I'd assume till a week or so before launch. That's how it was with Paragon.

Because they don't teach the bonus chest stuff well, so people don't understand the value of medals.

Open your inventory and go to craft. Each weapon had different requirements and can be tracked.

Wow this game is such a grindfest

Yeah, just ammo crafting is already starting to feel irritating. There are just too many menial menu-driven tasks to mind and too many XP treadmills running concurrently. While the core action-game is a lot of fun, I can feel the RNG/slot machine tentacles creeping in fast. F2P limits are definitely a negative influence here. And the menus are nearly an unwieldly spaghetti mess of systems, also not well-explained. Game could stand to lose half of the bullshit busy work and be twice as good for it, but then the repetition of the core game might be too glaringly obvious. Fun, but for how much longer?

Don't forget leveling and evolving your weapons, traps, survivors, and heroes. And filling your collection book. And your research tree. It's great.

been upgrading my home base. upgraded to lvl 3 building upgrade. LOL. the lvl 3 brick is so good. gonna make a proper castle when i farm more. i was going to do metal but that is needed for bullets.

For those struggling with ammo early game, the bolt action rifles are your friends. I have an uncommon one that is my go to weapon which has a very good ammo consumption to kill ratio.

I only switch to my rare shotgun or assault rifles when the shit hits the fan.

I'm putting it down to the game being new. There are people that only see the building progress bar and just start mashing any old piece down to fill it up as high as they can, not realising how important in game medals are to end game loot progress.

From what I've heard on alpha streams, you can unlock it all.

Unless its an ability to you have to level them up for I have yet to see one of them use it to their advantage, I rarely see people going into nooks and crannys in my games.

Yes

Even before hoard mode, while exploring I died once (being underleveled just to get a feel for the spike) and another player for the first time in my games had to call out on chat for help.

Equip it as a gadget before a mission on the character select screen.
There is a button prompt somewhere on screen to equip a gadget. Didn't take too long to figure out.

A friend of mine gave me one of his friend code copies and I'm having fun so far.
I can see that the grind for mats will be something else, I'm already going crazy with the hunt for ammo mats and I'm still in the very early part of the game (page 2/10). I guess I should rely more on traps, ah well.

Cross progress is only between PS4 and PC currently if you link your Epic and PSN.

As for ammo, I've read getting nuts and bolts (to make ammo) from cars, washers and refrigerators is the best way.

Remember to look at mission rewards on the map mode to get stuff like ore instead hoping to find it while on missions.

I have an evolved Outlander, and yes, I can see chests and other good loot from a small distance through objects. Roughly 1-2 tiles distant. Basically anything that has green or better loot will have a corresponding glow that is visible through objects. Basically all chests, and some of the other searchable objects. It's most useful for seeing the hidden chests in secret rooms, attics, and basements.
