Are Big Time Streamers Getting Lazy?

So I get home from work in the evenings and pull up my twitch follow list. I noticed some streamers (example: dansgaming) who used to stream at that time switched to vodcast or not live videos.

Are they using the vodcast to get more free time and treat it like a 9-5? Are they worried viewers and subs will start to drop and someone who is live will take their views?

I know it takes a lot of stream time to build a following so I don't see the big deal using the vodcast. However, I do find myself not watching them as much when they're not live.

If the streamers start getting as lazy as video game developers are right now then the video game medium as we know it is in severe jeopardy.

Stuff like this will appear until the limit is reached, if vodcasts are working then they will stick around and maybe even replace hours they would normally stream. Once vodcasts start hurting them they will slow down and stream again, it's like an abuse/lazy period I guess.

Honestly I don't follow anyone who replaced their stream times with vodcasts yet but I have heard about some bigger names using them constantly.

The idea that someone isn't putting in more hours than 9-5 for streaming is "lazy" is a fucking pathetic way of thinking about things.

The guy who is too lazy to play video games, calls other people lazy for not playing them.

I really don't think console video gaming has been even a bit affected this gen. Seeing how online transactions and online interactivity catapulted to extensive margins making video gaming more profitable than ever before.

Sony just made almost 4 billion on PlayStation alone last quarter.

I just want to point out hat I am pretty sure this was just a sarcastic post as we have moved on from lazy devs to lazy streamers. He didn't actually mean devs were lazy....

This type of shit makes me realise I'm getting old. I dont understand why people watch others playing games to the point where streamers get paid mega bucks to play shit for people to watch. I get nothing from watching people play, I want the controller in my hand. And yes, Im 41 and probably considered an old git by GAF standards so I expect to be in the minority

They play games for a living... aren't they inherently a little bit lazy?

Honestly? No. I have a friend who streams for a living. I'd much, much, much rather do my job than his. Playing games is the fun part, but the rest that comes with it(and the often insane hours) is too much.

It's honestly game tester levels of "seems like a dream job but...actually will drive you insane with a rather low pay most of the time." Exceptions and all but seriously, I personnally reeeally wouldn't stream for a living after seeing the toll it takes on them. It's just too much work, ironically.

Kind of a side point but I've tried watching some of the big streamers and I just don't see how they got so popular other than being one of the early ones like summit1g and dansgaming or being a top pro in a popular game. None of them are as engaging or entertaining as I expected to justify the thousands of subscribers.

I don't agree, There are lots of entertaining streamers that are worth watching.

I respect anyone who is able to stream more than 4 hours a day, doesn't matter if it's every day, or even just two or three times a week.
Streaming games is not as easy and relaxing as everyone thinks it is. I'm a veeeeeeery small time streamer, don't have that many viewers per stream, but it still makes it all more complicated. Not only are you trying to play a game but you're also constantly looking out that your stream isn't fucking up or something like that. And then you're trying to have a discussion with the people in your chat, trying not to miss anything. You're constantly multi-tasking.

So I can totally understand when even the big streamers "take a day or two off per week" and just restream some VODs. Totally fine with it.
(Also if they lose followers over this that's their problem)

Do you consider people who work full time jobs lazy?

Good luck to you

Nah, I was just being sarcastic. I do find the twitch market interesting. A lot of streamers put in crazy hours when they start and now that they have a big following are they willing to do vodcast to free up time and hope someone else doesn't come along and take their views.

That's a big risk I think when they could start losing more of their audience. I simply noticed myself not watching them since they weren't live and started watching a few other live streamers.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed and changed their viewing habits based on being live or not.

I guess it's no different from getting view on your old youtube videos. It does suck from a consumer standpoint if you can't tell if it's truly live or not.

Seems some streamers take a summer vacation, which is understandable and a good thing, mainly notice this because there is alot less active streamers online ost of the day.

OP if you follow DansGaming on Twitter you would know he took the day off to take care of some stuff. He streams regular hours as always but he has a "Not Live" stream up when he is away. Seems to be the new thing on Twitch that people are doing.

Dansgaming has always done that, at least for themed weeks.

At the end of the day it's their decision, if viewers don't enjoy it they'll watch someone else and the streamer's revenue/brand will be affected. I wouldn't go so far as to call them lazy though; there's a lot of behind the scenes work that we don't see.

I feel you OP, twitch should be introducing features to keep them working harder, not smarter

Timthetatman still holding the fort down. Best streamer out there.

This guy always pops up on the actual good players streams in Overwatch and whatever, he's terrible at the games but queues with much better players and gets carried. He's also annoying as hell.

Yeah and I was to. some of the big streamers are very entertaining, it honestly depends on what games you are interested in watching.

Eh, you should make it clear next time. "There are lots of entertaining streamers that are worth watching." doesn't dispute what I wrote lol.

But anyways, of the popular ones I've watched I don't see what sets them apart from the good streamers who have like 5% of the viewers based on personality and stream content alone.
