 in dungeons and I'm having alot of fun again taking a break from MSQ was really refreshing.

Man they really stepped all over DRG with the BFB and Disembowel nerfs. Sure, they upped potency, but the buffs didn't outweigh the huge losses.

Definitely expecting some balance changes to this class, because it's on the lower end right now.
