COMICS!!! |OT| July 2017 | Princess, I've Seen the Way You Look At Me.

Alright I think I'm about wrapped up with the D.C. Sale.

Notable pickups:
Completed Bombshells and Manhunter runs
90s Superman
Mr miracle by Kirby
Caught up to eligible rebirth trades
Batman collections and
A bunch of classic WW, Justice league, superboy/Legion

Looks like the way to go for D.C. Rebirth is just wait for trades. Digital trades are less than cover price and then buy one / get one nets the best value

I would say that's true for comics in general these days. You're trading cost for wait time.

hey can you remind me how long it took before we found out what Fury told Thor in Original Sin?

if you're gonna have a beef with long-form storytelling, your choice, but, in a thread mostly dedicated to following stories month after month, it's gonna be a hot take

I have two digital Aquaman issues to give away. Both Stjepan Sejics issues. Winner is the first person to tell me my favourite Sejic character. Y'all this is simple.
You know it's me. I'm the guy that read all of Sunstone after PMing you asking what your avatar was from. Please :)
Your favorite character would be Ally.

I imagine they're already gone.

Edit: Damn. Just continued reading the thread. I was right, too. I'm the true winner in your heart, at least, yes?

It's bullshit that all comics that will ever be made aren't available right now. The Big Two have deceived us for the last time! From now on it's only gonna be indie comics! Catch y'all losers later, I'm gonna read me some Casanova!

I know they're having fun with it but apart of me feels like Snyder and Capullo are trying way too hard on the Heavy Metal theme. Yeah, we get it. Rock on and all that stuff. I'm being cranky.

I just started Noble Causes and I want a Noble Cause TV show.

Like I'm on the third issue, just started.
I really enjoyed noble causes. It kind of meanders way down the line but it's fun soap opera cape books

If you like it also check out Dynamo 5. Same writer and I'd say his best work. Really great character dynamics and setups.

You are the moral victor as I know Tim totally guessed. But rules are rules.

I hope we don't get wave 3 after doomsday clock, would be too long of a wait.

The time gap thing sounds interesting, loved how IC left a year long gap afterwards that was filled by 52.

I feel like we might get a third wave at the end of Doomsday Clock. We are getting the second one at the end of the year for sure.

Dark Matter is wave 3 with a different branding and it looks like those books are going to start coming out in December.

Some bullshit that DC isn't going with a service like Marvel Unlimited. I haven't spent a red penny on DC comics in over a decade, guess Marvel will keep getting my money both digitally and in print if I buy collections. I'll support publishers who embrace digital.

I guess it's a blessing in disguise that the Image CMX sale is crap. There's nothing I want that's older than 2 months.

I can see where DC is coming from re: Unlimited. Sometimes I kinda feel like a dope buying Marvel books on Comixology that I could read six months later on Unlimited. Parity remains an issue for me, when it no longer is, I will probably start reading a bunch of them with Unlimited, which is less money for Marvel.

On the other hand I buy a lot less DC and would be more likely to give books like Flash or Batman another chance with an Unlimited service. I'd get a lot more out of it without changing my buying habits at all. I dunno. I see the argument for it but I see the argument against it as well.

A much bigger issue that I have with DC on digital right now is they aren't bringing down digital prices on old books or doing enough sales. They definitely don't feel very digital-friendly at the moment

Maybe there will be another. There's a new Dark Horse sale on single issues. Maybe there will also be another Marvel sale instead of the current "Mahvel pls" sale.

I know that feel robot-senpai.

Holy shit this got fucking dark. Like, I think Noble Causes just did the darkest turn I've read in any comic ever.

Has anyone else read this series?

Usually I don't fuck too much with DC outside of Batman but that was really damn good. I'm loving how Dr. Manhattan is seen as a god, someone even more powerful than Darkseid. I can't imagine what will happen once he shows up.

But you still wouldn't be spending that much money on D.C. If your lamenting no unlimited service. I mean if anything if you wanted them to brace digital in a way marvel does than you'd only be spending $10 a month on that company's wares, not counting physical.

There are pros and cons for the publisher with those types of services. I kinda lean more towards what DC is saying even if I want the service, but a lot of other notable publishers have already jumped on the sub train

Isn't Marvel the only publisher putting their "full" back catalog up digitally for a monthly fee? Or no?

Tried Manhunter. Not for me. Tried Bombshells. Not for me. Re-read Shade The Changing Girl #1 and dug it a lot more on re-read. Will definitely pick up rest of that. Bought Injustice year one. Having a good time with the DC sale.

It destroys me that you didn't like Manhunter.

I liked stuff about it. The intro snake villian dude was cool. But I just don't buy her as a character. Especially how shitty a mom she is. I also don't like her dialogue. I can see the man holding the pen writing her dialogue, if you know what I mean. But I only read a couple issues. Maybe it gets awesome. I know a lot of people like it.

His interaction with Artemis are getting better. His high moments are still with Bizarro. Some real heartfelt stuff. I'm noticing he's more relaxed now that the team is formed. He isn't perfect which I like. Particularly in combat he makes some mistakes but in a team setting it helps to establish the unity with his teammates.
Which is great. I dig this book on a conceptual level, I just have an issue with the actual dialogue. It doesn't feel natural, and I don't think that's intentional given the fact that I had the same issue with the previous Red Hood Lobdell books. It feels like characters are just saying things at each other in their own voices, but it doesn't feel like there's an exchange. Does that make sense? I'm afraid I'm not explaining it well.

And it was worth it.
This is a really good cover.
His THRONE IS ON GALACTUS' HEAD?! FUCKING WHAT?!

It's the cover for the issue of Thanos were Cates and Shaw take over. I'm guessing that's Ms Marvel's hand, but shaded/shadowed.
Nope. Kamala is laying at the base of the stairs. Her limbs are not extended. The Maker?

What does the Young Animal brand mean? Seems to involve the creator of Umbrella Academy.

Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance and author of both True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and Umbrella Academy, is the head "curator," I guess, of Young Animal. Young Animal is an imprint similar to Vertigo. It's just something different. Different feel that doesn't focus around any of DC's major properties.

It's basically 90s Vertigo before they decided to separate themselves from the DC universe and only publish indie comics.

Aaaah okay, something like Vertigo.
