Metroid: Samus Returns amiibo functions revealed; Fusion Difficulty, Fusion Suit

I'd rather have this then not have it in our version at all.

Fusion's Hard Mode wasn't even in the NA/PAL versions, for example.

Fusion has a hard mode?! Got the japanese version on my japanese ambassador 3DS, need to look this up...

I read it through in japanese... I couldn't find all the detailed info but it did say "you can also use amiibo to unluck stuff like concept art after you have beaten the game". This might be the worst amiibo use yet unfortunately. :/
Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it.

I seriously regret buying the only Amiibo that I own (the original Samus Amiibo), I refuse to use it as I don't want to support Nintendo with this practice.

I mean, to be fair, that Samus amiibo at this point does a whole bunch of stuff across many Nintendo games. When you look at it as having bought a Samus figure and then regularly getting bonuses in games (even non-Metroid games) for doing so, it's not so bad.

Having said that, if amiibo is the only way to get a Hard Mode here, eff that noise.

Pathetic if true. But even if it isn't, it speaks volumes that this sounds so realistic coming from Nintendo :lol Count them out if you want modern online/hardware features, but count them in to be top-tier in ripoff tactics and premium prices.

Honestly if someone "pirates" that difficulity mode with their phone + amiibo file etc i find it morally okay in this and BotW's situation with the link tunics.

Some amiibo got so rare these days and 50+ bucks for a amiibo scalpers price wise is insane.

just release amiibo content on the eshop as dlc atleast Ninty...

I can't see it being unlocked by just beating the game... Then why list that as an amiibo feature? It's possible it can be unlocked by clearing some special condition tho, like "beat game in less than xx hours". Impossible to know until either clarification or game release.

I'm reading it that you can unlock those modes either with the Amiibo or finishing the game.

Of course, I could be wrong. Hopefully the Amiibo isn't required for unlock them.

Thought "unlocked after beating the game" was similar to how SFZ used amiibo to unlock things early. Guess it's not confirmed yet.

Seems to be unlockable after beating the game. I see no problems with this.

The description is pretty explicit in that you need the amiibo to unlock these features after beating the game:

Star Fox Zero did the same thing.

They revealed a few things that were unlocked via amiibo and LATER said they could be unlocked just by playing the game.

In resumé, Nintendo sucks at being clear when it comes to this stuff.

This would be consistent with what they said for other amiibo early unlocks. Fox and Falco in Star Fox Zero and Kirby in Planet Robobot were advertised similarly, but everything they unlocked was accessible without them.

That said the ambiguity is terrible so hopefully they clarify soon.

If you need the amiibo for hard mode that is gonna suck frankly. Still not buying amiibos for any reason. I don't mind the concept but I dont want the clutter.

Let's hope! This would be a very Nintendo thing to do, lol.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but we can only really base opinions on the info they give us and atm it is pretty bad.

If its locked to amiibo only instead if like star fox zero is the shittiest implementation of amiibos yet.

Because its not only the fucking amiibo (that i actually planned on buying btw) i have 3ds xl and i wouod have to buy their fucking pi3ce of shit equipment so it can read amiibos and fuck that noise.

This is where i get mad.

When i heard people say but you can beat the game then unlock it ? Yeah i like to finish my game twice (sarcasm mode on)

Are you now trying to complain about it being unlocked behind beating the game (like in pretty much all previous Metroids) too?!

Come on. It's not going to be amiibo exclusive. They will just unlock the stuff with no need to get the requirements (100%, completion time etc). I for one don't want to 100% the game for a difficult mode. But that's definitely going to be an optionq

Edit: Star Fox Zero and Robobot didn't have exclusive modes, for example. It's just a quick and dirty option for lazy people like myself

Not only locked behind amiibo, but you still have to beat the game to actually get it. Nintendo, babe, what you do?

Seems my post from the other thread is in order then.
Locking content behind amiibo would break the convention Nintendo's established with games like Kirby Planet Robobot and Star Fox Zero where you could unlock the amiibo content after completing the game.

I'll believe it when I see it in regards to locked content. Wouldn't be the first time NeoGaf has gone full 'jump-to-conclusions' only to be wrong.

If this is true, then it sucks. I'm fine with amiibo unlocking content early (I'm definitely getting the Metroid amiibo and already got the 2 Smash ones), but locking features such as these behind amiibo only... Now that'd certainly suck for those not interested.

You're a Junior so I assume you don't know this yet: don't bother talking to Spieler Eins. He's grown into "I hate everything Nintendo does now, they betrayed me"-poster number one since a few years ago at least.

Well that's poorly worded in that case. And I hope not, if they end up putting harder difficulties behind a pay will through amiibo, I'll be making tags myself from here on out...

shouldn't this user know your Nintendo-related background too

This is not my perception right now, if you want to make unlockable content because you think people will not enjoy your hard mode before doing a normal run, this is the creator vision (i don't fully understand that, but this is another subject). But give that option to bypass with a 15.99 CAN$ amiibo, this is where i think this is ridiculous and stupid. I like to play my game on hardest difficulty right from the start, and Nintendo hit the mark with this for me, i'm probably not alone.

It's scary how we can go to not trusting official writing when it sounds iffy and doesn't come directly from a dev. I guess that's based on past experiences with Nintendo's PR...
Someone better get ahold of the game director to ask him directly :p

So the part that bothers you is that (potentially) you can bypass the clear-game requirement by using the amiibo instead of being forced to beat like in the older games and your desire to play the absolutely hardest thing right away in turn forces you to buy the amiibo so you don't have to touch a regular playthrough first?

shouldn't this user know your Nintendo-related background too

This again, really?

I've lurked long enough to see what type of shitty drive-by posts he typically makes. Don't worry, but thanks for the warning. :)

Talking about "GAF" being wrong... "Don't be silly, they wouldn't lock a hard mode for Zelda behind DLC, clearly that hard mode in the DLC description is something completely different!"
Which it is? Like I said, I know you make shitty drive-by posts. But doesn't mean you're not wrong. Just like GAF was with the Hard mode on Zelda.

The Fusion Suit thing is very close to how you got it in the first Prime.

105473-full.jpeg

In Prime you had to beat the game at least once and then connect a GBA with Fusion to get the suit.

I feel like like it has to be intentional with the beating the game once part before allowing you to use the suit being the same.

So the part that bothers you is that (potentially) you can bypass the clear-game requirement by using the amiibo instead of being forced to beat like in the older games and your desire to play the absolutely hardest thing right away in turn forces you to buy the amiibo so you don't have to touch a regular playthrough first?

That sounds like a completely valid complaint. Maybe explain your issue with it or are you actually agreeing and I don't get the right read on your tone.
