It's high time KH takes this as the new design phisosophy and sets things right after KH3:

Animu side of fans have gotten too far.

I think it's a good and healthy thing for KH to have its own well-fleshed-out cast of KH-original characters who are neither licensed Disney nor licensed FF cameos. Obviously Yen Sid/Mickey/Donald/Goofy/Maleficent are core to the franchise and not going anywhere, but it's my hope that KH3 leaves the series with a stronger basic status quo/constant cast to build upon.

That said, the Disney material should be back in the forefront too - KH1 is still the strongest game in the series as far as that's concerned, and Maleficent's felt pretty much like a joke in the rest of the series.

I never mind original characters when they are well used. But for example in my opinion indeed someone like Lea is dangerously close to being a complete fanwank character now that in my eyes has become more and more boring as the series goes on.

CoM Axel? Neat villain!
KH2 Axel? Watered down villain, still pretty cool!
Days Axel? Same thing, pretty cool I suppose.
BBS Lea? Ok, cute, he has a frisbee and becomes ''friends'' with Ven during a 10 second animu bro battle. Groan.
DDD Lea? Remember those cool weapons he used to have and were a big part of the character design? Well he prolly won't be using those no moar, give way for boring keyblade.

Roxas is another that they will just water down like all hell, they already started.

And don't even get me started on Sora.

As said by Nomura in 2013-2014 interviews and possibly showcased by the new trailer with Maleficent & Hades interacting, Disney worlds should have at least a bit more to do with the story of KHIII than in many games past KH1.

You know, I think BBS was really supposed to be a PS3 game (or PS2 at least). The keyblade transformations in KH III are definitely something Nomura had in mind since the Terra battle in KH II Final Mix, however BBS ended up being a PSP game which would limit this new feature too much.

It really sucks that he had this idea way back in 2007 and only now we will be able to experience it lol

Proto-BBS I think might have been running on PS2 hardware, at least initially so they could churn out trailers for TGS 2007/Jump Festa 2008. Some scenes take place in KHII areas you don't see in BBS: the Main Island's beach in Destiny Islands and the "Maw" area outside Radiant Garden/Hollow Bastion:
TGS2007
Jump Festa '08

I would have liked to have seen what BBS would have been like if it was developed with PS3 in mind. And Days could have taken up the PSP slot maybe.

Yeah, I remember that those trailers were actually using PS2 assets. I think BBS was supposed to be a PS2 game after all, but it should have been a PS3 one.

I very much doubt it was ever going to be a PS3 game. MAYBE started off as a PS2 game but I'm sure they figured out before long that PS2 was too far into its lifespan to be a viable platform, so when PSP had its second wind and became such a hit in Japan, they probably settled on that pretty early on.

After KHII's release Nomura said that he had some smaller stories he wanted to tell prior to KHIII and how he was trying to figure out how to do all of them (since we now know they are so all over the place chronologically). Then they eventually announced Days, BBS & Coded. The big plan was originally for the OG KH Team to develop Versus XIII to gather experience working on PS3 level hardware to be able to realize Nomura's already ambitious plans for KHIII at the time while other teams (& parts of KH team making sure they'd stay true to the concept & style of KH) would work on those smaller games to pass the time between KHII & KHIII. At the time it never sounded like they were planning for another PS3 KH. KHIII was always the only PS3 level KH on the horizon while they announced those handheld games pretty quickly after KHII.

So yeah, Kingdom Hearts III would have been the big, epic PS3 debut for the franchise after Versus XIII while Days, BBS & Coded were always just supposed to be smaller games that bridged the gap to KHIII & filled in some blanks Nomura felt needed filling prior to KHIII, while keeping fans at least somewhat happy that they wouldn't have to go without any KHs at all until Versus XIII's release.

I agree, it was probably supposed to be a PS2 game then he would use his idea of keyblade transformations. He probably decided to save this idea for KH III then since the PSP probably wouldn't be "powerful" enough to implement this in a satisfactory way.

I think KH3 will finally be the game that brings in Hannah Montana.

"You get the beeeest of both realms
A little darkness and light
Sora's gonna win in this fight"

Not forgotten by any means but they should really bring in Magica de Spell and Gyro/Archimede. Really, a world based on the old Italian Disney comics (generally sold as 'Paperino,' the Italian name for Donald Duck - they were the eventual basis for a lot of the Ducktales stuff) would be completely out of the blue and absolutely delightful.

Obviously we've had a Wonderland world but a world based on the Mickey Mouse 'Thru The Mirror' short would be cool too.

OH MY GOD, why haven't I thought about it and why does it sound so awesome??? They could even go all comic-like with the art-style *drools*

Amazing idea!!

I hope your copy of KH3 is corrupted and the game stays sold out for weeks so you can't replace it.

What an awful thing to say :(

I'm re-watching Re:coded and James Woods sounds really off this time. I don't know whether it's because he's aged or if he was just bored, but I hope Hades sounds more like KH1-BbS Hades than Re:coded.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the English voice acting for Re:Coded and DDD got completely phoned in.

is it me or does it seem like there's no hype for the 15th? I thought I would see the E3 trailer thread become bumped at some point close to the date.

There have been several threads about the D23 event (some exclusively about KHIII, others about everything). Since they already revealed it would be at D23 and told some details early on, much of the discussion was probably already had around & after E3 and now people are mostly just waiting for the thing to happen.

Personally I haven't been too interested in participating in the discussions past a few posts. When much of it is the typical "game isn't gonna be out until 2029, lol, they will only show concept art, lol, or probably not show the game at all, lol" idiocy & pessimism that just doesn't make for a very interesting or fun hype thread to participate in.

I've now completed all the Kingdom Hearts HD collections however I have no desire to play mobile / browser games to complete the whole story so far.

Are there any good summaries of the whole Chi / Cross saga?

I realised in doing the collectioms I might have enjoyed KH II a lot more when I first played it if I knew what went on in CoM.

Can't blame you, Famassu, but the skepticism around the trailer and Nomura's promises are understandable and healthy. It does start feeling meme-y when everyone in the thread is doing it, though.

To the original point, I'm totally buzzed for the trailer!!! :) I'll take any KH3 news, and there is definitely some huge potential here after the E3 trailer's message of "If you thought this was cool, wait until D23"

The E3 trailer made the gameplay suddenly look sufficiently fleshed out that I started believing KH3 could very possibly come to us in 2018. My own doubts are over.

I wouldn't even know how to begin summarizing chi/Unchained/Union Cross. Half the problem is we're still not sure how, when and why it's taking place.

Never mind then I guess!

I'm sure I'll find it in 10 years as a hidden file in Kingdom Hearts III.7 Final Mix 16K ReMix. :)

I can't see anything very clear from the wikis out there - Union X is apparently ongoing as a kinda Season 2 to Unchained which in itself is a side-story of Chi that then becomes a semi-sequel? No clear end in sight for when this all wraps up?

The thing I find most intriguing from the weird mish-mash of info I've found is how the
Keyblade War
happened and
Ventus' origins in The Dandelions.

The rest (No Name, Master of Masters and Black Box aside) I can see being largely irrelevant, but you never know with Nomura.

The skepticism is understandable when it's some "we have plans for when we'll next show KHIII around Summer 2018" kind of vague promises. This D23 thing is happening and they've told us what to expect (even reigned in some of the wildest hype). I'd rather have a thread full of people speculating what the new world reveal will be and what else they'll possibly show in terms of gameplay features and just generally be all "yay, we are getting more KHIII footage", less whiny entitled complaining.

Absolutely nothing of importance happens in (Unchained) Chi/Cross Union. We are almost 700 quests into Chi in the west and the latest non-Disney story quests in a while amounted to fuck all with the same old cliched "friendshipz is powahz" message that has been repeated ad nauseaum even in Chi alone.

I'm a little cautious after Nomura backtracking on D23 info and just saying expecting normal info, but I still think it could happen. I'm not budging on 2018 until after Jump Festa/TGS/PSX with no date.

Plus it's still ongoing plotwise and probably will be up until 3 releases or post-KH3.

It's understandable for DDD, since outside of the main cast only three VA's were original (Ursula, Hugo the Gargoyle, and Flynn/Clu if you bend the truth a bit) but I didn't mind the voice work for Alice, and the guy who played Genie did try his best.

From what I can gather, Chi happens in the real time past up until a certain point and none of unchained is happening in the real past. Its just your character reliving events

Right now there have been no less than four separate releases in the [chi] sub series: [chi] the browser game, Unchained the mobile game, Back Cover the movie, and Union the sequel to the mobile game. *None* of them have covered the goddamned keyblade war: [chi] fast forwards to the war beginning and has you knocked out and "die" then pulls a "just a dream" before tossing you forward in time to just before BBS, Unchained/Union rewrites history so you don't end up in the war and instead become the new Foretellers with Ephemer, Skuld, and Ventus, and Back Cover follows Luxu into the wilderness instead of showing us what we came for.

I actually am probably the most capable person around to cover the majority of the games events simply because I've been playing the series for almost four years, but I don't even know what matters in the long run for the Kingdom Hearts overarching plot. Plus the story is the most Nomura it has ever been. People are turning into heartless but not really, you created an evil super thing, you never actually visit any worlds because everything is an illusion and that's before we even get to dude apparently embedding his fucking eye in a keyblade.

If this ever ends, I will let you know what matters.

-----

It's still the third most fun mobile game I've played.

One of the things I'm most excited for KH3 is The fact that if a KH3FM ever gets developed, the FM can just be pushed as DLC once it's finished

Quick question:

My copy of KH2.8 just arrived and I'm not sure if I should play BBS0.2 before watching Back Cover, or if I should watch Back Cover before playing BBS0.2. For context, I've gone through everything in 1.5 and 2.5 and beat the 3DS version of DDD, so I only felt like playing DDDHD for an hour or so.

Is there a recommended order for playing/watching BBS0.2 and Back Cover, or is either order fine?
