'Emoji Movie' Criticized for "Tasteless" 'Handmaid's Tale' Tweet

I actually hope Sony doubles down on making horribly tone deaf and insensitive marketing for Emoji. What's the worst thing the emoji movie could reference in the same style they referenced the handmaiden's tale?

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
when have kids movies been devoid of adult humor? They always have.

I didn't even know what the Handmaid's tale was about.. but still it's a parody. Must have been a slow day for outrage person.

For you.
I'm not caping for this ad, I already said it was stupid. It's poorly thought out and lazy. But it definitely doesn't warrant this level of outrage.
I think you might be suffering of outrage culture yourself if you think a few tweets are a "massive outrage", but sure go ahead and make sure to keep your quick shitposts ready at your fingertips.

I mean there's adult reference like double entendres in the dialogue, and then there's THIS. Pretty major difference.

Is this the same outrage from the women beer thread? Doesn't really matter because parents will still need to take their kids to the movies over the weekend to beat the heat.

Space Jam made a Pulp Fiction reference 20 years ago.

Let's not pretend kids movies haven't always snuck in adult-related references, although maybe not quite as direct and overt as this.
Pulp Fiction is nowhere near a cultural sensitive story as Handmaid's Tale. It's basically "What if Feminism lost?"

I think the issue is that The Handmaid's Tale is about, you know, the forced subservience and rape of women in a society that seems like one we could be headed towards.

It's also about motherhood and shit but that's neither here or there.

It's not worth being "outraged" about but I think it's fair to call it out for being tasteless.

This is extremely dumb and extremely tasteless and they were right to pull it.

Would that Sony would do the same for the film itself.

Yeah I really don't think that people know what it is really about. It's pretty bone-chilling. And it's basically the fantasy end-game scenario for the alt-right.

Sony went from "Seth Rogen cinematic universe" to Ghostbuster reboot to Emoji movie.

I literally can't think of anything lower.

Who has nostalgic feeling about emojis?

Women are dressing like the characters from this show to protest Republican bills that would harm them. Shit is too real to make fun of.

Don't see the problem. Handmaids Tale is fiction. It's not like it actually happened

What part of the story hasn't happened to real women for like the entirety of history up until recently?

We all know SPE sucks ass, but this thread made more interested in Hulu. This Handmaid's Tale show looks somewhat interesting. Between that and Runaways, Hulu might get my interest.

So how is handmaids tale? I went into like episode 4 but stopped. Im kind of annoyed at how farfetched the setting is

Not completely farfetched if you've read any stories from women within...harsh religious families. Look up the fundamentalists who are apart of the 'quiverfull' movement, their bullshit reads pretty similar.

Handmaidens Tale is a great show but incredibly depressing to watch. On the other hand you think to yourself "There are people watching this that don't think this would be so bad."

Yeah but the entire modern usa getting totally taken over is hard for me to buy. I just have so many questions

The point is this wasn't clever at all. There's no pun, no meaning, nothing. They just replaced the woman in the poster with an Emoji and called it a day.

Shit is lazy af.

Yes, while a whole country like the US being changed into a women subjugating society doesn't seem plausible, just take the show as a 'what if' with some truth sprinkled in.

I don't know what's worse: this tweet, the people getting mad about this tweet, or me posting in a thread about people getting mad about an official Emoji Movie tweet.

Definitely the last one.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to seeing the reviews for this piece of shit. The entire movie is an insult to modern society and the art form of motion pictures.
