Licensed games better than their source material

I always thought the Ninja Turtles arcade game was way cooler and more enthralling than the actual show was.

Goldeneye

A mediocre film (at best) that spawned the greatest shooter of all time

Naruto Clash of Ninja and Ultimate Ninja games. Fighting is nowhere near as deep as most fighting games, but it's still tons of fun, and it gives you all the best parts of the series (characters, action, etc.) with none of the bullshit.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine the game. The game isn't the greatest, but I'd replay that over rewatching the horrible movie any day.

Goldeneye 007 and Ecks vs Sever are two obvious examples. A great game from a good movie and a good game from a terrible movie respectively.

Will.I.Am makes Tommy Wiseau look like Daniel Day Lewis.

It's crazy how much the wolverine films improved, one of the few film series that got better with each release.

If Goldeneye is mediocre at best I can't imagine how bad the other Bond movies I haven't seen are.

I remember seeing one where the high sparrow was some evil steve jobs mfer. Horrendous, even worse than Spectre.

Tomorrow Never Dies is the one your thinking of, and it's far far worse than Goldeneye. He was pretty much playing a fictionalised version of Rupert Murdoch in that film. Actually it's not that fictionalised, Rupert Murdoch might actually be even more evil.

All of Pierce Brosnan's bond films are terrible, Goldeneye is the best of them. A shame, as I actually think he's one of the better Bonds. He deserved better.

I'll go with Chronicles of Ridick: assult on dark Athena.

The expansion is crap, but contains the updated entire butcher bay, making it the definitive version.

-Telltalle´s The Walking Dead first two seasons?

-Captain Tsubasa 2 (Tecmo, NES, 1990) is based on a very good manga but not only trascends it: it even inspired its strongest saga (World Youth).

The Bond films as a whole aren't particularly great with only a few notable exceptions.
I still enjoy most of them though lol.

Isn't the Ghost Rider game for PS2 supposed to be pretty decent? Those movies are pretty bad.

The Witcher? I've read 3 or 4 of the books and really wasn't impressed. Not terrible, but most were like an average D&D novel.

The tank chase is crap but comeawwn!

Does nothing for me at all, and it has aged horribly. Watched half of it recently and it was like watching a live action cartoon.

I would argue that those games are not ultimately based on the movies/shows, but on the comics/books, because without the original source we wouldn't have them. And the original sources tend to be better than the movies/shows.

For sure the witcher. The first few novels are great, but anything with Ciri in it is Star Wars Prequels bad. The games however are wholely good.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is and I think will always be the king of this for me. One of my favorite games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear the English translation of The Witcher novels is terrible, which may certainly put those below the games. The Spanish translation is legitimately one of the best things I've had the pleasure of reading. It's absolutely incredible and I've seen the translator making the roungs giving speeches at universities and what not. He's more of a historian than a professional translator, and I hear his translation is also a bit unorthodox (most are often a lot more literal and generic to the detriment of the source material). It truly goes the extra mile and lightly uses Old Castilian, coins new words when necessary (really specific historical Polish terminology) and gives very unique voices to every character depending on their social backgrounds. It's such a joy to read. So a flatter English translation could definitely end up passing the novels as your run of the mill pulpy fantasy. But I gotta say, Witcher 3, being one of the best games ever made as it is, is still firmly below the novels when it comes to setting, story and character. It also introduced all of those, let's not forget.

I need to rewatch Pitch Black, but I wanna say I'd put the Riddick game at the same level at the very least. It does such a great job at characterization. I'm sure Vin Diesel had a big role in it.
