Do you think VC on Switch will come out this year?

Not a peep at e3.

Wondering if we'll end up having to wait until next year for VC with the SNES classic being announced.

Really surprising it's taking so long to be honest.

Given the success of the mini consoles, I'm getting wary of if Nintendo is going to do it any time soon.

No and I'm kinda pissed to be honest. No reason I should have to try and pray to God I can get a SNES Classic when I already paid $300 for this brand new capable device from Nintendo that I could play retro games on.

Six-month gap between the Wii U's launch and the Virtual Console launch, so if we don't see anything by the second week of September, then you can start speculating.

It's kinda funny thinking back to the late 90s when practically everyone was ditching their old hardware for the new shiny 3D gaming and now we have folks angry that they can't play 30+ year old games on their new hardware.

That would be awesome, but it should have been here already, no question about that.

I have low expectations though.

I'm not sure. Could it? Sure, they were planning on releasing the NES and SNES games as part of the service this year. But with that delayed I'm not sure if they'd push the VC back.

Not really necessary this year, tho. They might save it for early next year like January or something

It seems dumb to not have the same package of SNES classic games available on the Switch to buy. Hell they can just charge $80 for the entire bundle of games and folks would jump in.

I have zero interest in buying the SNES classic but if those games were on VC on my Switch I would buy a lot of them.

Is the system going to have a real, stand alone Virtual Console? I got the impression that their on demand service when online goes live in 2018 was a replacement for the Virtual Console.

I'm starting to wonder if they're forgoing a VC entirely for this generation and just doing subscription thing + periodic minis

No. (Paid) Online servicrs were postponed for 2018. I am assuming their netflix like vc platform will be part of it. As a stop gag here's Snes mini with Star Fox 2. It's very possible that the reason for Snes mini sale-production window of December of 2017 is to not clash or fatigue the Switch VC sales

That Polygon article had an interesting point about entertainment services.

There are features that Nintendo is specifically prioritizing, Fils-Aime said, that he knows consumers expect. Those include voice chat, but also entertainment services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, which he said Nintendo “recognizes are important for a device you can take with you.”

The article mentioned that they delayed the full online service because they were prioritising these features (voice chat and entertainment).

Anyone else thinking a big firmware update in the Autumn / run up to christmas with Netflix / Amazon etc? I reckon it's a possibility.

VC is dead. Classic nintendo systems killed them.

The Snes classics is a proof of that. Nes classic came with more games and better price. Now its more expensive and less games.

Nintendo will keep the vault closed, so they can release these games from time to time to capitalize on nostalgia.

Want Vc?! Buy 3ds and Wii U now, before its over...

I don't see limited run novelty items killing anything.

Now the online subscription service...

Not really.

They will probably focus on the retro games for their subscription service
This. Between these announcements and the complete radio silence on any other form of VC I'm starting to think sub games and the Classic console series is all we're getting. Kind of disappointing, but tbh I have plenty of boxes that play ROMs already, lol.

I would be surprised if it launched this year, considering that they want to improve the stock of SNES classic units.

Yep, same here. If I find a SNES Classic out there in the wild, I'll probably pick one up, but I would be much more compelled by digital offerings on Switch.

What Nintendo should do is release VC and offer the 21 SNES games of the SNES mini in a package for 70€ or something on Switch. As a time limited offer. Switch owners are happy and more people could get a SNES mini.

That would be really odd since sales of those classic mini consoles are limited.

Yes

so when people cannot find the SNES classic in stores, retail peeps can tell them the Switch can play those games on the VC

Probably not and it bums me out. There's a lot of GBA games in the Wii U's VC library that I'd like to play on the Switch instead.

Nah think it's something they'll use the SNES mini to lead in to for next year. "Now you can buy Star Fox 2 on Switch for $9.99" sorta thing.

VC is dead as we knew it. VC will probably be their service from now on.

It will also probably suck. =/

This is right where I'm at. There is no way we are hearing about VC until they are done with the SNES classic and that will be in 2018. Stupid. I'd rather have that stuff portable than own a bunch of mini consoles. How much space do they think I have around my tv? Make it available all in one place. The new $300 system that doubles as a portable.

Just in time for the N64 Classic Mini to be announced and for Nintendo to continue stalling the VC for Switch.
If this is what comes to pass I'll be doubly pissed. If you're gonna cocktease me with retro consoles atleast don't make them bloody limited run.
