though I don't think that contradicts anything I said in my post today?
Well, sure it does. There's a direct contradiction.

Not to mention:

That said, there are two directors I will always support and go see opening weekend. Every single time. I am definitely going to get a lot of shit for this but oh well. Snyder and Bay.

Speaking of Movies, I saw both Spider-Man Homecoming and Baby Driver.

The new Spider-Man was good, a lot more of a Comedy than I thought it would be.

Baby Driver... I think I need to rewatch it again but I liked it. Jamie Foxx's character is a piece of shit in that movie.I felt like the kid playing Baby Driver wasn't good at all, his acting is terrible in it.

I don't have huge expectations with Bay movies. I expect dumb FX setpieces that look cool and weak story and characters. The sexism is always on point (not a compliment). It's like he goes out of his way to make sure the women are shit on.

I'm lukewarm on Snyder. I feel that his ideas on adapting the source material he works with end up being off-base or tone-deaf. Batman killing people really took me out of BvS, for instance. Ultimately, I think his heart's in the right place in trying to make good on the source materials he's working on, but he probably needs people to keep him in check.

Both directors certainly have style on lock. Their movies generally look pretty good and they know how to compose a scene. Each one pretty much developed their signature style. Commonly, slow-mo action shots.

I saw Dunkirk last night.

The first two thirds of the movie were so boring. Pretentious, unbelievably boring shit. No dialogue, no plot. Nothing going on other than beautiful cinematography and music. That beautiful cinematography and music doesn't mean shit to me unless something interesting is actually going on.

I didn't start to like the movie until the last 30 or so minutes. The last 30 minutes.... honestly I think were mesmerizing. Because we took that same beautiful cinematography and music and applied it to sequences that mattered, that were compelling. I finally decided - wow, I need to see what happens to these characters now. It was incredible. Shockingly incredibly how good the last 30 minutes were. The music didn't let up - for 30 straight minutes it kept helping move the plot along and I was intently focused on every little thing happening to the main characters.

But the movie is legitimately boring drivel for the majority of it. It's not worth it to sit through 60+ minutes of pretentious, self-indulgent, masturbatory bits of no-dialogue and no-plot just to get to a really good final sequence. Not when it costs you time and money to get out of the house. Fuck that. This movie should only be watched at home where maybe it won't hurt you to get fucked for 60+ worthless boring minutes before the actual good stuff starts.

Definitely his worst film. And I can see why Fubar had such a negative reaction to it. I give it a 5/10 and the score is only so high because of the final act.

This movie isn't bad in the same way a shitty movie like Gridlock (a no name low budget movie) is bad. This is an expert at his craft, Nolan, making a movie with beautiful cinematography and score but doing everything in his power to throw dialogue and plot out of the window to bore you to tears.

One of my biggest gripes with Bay are the fireworks that he sets off look nothing like explosions in his movies. I appreciate that he's not just using cgi, but it just looks so fake still, and that's really the only selling point of his movies.

I just hate that Bay didn't create, but perpetuated this stupid trend of bad action scenes where you can't see any of the action and every movies that came out in the past 20 years copied that shit

we're ALMOST out of this era now with movies like John Wick, Daredevil (series), Fury Road and Baby Driver, and I hope more directors follow those footsteps because this is what made 80s action movies so good. I wanna see the god damn action, not just a bunch of metal parts and some sparks, stop being so lazy

The Rock is the best movie Bay's ever done.

Absolutely right. One of my favourite movies, period. It's basically Metal Gear Solid in terms of premise, and it actually makes Nicholas Cage tolerable. It's also the best film that Sean Connery was in since Dr. No.

So many quotable lines in that movie. Love it.

Fate said that he tips people who make bad art if they're passionate about it and it really inspired me to launch my career. I know you guys will support me but I'm a little nervous still.

This is even dumber than that Switch thread you started that the NPD guy was laughing about on twitter.

I found London Has Fallen to be.... just incredible
I suspect I'll have a different opinion of Dunkirk.

This is even dumber than that Switch thread you started that the NPD guy was laughing about on twitter.

This comment is bothering me maybe more than it should. At least Calder had some sort of constructive and relevant comment to say to me. Here you're bringing up something totally unrelated. You're just saying "you're dumb for not liking Dunkirk" without actually saying why. What exactly was so dumb about that Switch thread anyhow? I mean the only issue was I didn't realize Switch stock was low.... like seriously, that's it. I don't get why something so innocuous gets you to essentially say "hah twitter is laughing at that thread bro".

I found London Has Fallen to be.... just incredible I suspect I'll have a different opinion of Dunkirk.

I think if we sat down and talked about our favourite movies maybe we'd find we have a lot in common. Maybe not. But I don't think just because I found Dunkirk boring and liked London Has Fallen and you may love Dunkirk and hate London Has Fallen - I don't think that paints any broad picture about both of our taste in movies.

I love Quentin Tarantino movies, Martin Scorsese movies, films like Jason Bourne, Kingsman, etc... and I love pretty much every other Nolan movie.

I'll just say, speaking for myself, I'm not remotely deterred that Michael Bay and LoF fans found Dunkirk boring.

That's fair. Although I'm not too big of a fan of Michael Bay actually. I don't like any of his Transformers movies. But I really really liked Pain And Gain - I found that to be a really good dark comedy.

Loved Dunkirk, although I can see why some people might find it boring. If you're a traditionalist when it comes to character development and narrative structure, you'll probably be bored to tears.

My only complaint is that it was sometimes hard to understand what little dialogue there was.

I saw Dunkirk. I liked it. Loved the sound/music in this picture. I saw the 70mm version for what it's worth (probably not much but hey real film). Still want to see Baby Driver.
