Games with the most satisfying controls

Super Mario Galaxy. 1 and 2. Rock solid and the ice skating is gawddamn perfect. Also the split controls makes controlling Mario a dream.

Yoshi's Island.

You reckon? Unlike Mario there's no momentum to the movement (which is fine, it's a different game, but it still doesn't feel as good) and the egg throwing kinda sucks.

Splatoon feels really good - the motion controlled aiming should in everything and the visual and aural feedback you get when you go in and out of squid form is super satisfying.

Oh and MGSV is fucking incredible

Love the feel of Metroid Prime (especially nailed 3d jumping and feel of lock on combat), also all 2D Metroids (basic running, jumping, and shooting is so satisfying- love the feeling of my gun cutting though enemies w wave/freeze gun, screw attack, controllable jump mid air, these games just control like a dream)

All Mario games feel amazing

F-Zero (I'd say the SNES one is the best racer ever made)

Beyonetta- the dodge/strafe counter feels perfect)

Onymusha (the block parry mechanic is so satisfying)

Wii Bowling

3D Dot Hero (just the feeling of combat because of the way enemies explode into little bits feels amazing)

Killzone 2 (love the heavy feel, guns feel very impactful)

Stryder (feels amazing once the entire game is memorized- the feeling of your sword, especially on contact, combined with down hill momentum running and latching onto surfaces- great to flow through)

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat- Once you get into the Drums and combo system it's addicting

Horizon ZD is by far my favorite controlling third person action game. Near perfect weight, walk speed, sprint speed, slide, short or long roll... love it.

As far as FPS, Destiny nails it. Halo was always great but man... Bungie knocked it out of the park here.

This is basically why I play fighting games at all. The good ones, combos and D-pad motions flow into each other in an incredibly satisfying way. I'd enjoy it a lot more if it weren't a competitive versus game though - which is part of the reason Guardian Heroes is so great (and it's even better in the XBLA version's Remix Mode).

Another Treasure game, and I know a lot of fans of the original like to complain about it, but Gunstar Super Heroes controls incredibly well, and basically solves all of the problems associated with the original game's choice between Fixed and Free Shot (where you get eight-way shooting but can't move, or always move left/right if you're pressing a diagonal to aim, respectively - as anyone who played the game will undoubtedly be familiar, both have their advantages and disadvantages in various stages of the game, and with various weapons), while also introducing probably the best implementation of strafing in its genre.

As much as I do love the original Gunstar Heroes (as everyone should), the sequel is still a great game, and deserves credit for the things it does so very well.

This. I will go as far as to say that Destiny is one of the best controlling FPS games ever made.

Definitely.

A lot of people underestimate how much goes into making a game feel good, and Destiny has so much stuff going on under the hood to make it feel as fantastic as it does. For most people, I imagine, they wouldn't even be able to tell you anything about how something as "simple" as aiming and shooting works in the game, much less point out little nuances of what makes it feel so good and work so well.

Things like how it goes about targeting enemies when you're rotating and meleeing at the same time, or how target acquisition works on guns (and why hand cannons feel great - it's because of them having some really specific ways they interact with target acquisition). A practically-unprecedented amount goes into making the "simple" act of pointing and shooting a gun feel great to do, simply from a controls perspective.

If nothing else, it really highlights how simply other games implement shooting - even the major ones, including things like Overwatch - which was developed as a PC game, with a mouse in mind, and then simply adapted as straight-forwardly as possible to work on a controller.

The shit? Nioh has the most satisfying combat of any action RPG, bar none.

Someone's gotta mention Half-Life 2 for the combo of fast, responsive shooting/melee animations+satisfying sound effects+elaborate physics system+degree of interaction between player and environment.

Yeah. It may seem fairly basic, but I love how Half Life 2 controls. Part of the reason I spent so many hours on Garry's Mod.

Oh yeah, forgot about Horizon. Alongside MGS5, Horizon is the best controlling open world game ever. It is especially amazing compared to other open world RPGs!

Horizon
Zone of the Enders
Rocket League
Bayonetta
Samba de Amigo (Dreamcast version, not the Wii version)
NiGHTS into Dreams (only on systems / controllers without stick ridges, like the original Saturn version bundled with its analog controller)

Portable Award goes to:
SNK vs Capcom Match of the Millennium on the Neo Geo Pocket Color (bless the clickstick)

F-Zero (I'd say the SNES one is the best racer ever made)

Absolutely agree! The racer I've enjoyed the most in my entire life (well, MSR for the Dreamcast was a blast too).

Also, I want to say Sonic I for the Master System. Such a tight and satisfying control.

Star trek bridge crew (i know its vr but bravo)

The implementation of motion control's in this game is not only fun but leads to some hilarious interactions with your crew members when you don't know what the fuck to do....queue crew members trying to make finger into hole motions at female bridge crew members while getting attacked by Klingons.

Cross play between ps4 and pc is a big plus....this is a good example of motion controls and good vr.

Bridge Crew is an awesome game. One of the best MP experiences I ever had and s fantastic VR experience. Ubisoft stoped supporting the game though, it apparently didn't sell enough units. A switch port could work but it won't happen. :(

I've always been partial to Eternal Sonata's battles, particularly towards the end of the game. Especially towards the end when grinding in the Mystery Unison was just so much fun.

The Mega Man Zero games. L button - Dash, R button - saber, A - jump, B button - shoot. Simple controls that are responsive and precise.

I also still live the elegance of the Zone of the Enders control scheme. With just the left stick, a dash button, and an attack button, the game allows for a wide array of both melee and ranged attack options. The fun throws and special weapons are just icing on the cake.

Specter Knights gameplay from Shovel Knight.

Just played through it recently, lot of fun and it has really sharp controls.

He can skate on his scythe through levels, run on walls, and wall jump. He can dash through most objects like enemies and use it for platforming.

But really the dashing through enemies was satisfying and never got old many hours into the game and the devs really put a lot of thought into it.

This. I will go as far as to say that Destiny is one of the best controlling FPS games ever made.

Titanfall 2 beats out Destiny for me.

Destiny gunplay feels better, as in shooting enemies just feels more satisfying, but everything else? TF2.

Better movement mechanics, better controls, the game simply just feels better, and by that I mean it just feels super responsive.

The controls in this game are sublime. I remember going from Halo 3 to Modern Warfare and being blown away by the difference in controls. And IW/Respawn has done it again with Titanfall 2. It blows away other shooters control wise.

Imo Mirrors Edge feels amazing, at least when you have the flow and perfect movement.

Titanfall 2 may be the best fps in this Segment.

Absolutely adore how MGSV felt to control. Dark Souls too - both just feel 'right' to me.

I can't agree with Dark Souls, there are some actions that are just hard to do. Running jumps are one and aiming throwables or spells without lock on is another because moving your character is not precise when you are standing in one place. The way the game buffers actions is sometimes also not clear.

As for games that control great: Titanfall 2. It has really pleasant movement.

Nintendo Games The Thread.

Donkey Kong Country: TF has the best swimming controls of any 2D platformer ever.

Metroid Prime is great. The only thing I wish Retro implemented is a way to quickly turn around, kind of like the 180° turn you can do in Resident Evil 4.

Tiny Wings on mobile was all about feeling the arc of sliding down and up slopes. That game felt great.

Also the NES Mega Man games have such nice feeling jumps

Monster Hunter franchise. The only reason why I still play my PSP and 3ds. Gameplay is too addicting and I love the controls. It's the reason why I have a backlog for my PS4, Wii U and Vita. Been cutting down on playing MH since I got the Switch and wanting to clear my backlog. I finally got around to playing Nier Automata beating ending A and Bayonetta 1 and 2.
