COMICS!!! |OT| July 2017 | Princess, I've Seen the Way You Look At Me.

So one of the projects I got to work on this year with Rebecca Esptein, GENTLY MURDER ME, comes out tomorrow on Gumroad. It's 43 pages of which I illustrated 7 sequential pages and did 5 covers for. Here is the cover to the installment I did the sequential pages for, "After All, They Made You Who You Are"

The comic is an introspective look at unrequited love, the fantasies we make and the truths we must eventually face in the form of adaptive diary entries.

I'll post up more information tomorrow including a purchase link. The comic will be available for a dollar (or name your price) on gumroad tomorrow

I fucking give up.

Why? You wanted something different this is different. They are only one shots. Would you rather they give them ongoings that get canned 5 issues in and become minis?

Cool seems to be the same power pack artist as Deadpool back in black.

In for Power Pack, Silver Sable and Dazzler. Love that they are keeping that design.

A day or so late.

You posted the covers? I didn't see them.

What a needless attack post.

I like the characters featured, but one-shots feel too limited. Marvel needs to make an honest attempt at "All-New, All-Different." Because they sure as shit didn't the last time. They put in all that marketing bit it was all back to status quo in three months.

WOOF that Not Brand Ecch cover is bad. Already dated dabbing reference? Check. Text arrow pointing out a visual "joke" because you're worried the reader will somehow miss it? Yeesh. I mean, i'll take me some Forbush Man if Marvel wants to give it, but this is beyond "of course the cover is bad! That's the whole point of this comic!" territory.

With that said, i'm down for some Master of Kung Fu, and actually kind of intrigued by Silver Sable.

Just imagine the alternative universe here where all these books were announced as ongoings for the reboot. Are you gonna say that you wouldn't be bitching about how needless they are?

I'm about 90% sure the Spider-Gwen insert is referencing the Frank Cho commission covers too, which no one but extreme weirdos like me are gonna get, and which isn't even a funny joke.

I guess she's seeing Forbush Man's ass and taint? That's the goof?

Ok, I am defending much, but whats the point of Numbering One Shots? I know, people would go crazy again and wooooo its a #1!!!! marvel is satan!!!, but its One Shots. The point of these things is to stand alone.

Marvel needs bigger numbers and people aren't buying, so you take whatever victories you can get

Anyway. Very excited for Branch Ech Non. Marvel tends to be very self-aware in these humor books, so I cant wait to see the Relaunch-Gags. And luckily, these are often very, very good.

I read the first half of Cave Carson Vol 1, and it didn't really grab me yet. The design stuff is cool, but Oeming's art seems like a strange fit to me.

I didn't think Hellcat was half as clever as Squirrel Girl. They went for that tone but Leth isn't as good a writer as EISNER AWARD WINNER Ryan North.

Check the tape. I've been Gwenpool since day one. The second I seen the variant I wanted it.

Hellcat wasn't as off-the-wall clever as Squirrel Girl, but it was cuter, with some really charming lighthearted fluff.

Also, Hellcat actually went true to most characters' personalities. If I have one problem with Squirrel Girl, it's that the villains half the time seem to be randomly yanked from their Silver Incarnation selves [like Dr. Doom] or a random personality change they never exhibited before [Taskmaster].

I mean on its own it's funny, but in the greater canon it's kinda what?

I think that's fine as long as they aren't tying into major events.

It kinda bugged me at least with Task because his entire appeal [in my opinion] is that he's NOT conventionally villainous, and that he ranges from playfully pleasant to apathetic. Seeing him go full-on Skeletor in Squirrel Girl was really weird.

I guess on the bright side, he was really on the ball, considering he was throwing even Hulk around, but still.

Wow I missed the Cho thing the first time. What a bad cover all around.

Others look good at least.

Oh I can see you being bothered as you love tasky so much. It's like how when Harley appears in other books it bothers me how she is characterised. Same goes for when anyone who isn't Hastings writes Gwenpool.

Is Taskmaster a guy behind a Skull mask? Or is he a bonedude?

It's a mask. He's actually quite handsome underneath it:

Yeah, exactly. It kind of reminds me of Laura Kinney in All-New X-Men [or in the short-lived new Ghost Rider reboot]. She's normally so chill and tactical, yet got written as an impulsive, raging Logan-lite, and it bugged the shit out of me.

Obviously with Taskmaster I have a certain tolerance for flexible personality [since he's often a one-off character who has tons of writers in any given year] but the Squirrel Girl situation just felt like you could have put literally any Silver Age villain there in his place and it wouldn't have changed anything. It didn't really feel like Tony.
