I really don't understand how a game this fun gets any 84 metacritic. And not only is it fun, the graphics and sound design are just incredible. Is it just because it's a sequel? Not fair in my opinion. This game is a high nine to me.
.
Reviewers take it for granted but it did(the first one)win Best Multiplayer game and Shooter at the Game Awards which was cool.

With how lucrative that Salmon Run can be in the money and ability chunks department, as well as being nearly everyone's first piece of three-star gear, I imagine that the schedule is their way of balancing that aspect as the rewards are specifically for PvP purposes. I do think that they can do a better job of when blocks are scheduled (there's literally no way I could play on Thursday when it's back up), but I don't think that the limit in general is going to go away because of how it's tied to progression.

I used to love the hell out of Splat Zone in the first game, but I just find myself flat out not fucking liking it very much now for some reason. Maybe part because I've been in losing games, but I don't think that's just it. I just don't find it fun at all anymore. Weird, nothing is different about it really, just my taste changed. I love the hell out of Tower Control, though.

I'm still getting communication errors, but only in Regular Battle. It's so weird. Didn't get a single one over the last few days in Ranked or Salmon Run, but still getting them from time to time in Turf War. How weird is that? I don't know what to make of it.

Content is my best guess. I never played the first so I am not sullied by familiarity, but between Salmon Run being locked behind schedule, and a fun yet somewhat repetitive main mode, one could argue there isn't a lot of variety to the game. The single player is pretty much encouraging the idea by feeling like simply something else to do.

What it does, it does well. Just quick to become familiar.

I think if they're dead set on having Salmon Run be a limited event they should at least be up for 24 hours. That way everyone everywhere will have a full day to find the time.

I think it's up for 24 hours Friday to Saturday (starting at 8:00 PM Eastern)...that's what I think was listed on the schedule I saw today...could be wrong though pretty sure I read it correctly

maybe...but the gear is set at just needing 200p so it's pretty easy to get even if you put very minimal time into the mode...I wonder if this will change as it goes along

First game had a similar score, so it's not sequel-itis or anything.

Is it P2P connection based? I lost a connection last night and it didn't toss me to the plaza, and my Internet was fine NAT A etc, maybe there's a case where the host is being disconnected or something which kicks you the odd match here and there?

I never got a good explaination what exactly Salmon Run is...any help?

it's a horde mode...different waves of enemies will spawn and you'll have to beat the regular enemies while also defeating "boss" types for Golden Eggs...each time your team has to get a certain number of Golden Eggs to pass the wave...after 3 waves are done that's the match...as you progress to higher ranks the waves get harder

Here's the reason.

To me it seems like they don't want to split the userbase so fast in the beginning. If the game continues to do well, they'll probably change it in the future.

I can't say I agree. Let the users decide what they like.

This is what their decision is doing to me. I am going to be playing PUBG and not going to be playing Splatoon on their platform tonight. And by their schedule I won't return to Nintendo's platform until Friday because that's the next time my schedule allows for me to play Salmon Run. Seriously, the next time I could even play it is in two days? And it's from 2AM - 2 PM?!

I just turned off my Switch because at the moment I have no interest in playing the available modes.

Ugh a really, really good charger on the other team is so friggin' discouraging. Just had a match where I got splatted like 5 times by the same charger within 10-15 seconds of setting out from the spawn point, no matter which direction of tactic I tried.

Leave me alooooone

After putting in a ton of hours over the weekend I still can't believe I'm playing a game like this on a handheld. It looks and plays so great. It's funny how I feel that way with every new Nintendo game on the platform.

I think the main reason Splatoon gets knocked is just some design choices both games have. The map rotation silliness, the leveling up system being a slog, that kind of stuff. The thing could be outright perfection with just some tweeks here and there, but Nintendo don't give no fucks.

Yeah, but it's just weird it only seems to happen in Regular Matches. It may just be a huge coincidence, I guess.

I'd gladly take lower rewards in exchange for having the mode available 24/7.

Last Salmon run, we made it at 180 with someone AFK... Feels great.

There's players that don't get it, though... Last ten seconds, the quota isn't met for a singke egg, there's two players with an egg. I rush to open them a path and cover them. What do they do when they're clear? Rush toward a boss, of course.

When you lose nearly a bar (and a rank) because of this, it's utterly annoying :(

Well, the furst got lower scores because at launch it was half-baked.

I'm not sure I understand, I fear some think it's a port...

Ranked pays better (especially when you reach the last capsule, 4000 or a random shard for 200 pts?)

And it's easy to order a 3 star item from the plazza right from the start. Besides, it only gives you one...

Nah, I don't think reviewers see it that way at all. It just has a lot of the same flaws as the first game that is just annoying.

Please help me with my bad english
So you're telling me that on top of all that this game already has, they'll publish free updates for a whole year?! Logging in 1000 hours might not be a stretch.

Tried Salmon Run properly last night, got shirt and a bunch of items I have no idea what... I recognise the tickets, but some are just like ability icons... I should take a screenshot next time.

Despite being Blow's go-to hand-holding developer, this game has so many things unexplained... Well, doesn't help that my game is Japanese, and my Japanese is just barely OK.

Just discovered I had been playing Salmon Run the wrong way the entire time. I thought it was a mode about gathering eggs. But it is actually about babysitting three hyperactive children who like to hang out near dangerous green liquid.

I will admit, it is making me want to learn how to play Charger. Been finding I really like picking off those green bulb guys from a distance.

From what I can tell points are being taken off because you can't change weapons between matches, team up for turf wars, or leave a lobby before the match start.

They're ability chunks. You can use them with the little sea urchin dude to the right of the Lobby. If you get enough (ten?) you can put that ability on any clothing item you want.

It does extremely little to fix the glaring issues of Splatoon 1 and has a handful of new baffling design choices of its own, such as Salmon Run being limited. 84 is honestly higher than I would give it, and I adore both it and Splatoon 1.

All very legitimate complaints. Also everything involving the voice chat and app/setting up lobbies being in an app in the first place rather than just in the game.

I'm sure this was mentioned but the B- requirement to play with friends (other than Splat Zone) is horse shit. There are several aspects I dislike in this game, but that is by far my least favorite. Is there any chance Nintendo gets rid of that lame ass requirement? And here's a preemptive fuck you to anyone who says "git gud":)

I guess my friend and I will play Salmon Run. Oh wait.

If there's one thing that I like about Salmon Run that the rest of the game doesn't quite do, it's forcing players to try weapons they don't normally play with and getting proficient with them :)

I feel the same way. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I guess it must be a combination of many factors; different specials, better maps for zones in the original, and lots of new comers still learning the ropes. Whatever the case, splat zones feels a lot more cluttered and chaotic now. Splat zones used to be my jam, but now I'm enjoying the other ranked modes more. Don't get me wrong though, they are all still amazingly fun.

The single player counts too! Also, something I learned from the original; observing skilled players maining a certain weapon does encourage you to get better with said weapon. It's good marketing when someone wrecks you and your teammates with a weapon you thought was garbage. I've come to learn that all the weapons in Splatoon are incredibly well balanced.
(I can't say the same about severely gimped specias like the sting ray).

Aw heck yeah, my Slosher is certified FRESH. I feel good about it too, because I went on a killer 5-win streak where I was doing very well every round. Fear the bucket!

I dropped so hard in Salmon Run because of disconnects damn. Back to poor pay grade lol.

The current stage layout is the most challenging yet. I love it.

Is there a way to disable the stupid Pearl and Marina stage overview every time I boot up the game? It's driving me insane. Takes too long. Banter is annoying. Why can't the game just have a damn plain menu instead of having to deal with the "freshness" of it all?

Yep you gotta carry the team, because always seems that the other players don't know how to play it lol

The problem is not "git gud". At this moment there's too many veterans in rank, some C+ matches looks like they're playing in S+. Things won't get better until Switch's stock problem fixed and more newbies come in. You don't need to be good to carry C rank teams singlehanded and go to B- in Splatoon 1.

Don't close your system. Just sleep mode it.

Last Salmon Run started at midnight in New Zealand and it was finished when I woke up. They should look into the timetable for it a bit better.

Why boot the game every time when you can just let it in standby?

On another note, during the segment I noticed that the audience in the background are the ones that are actually the ones placed looking at the glass door in Inkopolis Square. Nice touch.

Been rotating between Splatoon on Wii U and this the last couple hours. See a bunch of Japanese players on Wii U but haven't played against any on Splat 2. Servers set up differently?

Having connection issues at times. Got the warning message saying it's suspicious. Lol.
