Hamilton has definitely upped his strategic game. He was drumming up the Vettel incident in all the right ways to maximize the pressure. Also his request to have Bottas back up Vettel just struck me as a thing that Alonso would do.

Key for me was that it really was a request. It wasn't "make him slow him down" like it would have been in the Schumi years.

Rosberg didn't do shit. Hamilton wined up himself the same way he did in 2011.

Fail to see anyone not getting frustrated and wound up when of the 40+ Mercedes engines used that year I think only his exploded, something Mercedes kept saying wasn't his fault, despite armchair claims to the contrary.

-Circumstances aside, I continue to be impressed with Ocon. I wanted him to battle a little more at the end of the race but he was way outclassed.

Ocon has been consistent if anything but is down 7-1 in the qualify head to head with Perez and also finished behind him in every race except Monaco (Perez screwed himself up) and Baku where he wrecked him.

Any thoughts on what was going on with the Mercs on the final straight?

Bottas caught Stroll by over a second (at least so someone claimed) and Hamilton was way faster than Vettel as well and nearly got him, after failing to catch him for many laps.

Quite possibly both saved all their battery for the final push and turned the engine to 11.

"fun" fact: Red Bull Racing is currently the team with the least amount of completed race laps.

Laps per team:
1. Force India- 956
2. Mercedes- 946
3. Ferrari- 903
4. Sauber- 829
5. Haas F1- 809
6. Toro Rosso- 749
7. Williams- 745
8. Renault- 738
9. McLaren- 716
10. Red Bull- 685

They probably just saved the ERS until the final straight as they knew that would be their best chance.

edit: As DBT85 said.

I like drivers with a spine. It looked bad to all the audience who think they are watching the politically correct tv show, but Vettel put Ham in its place. Never lift when exiting a corner. Once you commit to a corner you cannot slow down fast enough if the car in front lifts.

None of those two crybabies are angels. There was shitty intentions by Ham followed by a shitty comeback by Vettel. And it was great. Learn to love it, this isn't sunday school.

Oh please fuck off with that 'politically correct' bullshit people use for literally anything now.

Surely Stroll/Vettel would have done the same though? And why wouldn't Hamilton have done it before the final lap?

Wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes get more from the engine than Williams do.

As to why Hamilton couldn't do it the lap before, I'm not sure. I seem to recall drivers saving it up over a period longer than 1 lap before too. Can't recall if the battery can be 100% juiced from one normal racing lap or not.

Did the exact same thing on every restart and nobody had a problem till Vettel drove in to him lol. You want to put him in his place, lamp him one when you get to the pits.

But you know, the stewards, fia, ex drivers, current drivers and fans with eyes are all biased anyway.

lol I dont what you guys read in my post, but I meant I dont like it when you expect drivers to be saints. this isn't disney channel.

Yeah, although if he said "addicted to being outraged" instead I think he would have made a very fair point.
I don't mind the drama. There's gotta be some to make stuff interesting, but putting what HAM did and VET did on the same level is nonsense.

Agreed. It's excitement and drama in a boring season. Hope they both continue to be cunts.

He was already throwing tantrums before those engines started to blow. He threatened to quit after Barcelona before realizing he had no leverage.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I think I'd add Massa to the list, too.

(And, if we go away from the current season, absolutely Webber, Button and Coulthard)

I reckon Button would be a right cunt to have a drink with. An obsessive pisstaker.

Clumsy control of the car, uncalculating, avoiding questions and stammering afterwards - yeah, sure put Hamilton in his place.

Make no mistake, Hamilton came out of this race very much on top, despite the result.

I'd also add Palmer. Not because he's any good but because it's likely he won't be in F1 for very much longer so there wouldn't be another chance!

The difference is that Stroll and Vettel probably had to use it round the lap to try and keep Bottas/Hamilton behind them in the second DRS zone.

Plus, they were probably allowed to whack the engine up to full for that last bit. Given a combination of that, KERS and DRS it's not surprising they caught up as much as they did.

I dont care who did what, both were cunts in their way and I want more of it.

Muppet. You dont strike a fellow sportsman in any situation, especially if that situation involves driving fucking cars. If it were any other sport outside of fighting, it would be a red card/ban ect.

The pit wall at Mercedes was probably like, "okay, you can turn on qualifying mode for JUST the last lap, just to prove a point and remind Ferrari that we own their souls." Vettel was faster in sector 2 which meant Hamilton could never get all that close, barely staying in DRS range at the detection point.

If Mercedes wins the WCC by 3 points Bottas gets bonus props for this. Thankfully it didn't kick Stroll off the podium. That would have sucked. I don't really care for the guy's rapid promotions, but I've got way more respect for him now, and he was entertaining as hell on the podium. You can argue he didn't have an exceptional driving performance of any kind, but he and KMag were probably the only two cars in the entire field that didn't have any contact or damage the entire race, so naturally they end up in better positions. Outlasting and outsmarting the field is a perfectly valid tactic in F1. This helped make up for the general lack of attrition this year overall. The only thing more entertaining would have been if Vettel took both himself and Hamilton out.

I didn't notice that Germany wasn't on the calendar! 20 races is a good number, though. An averaged out one race every 2 weeks other than the 3-month winter break feels okay. It's super weird for the current dominant multi-time defending constructor's champions to not have a home race. Hockenheim would have been a good track for Ferrari, with the number of heavy traction events. Without it, only 1 of the next 5 races to finish out the European leg---Hungary--Would seem to favor them. This is going to come down to Bottas being a more reliable #2 driver than Kimi in terms of just trying to throw up as many extra points as possible and keeping drama to a minimum, more likely than not.

An aside, but the F1 2017 mod in Motorsport Manager is so savage to Honda. I took McLaren for fun, and despite the ranked 4th best car, 3rd best drivers, best infrastructure and best staff in a season 2 team I inherited I can barely clear Q1, lol. I get interview questions about the engine as my token PR thing every single race.

I like drivers with a spine.

You want to see drivers with a spine watch Webber take Alonso whilst heading through Eau Rouge or Hakkinen taking Schumacher at Spa by ducking down the outside of Zonta.

There was nothing brave about Vettel sideswiping Hamilton, it didn't take any courage or 'balls' to clip another driver.

Yeah, this. It was petty. And it didn't even work, he still blitzed him at the restart.

Oh god, just thinking about that Eau Rouge move gives me goosebumps.

I'm sorry do I know you? watch the language.

If you dont agree with someone else on the internet, then dont agree, politely. Unlike racing, here we do need education.

Can call people cunts, can't be called a muppet. Noted.

sure thats what happened.

I actually zeroed down the issue with my post. Its tone was against ham. Noted!

They were both dicks I stand by what I said. I want more cockfights instead of "year sir please after you."

To be honest I love the drama. I especially love it when it's two drivers I'll be glad to never see win a race again that suffers from it. I super duper extra love it when it results in Danny Ric benefitting from it.

But I'm not going to say Vettel was showing a spine when he did his move. It's more stupid than anything else and he deserves no praise for it. Though I also totally want him to keep doing stupid shit because it's fun.

Both were cunts except for the guy that didn't do anything.

Yup. Telemetry passed to the stewards showed that Hamilton did nothing wrong so I'm not really sure how anyone can point a finger at him with a straight face.

They're behind a safety car. The lead driver can go as fast or slow as he likes. At no point did he brake test Vettel, and that's an undisputed fact backed up by evidence. There's a lot that drivers can do during the SC period to improve their prospects later in the race whether it's going slower to save tyre life, turning down the engine to save fuel for the end, dabbing brakes to keep them warm etc and Vettel should know that.

Above all else, this is so true. We should relish this. Some people talking about Seb like he just attacked their son.

I think the part where using your vehicle as a weapon on having the propensity to do so because of your OWN fuck up isn't really something I want to see.......

Giving people the green light for ramming people at low speed, also allows it at high speed.

The fact that even after the rage has dissipated, Vettel won't even admit that what he did even happened, shows that we shouldn't be standing for it.

Babies driving their cars into people in fits of rage isn't exciting racing.

Can I also add that Coulthards and Mcnishs comments post race were so lacking backbone as to be laughable. "we don't know he did it on purpose, he might have damaged his car, I can't believe he would do that". Just lol.

Then shouldn't Hamilton have done it a lap earlier when he would have had the whole straight?

Then Vettel would have had the next lap to try the same as he'd have been fairly close and the Ferrari seems to cope with dirty air a bit better.

If you overtake on the finish line you can't then lose it.
