Destiny 2 Beta |OT| Garry's Mod

What's the best class?

Went back and played through the story with a Hunter after playing through with Titan this morning. Bungie REALLY needs to tone down the particle effects when you shoot something. There’s so much flashy shit going on, its hard to line up follow up headshots using anything with a fast rate of fire.

Seriously, Bungie, we get it. The new engine likes particles, but dial it back on the hit connections.

Yooo as I play this I'm loving it more and more. I don't know if it's the 4v4, the map design, or what but it feels so much more tactical then it ever has. The abilities they added are huuuuuge too.

oooff it feels way off IMO,
sounds, feel, abilities

I get it that they tried to make changes but man do the grenades suck and take forever to recharge

Destiny 1 has more punch IMO.

and the Crucible is really not as fun .

I prefer D1's 6v6 Control over D2's 4v4 Control with meh grenades and meh melee

It’s not HDR at the moment. I played today on the Pro hooked up to my LG OLED and it didn’t flip over to HDR when I played. And as far as I know, they haven’t committed, or even hinted at, making it HDR in the future.

Ok yea, I just got a chance to play it and it's not. That's really dissapointing, how do they not include HDR nowadays for such a big Blockbuster title.

Crucible is starting to grow on me..... super happy not to get spam killed by supers, shottys and snipers 24/7. Gunplay feels really tight, digging auto rifles right now.

Everything is slower.
Weapon impact feels off.
Warlocks suck now.
Audio mixing feels off.

D1 was like 2 parts gun play and 1 part ability usage and movement. D2 feels like 4 parts gun play, 1 part abilities and movement.

The beta feels like there's some big stuff missing and I'm not sure if they're actually gone or if it's just not in the beta.

No random rolls is both nice and boring. Where's the loot and why don't they drop from enemies?

Aim assist seems to be lower and recoil seems to be higher across the board.

Why are there only 2 subclasses per class when D1 ended with 3?

Strike and mission were big improvements from D1.

The 4v4 diffuse/plant the bomb mode is super fun, love that map too. The control mode is still not a lot of fun. Power ammo seems to come a bit too frequently though.
Grenade launcher sucks, the 1 sniper I had didn't feel great, the legendary hand cannon I started with took way too long to reload.
The warlock exotic is like scraping the barrel of what should be considered an exotic weapon.

Hunter felt great, warlock sucks so much. I mained warlock in D1 and now I don't want to play warlock.

So after playing all night... this is fantastic.

I can't remotely understand anyone saying the gunplay feels wrong. There's a few minor things here and there that, yes, do feel a little different. But overall it's the same Destiny I've been playing for 3 years. It continues to be satisfying to kill Cabal.

But hey, it's a beta. Hopefully they tweak some things here and there. The main thing is that supers need to charge faster.

I'm enjoying the new weapon loadout system. It forced my friends and I to be more careful during the Strike and to plan ahead a bit more. And it's fantastic in PvP.

Both new Crucible maps are great and it feels like 4v4 may have been the correct choice. And Countdown is very fun.

Edit: And it can't be said enough. The sound design is fucking AMAZING.

Just thought I'd provide a PSA to people here.

If you pre-orderd the game from Best Buy and you cancel your pre-order, they will end up charging you $19.99 for the beta code.

I don't mind the long super recharge, but running and turning still feels slow like i destiny 1.

I was hoping we would get a little more in the beta. This is a lot less than what they let us play in the D1 beta.

sublclasses lack depth, they are more like one trick pony'

compare Voidwalker D1 vs Voidwalkr D2 eeeessh. In D1, subclasses where costumziable to your liking and Vodiwalkers were fun as heck when you get the Hunger build going.

but D2's Voidwalker? oh my God, what's the point of playing a Warlock if you have to wait 5 hours to get you nades recharged?
...

and Striker, pffffffffffff WTF. In D1, I was running around punching the shit out of everything. Here, you lose Stormfist and can only use melee as Shoulder Charge maaaahhhhha :pPd cacacaca

My complaint is the top of the screen is way too busy for crucible. Too much shit on the screen at some points, and the scarcity of power ammo. But I'm enjoying the beta.
I agree. At one point my jaw was hanging open as I stared in disbelief at the screen crammed with TONS of info. A little ridiculous. That said, the beta is mucho fun. Finally we get to see what has been behind that huge door in the speaker's part of the Tower! Very cool. Plus the gunplay has clicked for me finally, but I really hate these average weapons. Fusion rifles are INSANE though. Overall this is a great peek at the game. I just can't wait to grind gorgeous planets and play hopefully slightly larger PvP maps. :)

Just going to chime in and say the hit detection definitely feels off in cases it feels like I'm landing every shot and melt someone and at times it feels like half my bullets connect when I'm right on them.

Recovery seems incredibly slow. They somehow made subclasses have less choice than D1. You'd think a sequel would add on to it but nope they take away choice. The weapon rolls being locked will probably make this much less replayable. Really wish the regular walk speed was increased along with sprint getting a little faster. Admittedly not a fan of the radar going away for so long after ADSing. Wish hipfire was more accurate, will never understand why they give hip fire itself recoil. Really liked having two primaries for PVP, also like how power ammo works, fusion rifles are OP as fuck though while snipers need less zoom.

Graphically it looks nice, not a huge upgrade at all but nice. Feels like the game would be a lot more fun on PC, many of the issues I have on console weren't addressed. Bad field of view, low (but steady) framerate, every sensitivity option is locked to one slider.

At least the story mission was cool, definitely an improvement there.

is the starting gear
including exotic
you get based on class? or if I delete my character and try again, could I get different gear?

Wow thats crazy especially if they didnt mention that anywhere in the store page previously

I think the starting gear &
exotic
is based on class. As I have played the story mode with each class and gotten a different one each time. The hand cannon was easily my favorite out of the three.

Slippery slope. If ppl are that concerned wait for reviews? There’s no way to circumvent this concern.
To be fair, this exact same line of reasoning was used to quell this exact critique before. Wait for the full game, there will be a lot more, you cannot make assumptions about content from the beta. I would say that the concern has more merit now than it did previously given that we've seen how Destiny 1 played out.

None of this refutes the fact that if you are concerned? You should wait for reviews as you pointed out. But to try and hand waive the concern away by saying it evokes the slippery slope fallacy is misguided, at least in my opinion.

I've only played Warlock thus far, but it seems you can't cancel out of your boost jump anymore by going to ADS. Don't know if there is a specific timing to it or what, but if it's gone, that's really lame.

Why does regular turn sensitivity feel slow damn slow relative to ads sensitivity? I want turning from the hip to be fast and my aiming to be much more controlled. I don't remember Destiny 1 feeling like that.

The solar warlock can ads and throw grenades without disrupting the jump. Feels pretty good in pve, feels like you are a flying target in pvp. You can terminate the jump by pressing jump again.

I liked that sprint cool down was removed. Didn't like how pressing the touchpad a second time would put the Ghost away. Hoping they explain why Defender is now called Sentinel (they don't care).

The place spaces were definitely larger, dropping last gen really helped. I was pleasantly surprised that the Tower please was a public space to fight Cabal.

Oh, and when Zavala says fall back in my shield, do it.

Last, still unsure about the new weapon system. Having two primary weapons felt...off.

My grandmother is faster than the Arcstrider. Holy shit, if it isn't a narrow space indoors or a tight space of some sorts it's pretty useless. You can get away so easily. And the duration of the Golden Gun is beyond ridiculous. On the other hand, Sentil lasts a week.

The radar is also pretty bad, you can barely see what's going on. C'mon Bungo, I have faith in you.

While i am enjoying the PVP 4v4 control more then i thought i would, i feel it is almost a different game compared to Destiny 1. The gunplay feels good but the movement has been hit hard - i just don't feel like i have "flow" as much anymore. The prolonged grenade, melee, special and super recharge also does not help.

I was surprised that there wasn't a larger sense of shock during the reveal event that they dropped everything to 4v4. Why couldn't they provide still a 6v6 experience and a 3v3 or 4v4 experience like in Destiny 1 again giving people the choice?

Warlock feels a shell of what it was in Destiny 1 in PVP but funnily enough seems much better in PVE.

Disclaimer: In D1 I enjoyed the 6v6 cruicible and disliked the majority of the 3v3 modes.

Endless Vale is a grower for sure

At first glance I was like "fuck this it's just flat and peeking around corners to shoot"

But honestly I think it feels very reminiscent of Shores Of Time. I don't think the sections are as visually distinct but the map layout feels very similar

I honestly loved the majority of the launch maps in D1, most of the DLC never came close (though I never played ROI, which I heard was designed by the Rusted Lands person? Idk)

My wish is for more distinct arenas vs. slices of maps

Time to kill feels way higher in PvP. I know this because in D1 I would die constantly before seeing my attacker. Now I'm able to turn around and see my attacker, then die.

Does anyone know if I can put my ps4 in rest mode for faster download even though its in the destiny 2 app?

Ah, ok. Jump it is then. Thanks for the heads up.

Totally felt like a piñata without being able to cancel flight on the Control map and trying to take B coming from C.

Feeling super squishy as a Warlock. Is there a reason it takes 3 melee hits to kill an opponent when it only takes 2 for them to kill me from full? Hoping its just me because this shit's happening consistently now.

Also is there a way to get Upgrade Points in the beta?

I don't really mind the long ability cooldowns or the fact that snipers and shotguns use heavy ammo now, but man the lack of subclass customization sucks! I hope that they at least add more nodes when the full game releases.
