In-N-Out Burgers not coming east. Steak N Shake still secretly the best.

I never liked In N Out. Too little meat, too much lettuce, and their fries are fucking gross. Your options are soggy or burnt to a crisp. And don't get me started on Animal Style (who wants mustard cooked onto their meat, bleh).

Then don't get lettuce or ask for light lettuce. I agree on the fries, I've never liked 'em. Animal Style (or just asking for mustard fried patties) is delicious, tho.

The thing about In-N-Out for me has always been price, consistency, and the fact it has a very particular taste that you can only get at In-N-Out. It's very good, but it'll always lose out to more expensive places like Five Guys in terms of pure taste, IMO. I've missed it dearly since leaving California. For the record, Dick's in Seattle is not a suitable substitute -- it's just shittier for the same price.

Look at this:

It's a < $4 burger. Come on now.

With that said, I've never liked In-N-Out's fries, well done or not.

Ketchup instead of in-n-outs signiture spread? Gross dude

I wish they were here on price alone.

But I mean, they're so many great burger joints in NYC, not having one chain isn't really hurting much.

This place only one has location a couple of blocks from where I live. If you ate here, you would forget In-N-Out fucking exists:

There are places like this all over the East Coast. We don't need no fucking In-N-Out.

Plus Shake Shack, Ray's Hell Burger, etc. though I find those overrated as well.

Big Buns, bitches.

Googling the name, Big Buns is like twice as expensive as In-N-Out. Obviously it should be better at that price.

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
LOL my burger is too moist? First I've heard of someone wanting a dry burger. They don't have a bunch of fucking filler in their patties, so yeah you get a greasier, tastier burger. To each their own on the ketchup, that's why you can tell them to hold it.

I honestly find their burgers bland. Probably McDonald's is the only chain whose burgers are more bland. Like you said to each their own

No way any of these burgers are less than $10. Stop comparing accessible fast food burgers to gourmet burgers that are 3x the price.

This is why I just get the fries animal style too.
Shit's delicious.

Also everything should be prefaced by the price of In n Out.
If I'm buying a $8 burger from The Habit, it better fucking well be better than most any other burger. That's an entire meal at In n Out otherwise.

Smothering them in spread sauce and cheese makes it ok. When I do get the fries it's definitely animal style, and when I get a shake it's always Neapolitan.

The fries have always been In-N-Outs weak link but that doesn't bother me because I always swap them out for a Flying Dutchman. I could eat three of those by themselves as a meal.

I don't live in a state that has In-N-Out, but when I traveled and tried it, I was amazed at the price-vs-quality of it. It's ridiculously cheap and reasonably great. Tried the animal style on my first visit, btw, which is pretty unique compared to the options I typically have available.

That comment about Five Guys vs In-N-Out for price is ridiculously off base. I just had Five Guys yesterday and it took weeks to psych myself up to pay that much -- they make my favorite burgers out of the range that I have available locally, but I could probably order my In-N-Out order 3 times for a single meal at Five Guys... C'mon.

Not mine, it's a buddy's snap :p My orders are always:

4x4
mustard grilled patties
spread sauce
chopped grilled onions
whole grilled onions
chopped chillies
ONLY

Boom.

that sounds like a beautiful disaster

but also the thought of eating a 4x4 is causing me pain

When we first moved here we were suggested Dick's. We went once. We had no idea why people thought it was any good. Even the fries were not so good (I think they were soggy but that was so long ago the only impression I remember was that we didn't like it).

The fries are literally a potato and oil. That's how it's supposed to taste. I stan for McD's, but their fried aren't how regular fries are supposed to taste.

If I wanted regular I wouldn't be eating fast food in the first place!

McDonalds fries are some crack

That's one way to justify liking bad fries, I guess.

For real. Like natural fries have to be bad for the sake of being natural. You can season that shit. At the very least some salt and pepper. Just because their fries are fresh does not excuse them for being crap.

Typically got one on the way home to enter into a food coma and watch TV, and it definitely got the job done. Man, all this In-N-Out talk is REALLY making me miss it =(

Dick's is really not that good. I have a Dick's literally underneath my balcony (Broadway/Cap Hill) and the smell of the patties being freshly grilled is actually nice sometimes, and I'll try to run down and grab a fresh burger around that time, when they're a bit better. With that said, the fries ARE soggy and unremarkable and the fact they don't allow any modifications makes the cheeseburger a bit too bland and the Deluxe a bit too ... busy. I'm not a huge fan of the mayo/chopped pickle spread, but for those who like it a lot I can see it being better.

Dick's does become about 5x better when you're drunk at 1am, though. Still not good enough to come even close to In-N-Out any other time.

God, Cocoichibanya needs to be everywhere in the States. I want curry whenever the hell I want, and I don't always feel like cooking it myself.

Coco and Curry House should spread out more I agree. And heck with just burgers, why can't we get some cheap and fast okonomiyaki places in the US? Or some empanadas or salteñas.

And you guys are being some serious fry apologists, they don't taste fresh, they taste starchy and unseasoned. If you have to put animal sauce glop on them to hide their lack of potato flavor, then you know there's something off with the recipe. We can cook better fries at home than what you get at In N Out.

St. Louis has Steak and Shake, Freddy's Steak Burgers, 5 Guys, and we are getting 2 Shake Shacks (1 opening next month).

As someone who grew up in St. Louis and lives in LA, Steak n Shake ain't shit. Not really on the same level as any of the other regional burger chains that always come up. The Patty melt is good though.

In-n-Out is the most overrated burger shop in the nation. My entire family were so excited to go when we went to California, all took one bite then felt betrayed and lied to.

Sure they're cheap, but they're no better than any half decent burger place, and their fries are painfully mediocre. I still prefer Five Guys by far.

I tried a Steak and Shake last year in SC. Wasn't too bad.

Again, we have nothing so we have to envy all the places people say aren't all that.

they spendin too much on avocado toast i guess

We have avocado groves. If you buy direct from the growers then avocados are cheap AF.
Stay losing.

Yes. Plenty of places make their fries with only fresh potatoes, oil, and salt and they're delicious. In-N-Out's fries suck because they suck at making fries, it has nothing to do with the freshness.

In-n-Out's only real competition in the price range is Whataburger (and even that is more expensive, but definitely better and at least still cheap).

In-n-out really is unremarkable. I will never forgive gaf for the betrayal of hyping me up into to thinking it was special. It was more disappointing than scribblenauts.

I will fucking never understand the love for Five Guys.

It's overpriced garbage. It's any burger I could make in a fucking skillet on a stove, cept for like 7 dollars. Absolutely nothing exceptional about their burgers.

To each their own though.
