Pokemon GO Fest's livestream is absolutely must-see

Apparently there are huge lines to even escape the event. Which means their emergency planning was null too.

Are you serious? There's a line for the exit?

From reddit, there is now a long line to leave the event

Couldn't they have buddied up with Google to install some kind of WiFi solution to this? Like floating WiFi balloons or something?

This is bad.

Note: The servers are fine.

Niantic just didn't properly plan for the event which is ridiculous when there was a finite amount of tickets

I don't 100% get it, but what's to stop literally anyone else in that area (not at the event) from logging in to the servers? It's not as much as the number of tickets, but rather the number of people in that area who would want to play Pokemon GO right?

This is an absolute travesty.

Niantic are even damaging the Pokémon brand with this.

People in lines for hours, even still now, 3 hours after opening. People being unable to connect to the game.

I very nearly went. It would have cost me over £1000. I am so glad I didn't

I'm also not buying the server excuse. The servers are fine for me and most people away from the event itself. This is them not planning to get enough mobile signal boosters and alternative Wi-Fi methods and they're passing the buck

It's truly disgusting to read. How can you do everything wrong at every step?

Yeah, I too fear the damage this will have on the brand. General populace doesn't see difference in developers. They just see Pokémon.
Something like this could damage the Pokémon IP. Wonder if Pokémon CO. Can take some firm of legal action.

Don't worry. The public will do that for them :p

this is definitely on the cellphone carriers and congestion for the game.

Because I am having no issues logging in, in my town walking around.......

Ouch.... Fortunately, nothing bad did happen or else it would've been total chaos.

YouTubers with over 100K views were paid to go to the event by the way - the contract says they're not allowed to talk bad about it. That's per somebody who declined the offer.

Ouch ouch... Somehow, that sounds... like a shady part of the contract :/

What a disaster LOL! Hope Niantic learns a thing or two about this and prepares with better servers next time they do one of this massive events. TPC and Nintendo must be mad with this.

So many phone connections in a small area is never good, not the best planning either.

I wonder if it was possible for Niantic to host a custom close range server of some kind for the event instead.

Couldn't this be solved by placing wi-fi routers around the park where people could log on to, in stead of having a shit ton of mobile traffic at the same spot? Give everyone who bought a ticket the password for the wi-fi network and you're golden.

Pokemon is such a huge games franchise but for some reason it never feels like it has the budget you'd expect a huge franchise would have

that would get congested.....BUT

what they could have done was manually assign a code you got that placed you on a certain Wi-Fi in the park to evenly split the congestion

So I'm guessing they're just going to act like all of the challenges that were set were met and legendaries will be in raids.

The general populace didn't know this was even a thing. Unless it gets picked up by major sites, they'll continue to not know it even happened. I personally didn't know it was even going on.

I have to say, I did not foresee THIS level of disaster happening :/

I figured, yeah there would be a big turnout, maybe a couple hiccups, but this surpassed every fit of failure I imagined :/

Too bad for the people who attended. But I hope it's a wake up call for all parties involved to get their shit together

Niantic sounds like they had no idea what they were doing at all.

How was it taking people 3+ hours to get into this thing?

Nintendo and TPC should be going ballistic on them. This whole thing was a disaster, even before the connection issues.
