If it's anything like the Armory version, it has a mediocre cape as well. I had to buy one of those custom Tony Mei capes for my Armory Batman to satisfy my OCD.

Let's get all the fanboys to buy loads of The Last Jedi figures in the last part of 2017, then switch to an undeniably better paint scheme in 2018 after which we'll release updated versions of those figures... even though that system has been available since early 2017 (or even late 2016) when they began producing the GotG w2 figures... thanks a TON, Hasbro

Hasbro also needs to make more Black series figures so they don't sell out instantly. I gave up buying them. Even when I get a preorder in on Amazon, they canceled on me. It happened twice already.

Oh, I know it's made of high quality materials which justify its price tag. I just don't like the paint app and think that it makes it look cheaper than it actually is. When the unpainted prototype first popped up, I was hoping for a paint app closer to this:

May very well be but the Hasbro Star Wars department has it also that the prototypes they show look a lot better then they do at release. I am very hesistant after all the failures now, which is really annoying, considering how the Marvel department is advancing from year to year now.

This is figure/statue manufacturing 101. They (even Sideshow does this) bring in professional painters for the prototypes, and for the final mass-produced pieces, I think they just pull hobos off the street and hand them a paint sprayer.

Yeah but most often, the final result nowadays is really good, if not even better. With Figuarts I mostly really get what I see, same with Max Factory, Hot Toys goes even as far as that the promo-shots are often so badly lightened/shopped that the faces are looking a lot better in your hand. Kotobukiyas are also looking at least the same in hand. Hell even Amiibos look very close to the promos/protos. Hasbro on the other hand was sometimes near to fraud.

Because Japanese figure manufacturers have work ethic. And they take pride in the products they sell. I think it's a cultural difference. In America it's all about profit, but Japanese companies want to uphold the quality associated with the brand name... except Griffon, obviously.

Regardless of the final quality its such a night and day difference to the base hopefully it keeps some from being disasters.

I didn't even noticed I only wrote down asian manufacturers but you are right, it's really notable. Blizzard with their first polystone of Tracer was also pretty hideous compared to what they promised, so outside of Japan and Asia there is really something to learn.

Yes the difference is already obvious but I won't be too happy, too early. The promise is nice but they have to deliver. The time they took to use the technique and the time until the first product arrives is pretty long and it's annoying how many figures lack a good paint job until then. All the TFA stuff, all the Rogue One stuff, all the TLJ stuff and of course all the figures aside from the new movies, Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera, Jaina, Thrawn, Tarkin.. a whole lot of otherwise great figues with the face-paint of a blind, one armed parkinson patient. Great that there seems to be an advancement but I am honestly asking myself what about all these figures of the last three years? I bet someone like Rey or Poe Dameron is getting a make-over but I have my doubts about the grand scale and that's really a shame.

Everything is made in China though which is the surprising part. Hasbro must pay for the cheapest labor available and have the laxest of QC standards.
