COMICS!!! |OT| July 2017 | Princess, I've Seen the Way You Look At Me.

Amazing Spider-Man:
K. I love Superior Spidey. Like, really. I do. But this is getting a little too stacked on Doc's favor. Like, seeeeriously crazy. Peter's not supposed to have the answers and methods and the advantage, I get it. But come on.

Secret Warriors:
Evil Deadpool is dumb and the excuse is even worse. Also giving Lunella time in the spotlight was nice, but what's up with that ending? Did I miss some issues or something? Who was the
kid at the end? How did he knock her out?

Spider Men II:
YOOOOOOOO
I'm in. That's EXACTLY what I wanted to see from this run.
Also, the hell is wrong with Peter in this? God damn, switches from "everything's good" to "too dangerous/shouldn't be Spider-Man/etc."

The current stories with Peter are seriously making me miss the Ultimate run.
This dude is just so annoying/out-of-character for so many of them.

Gah can't make up my mind but I think a good option would be get the 2017 iPad since I could get the 32GB for nearly free with my gift cards in which case I can wait for fall for hopefully a sale. Then for school I'll get an xps 13 or something. Looked into the surface and after some thinking I really just want a tablet for fun. Also any reason to spring for a 128gb or do comics not take up alot of room?. I have a mountain of comics waiting thanks to that absurd Amazon sale.

And going off wirecutter yeah I really can't justify all that added power for what I'll be using it for. http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-ipad-is-the-best-tablet/

I also use the iPad Air 2 and it's pretty wonderful. But I read everything in guided view so I really don't need the extra screen size.

Duggan is killing it in the Deadpool Secret Empire tie-ins. He's done a good job showing why Deadpool would work with Hydra, the effect it has on him, and is setting up the direction of the book afterwards.

Edge of the Venomverse #1 and #2 were both good. Irene Strychalski did a really good job on the Gwenpool story and needs to be given more work. I recommend the stories to fans of the respective characters. Gwen and
Daredevil
is the new pairing that needs to happen.

The next one will be Robbie Reyes by Spurrier, so I'll be checking that one out as well.

Do I need to catch up with Miles' current run to understand Spider-Men II or is that completely separate?

That's the main problem when Slott is writing a story that features Otto.

Cool, thanks.

I stopped reading his run when Black Cat showed up but I really wanna get back to it at some point.

After that it got pulled into Civil War II a bit and then had a Spider-Gwen cross over, and it's finally starting to get to be it's own book again.

Messi, if you'd like to provide a link in future OTs, I think it could be interesting/convenient to have everyone's favorites all listed in one place. If you ever find that your tastes align with someone, you can check what else they really liked.
I'm not very good at ranking favorites but:
Young Avengers (Gillen/McKelvie)
Ultimate Spider-Man
Runaways
Immortal Iron Fist
Hawkeye
Astonishing X-Men
Vision
Books/Runs that are still on going, but are probably on the list:
Giant Days
Aaron's Thor run
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Astonishing X-Men (Whedon)
Locke & Key
Kingdom Come
Secret Six (Simone; 2008)
X-Men (1991) #188-199, Annual #1 (this is the first chunk of Mike Carey's run, which is all absolute perfection)
There are more than likely enough to make a top 10, but those came off the top of my head, so that's what's sticking for now. Like, for example, there are runs I could say are my favorites, but I haven't finished them, so I can't say that for sure. Such as Nightwing (Dixon) and X-Men (Mike Carey). There's also plenty of ongoings like I Hate Fairyland, Rat Queens, Detective Comics, Superman, and ROM that I'd put up there, but since they're ongoings I feel like that'd be cheating.

I forgot to post my own. No order.
Scott Pilgrim
Super Mutant Magic Academy
Giant Days
Vision
Teen Titans (Geoff Johns)
Prophet
Criminal
Uncanny X-Force or Astonishing X-Men or some old Uncanny X-men... I love X-men, though.
Favorite ongoing:
Giant Days
Kill or be Killed
Black Monday Murders
Southern Bastards
Monstress
Deadly Class
Gwenpool
Gotham Academy
There are still a lot of great comics I haven't read, so I kinda feel like a chump writing up that list.
Sunstone
Strangers in Paradise
Y The Last Man
Saga
Deadly Class
Low
Shutter
Brubaker Catwoman
Aaron's Thor
Harley Quinn by Palmiotti and Conner
That was harder than I thought. Image comics and companies like them changed how I viewed comics and what they could be. I thought it was all superheroes but it turns out companies like image were just telling incredible stories. But also some big two runs need to feature such as Bru Catwoman
Locke and Key
Planetary
Daredevil (Bendis)
Green Arrow (Lemire)
Punisher MAX
Hawkeye (Fraction)
The Metabarons
Does New Frontier count? Does Cooke's Parker Adaptations?
Hellboy
BPRD
Sweet Tooth
Unknown Soldier (2008 version)
Scalped
Umbrella Academy
Newer favourites:
Vision/Omega Men
The Spire
I'm usually pathetic at capping these lists off without a ton of caveats and alsos but I think I did okay
Age of Apocalypse
Exiles
New X-Men (04)
X-Factor Investigations
The Runaways
Superior Foes of Spider-Man
Annihilation
Annihilation Conquest
War of Kings
Thanos Imperative
Without having my comic shelves in front of me its actually really tough to remember all the series I've read, but a few from the top of my head:
Y The Last Man
Saga
Transmetropolitan (This ones a funny one for me, I absolutely love most of it but theres one part in the series that sours it for me a little bit)
Ultimate Spider-man
Bendis Daredevil
Vision
Young Justice
Teen Titans
Xmen early 90,s (I've real nostalgia for the 90,s xmen as it was my start in comics so any x-series around this time)
Maddox
I'm sure theres some series I love that I'm forgetting but those are off the top of my head at work
Oh dear, this is always so hard. Gonna try to do this without looking at my shelf
Saga
Fables
Hawkeye
Y: The Last Man
Immortal Iron Fist
Captain America (Brubaker)
Runaways
Planetary
Daredevil (Waid...Bendis was dope too...and Brubaker...ALL OF THEM!)
Most of the books I've picked are quite recent as I haven't read a huge amount of older books, apart from Spider-Man and some old Avengers runs.
Avengers/New Avengers/Secret Wars (Hickman) - I still need to read his FF run
Batman/Batman and Robin (Morrison)
Daredevil (Waid/Samnee)
Daredevil (Miller)
Darth Vader (Gillen)
Saga (Vaughan)
Thor (Aaron)
Ultimate Spider-Man (Bendis)
Vision (King)
Wonder Woman (Rucka) - I'd probably lump his Rebirth run with it as well.
Fixtures in my top 10.
Sandman
Planetary
Astro City
Transmetropolitan
Other series keep entering and leaving my top ten based on how I feel.
Usagi Yojimbo
Simonson Thor
Morrison Doom Patrol
Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
Sandman Mystery Theatre
One Piece
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Love & Rockets (Jaime)
I probably won't get all of them, but..
Planetary
Doom Patrol
Fear Agent
Batman & Robin (Morrison)
Batman: The Black Mirror
DC: The New Frontier
The Valiant
Harbinger
Gotham Central
Essex County
Nextwave
Preacher
Just getting into comics recently, but here is what I've really liked thus far:
Captain America (Brubaker)
Vision (King)
Thor (Aaron)
Saga (Vaughan)
I don't know if I can name ten, but what comes immediately to mind for me:
Byrne's Fantastic Four
Busiek's Avengers and Busiek & Nicieza's Thunderbolts
All of Abnett/Lanning cosmic
Hickman's Marvel run, starting in Secret Warriors
Priest's Black Panther
Grant Morrison Animal Man
Jack Kirby Fourth World
Geoff Johns Green Lantern
Chris Claremont X-Men
Planetary
Hellboy
Doom Patrol
Hellboy
BPRD
Batman Inc.
Power Girl
Love & Rockets (Locas)
Daredevil (Miller)
Hawkeye (Fraction)
X-Force/X-Statix
Beyond that, I'd have to do some more serious thinking. Was leaning towards Megg and Mogg for a tenth.
Gonna include everything, like the stuff I loved as a kid/teen/young creature, too.
Archie (especially stories featuring the old-school art or little Archie)
Calvin and Hobbes
Byrne's She-Hulk (first superhero comic/floppy I ever read and loved. I had a subscription!)
Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (teen angst mode. I thought it was freaking hilarious)
The Walking Dead (comic that pulled me back in my 30's. Read full volumes in one sitting sometimes running back to the store after finishing)
Sweet Tooth (shouldn't be including this as I have yet to finish it, but I love the volumes I've read SO MUCH)
Gotham Central
Blammo (angsty indie goodness)
Optic Nerve
And, unless it deteriorates greatly, Paper Girls
My top 10:
-DC The New Frontier by Cooke
-Starman by Robinson
-Green Lantern by Johns
-Planetary by Ellis/Cassaday
-Fantastic Four/FF by Hickman
-JSA by Johns/Goyer/Robinson
-52 by Morrison/Johns/Rucka/Waid/Giffen
-Gotham Central by Brubaker/Rucka
-Manhunter by Andreyko
-Secret Six by Simone
Those last 3 could change day to day but right now that's what I'll say.
All-Star Superman
Ex Machina
JLA: Earth 2
Jupiter's Circle/Jupiter's Legacy
Planetary
Sleeper
Stormwatch: Team Achilles
The Authority (1999-2002)
Wildcats Version 3.0
X-Statix

I can add anyone I missed. Or, conversely, if this post is too much of an eyesore, I can remove it. Hahaha.

Will do

I'll be honest: It's mostly just Astonishing X-Men, Simone's Secret Six, Locke and Key, and Kingdom Come.

Anything else is disingenuous.

Especially Astonishing X-Men. God save me I'll never stop loving that book.

Nothing hits that combination of character, action, plot, dialogue, and just pure heart like that book.

The point of that was to end Parker Industries in time for Legacy resetting everything back to the status quo.

still tired. can you get back to me?

but if you're being serious, typing up a short post is like... the least amount of "work" anyone has to put into.
I was just teasing. I'd be interesting to hear about your favorite series, but I also understand why one wouldn't give a shit about doing it. It's a completely subjective, pretty simple concept, but I just like to see what others are into.

that's a tough one, there are a lot of things that came out recently that definitely deserve a spot. I'll see what I can think of.

Spider-Men II

See, I totally remembered that Miles knew about the Ultimate universe. Big screwup on that Gwenpool comic for him to not remember.

Also, PUNISHED MILES. Seems like he used to be some kind of hero, too.

To be fair, he could've just been playing dumb in the Gwenpool story.

Have you all listed your top favorite series (plural) of all time recently? To make it easier, you don't have to worry about order. Just list 5-10 of your favorites.
Let's go!

All-Star Superman
Ex Machina
JLA: Earth 2
Jupiter's Circle/Jupiter's Legacy
Planetary
Sleeper
Stormwatch: Team Achilles
The Authority (1999-2002)
Wildcats Version 3.0
X-Statix

I hope after Deadly Class #29 you all have a new found appreciation for Zenzele. She is without a doubt the best character right now.

Please don't die.

That extremis virus shit in IM3 is actually based (well loosely) on a comic? That kinda makes me apreciate it more now, I thought it was just some made up bullshit to have fire-powered bad guys.

I thought extremis was some sort of liquid metal armor tony wore.

Yeah, he got it after he infected himself with Extremis. And the Comic its based on is... Extremis :D

Dark days the casting was okay and I'm definitely looking forward to Metal, but I don't know when reading it I kind of started to get a little sick of every page being a reference to an old character, item or series. Started to read more like an encyclopedia of DC history than an actual story, but maybe it just need a few re-reads. Plus was just a build up chapter to the upcoming main event of course.

As a minor DC fan (not hardcore by any means) felt like I understood about 80% of the Forge and about 50% of the Casting without looking stuff up afterwards ha

It wouldn't be like Snyder to info dump in a comic and force it to read like multiple Wikipedia pages open at once.

:O

Sure, don't tell us which ones. :/

I may have forgotten. My local store was clearancing books. Still sealed for €100 all in

Absolute Y The Last Man Vol 1
Absolute Y The Last Man Vol 2
Flash Omnibus by Manapul and Buccellato

Victory? I've never read Flash but I love Manapuls art. I heard the story is meh tho.

Ha I actually am quite looking forward to Metal but theres a thin line between what he did in the Forge where you had some story build up mixed with some mysteries/easter eggs and then something like Final Crisis where you needed a degree in DC history to even know what the hell was going on. The Casting wasn't as bad as that but it was getting there.

Still I have the feeling Metal will be the best thing Snyders done since his new 52 Batman run.

It was only one guy, but yeah, he had. You should give it a read, I think its the best modern Iron Man Story and its only 6 Issues.

Only 6 issues? I bet its a Warren Ellis joint lol

Efit: googled it and it totally fucking is haha. Motherfucker really only writes 6 issues at a time huh?

That's Imperium finished. That really does just end doesn't it. I figured
Harada died, but no, I guess he's still kicking about.

Also finished the first arc of Rock Candy Mountain. It was good but I feel it's probably best read in it's entirety after the series is finished.

Now to catch up on Royal City.
