Mighty No.9 Backers are starting to receive the physical edition and oh boy...

Nah, I'm a Bloodstained backer and I was pleased with last year's e3 demo. And this year's e3 demo is even better.

Neither IGA nor Yu Suzuki are Inafking so I'm not worried. Also IGA kicked Inticreates to the curb.

Hey, if there is one thing I will stick up for in this MN9 mess, it's that Inti Creates got the short end of the stick in this deal.

They've been consistently nailing it with their 2D games: the Mega Man Zero series, Mega Man 9 & 10, the Gunvolt series, Blaster Master Zero, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, and so on. That's their strength.

They do make solid titles. Mighty No. 9 was just badly directed. Whatever happened with Bloodstained is probably in regards to a lack of strength with 2.5D titles.

TL;DR - Put some respect on the Inti Creates name. MN9 is but an unfortunate speedbump. They can do and have done much better.

I think Inti Creates got out of this with their reputation in tact. Comcept and Inafune not so much.

I would hate for them to get a bad name for this after all the great 2D games they've produced before and since Mighty No 9

Mighty No. 9 should be an assist trophy for smash and replace the puppy's ability of blocking the screen with all the names of the kickstarter backers.

Not all of them, just one.

Indeed. They have Fantastic output. Excluding gal gun that is.

Better to assemble the box yourself than to have a pre-assembled box crushed in transit, I say.

The manual not fitting is hilarious though.

Kickstarter page also said full color manual, which it isn't. Said it came in the box too, which it doesn't.

😂
I want to see the Western style manual before going "they said full color!"

And I want to see how Famicom manuals normally look. I'll dig around online about that.

This is why I don't back anything on kickstarter.

There's a risk with everything, and if you don't like risks, then you're doing the right thing.

I myself have backed 5 kickstarters, on the levels required for a physical copy. Broken Age, Massive Chalice, Moebius, Wasteland 2 and Broken Sword 5. And they all delivered.

The only incident with those boxes was that Broken Sword 5 sent a copy with a Steam version of the game, but after being criticized for that, the devs answered with sending out new discs with a DRM free version.

So it really shouldn't be that difficult to deliver the physical rewards in satisfactory way.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's dumb that the manual doesn't fit, but there's no way all of these people thought "physical game box" meant an actual copy of the game, despite the absurd price.

Don't think it's hard to believe that some people thought (possibly just forgot) the thing they backed in 2013 was a physical copy. Iirc it was referred to as the physical tier in updates as well. And with the real physical version that came out latter costing only 30$ it not hard to believe that people though the 60$ they pledged would get them a physical copy.

I dunno, occasionally something wonderful comes out of it. Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero was a kickstarter game and it was brilliant. As was Yooka Laylee...though Yooka kinda started out shit and has gotten better as it's been patched.

It's a total crapshoot whether or not the game ends up like hot garbage.

Yep, it's even more baffling that this turned out badly considering how many games they made with Inafune to boot.
I mean how many Megaman games they have done together at this point?
How the fuck do a Megaman type type game manages to falter that much from them?

I agree. Inti Creates seems to have been able to get through this mess largely unscathed.

Comcept and Inafune, meanwhile, got hit with a one-two punch of Mighty No. 9 and ReCore. While the latter wasn't bad, it wasn't really all that great either and the former was a complete train wreck. I think if ReCore had been a better game and not largely forgettable with its own host of problems Comcept and Inafune could have salvaged their respective reputations from the ashes of MN9.

If there's ever an university course for video games, this is the game they will be using as the case study on crowdfunding.

I'm against Kickstarter, but again they are not obligated to delivery a product to pledges; the incentives are merely sweetners that have unfortunately become the main draw for backers.

I think it was because of the engine they used and tried to put it on as many platforms.

Plenty of games in the past were totally worth backing tho.

Shit, stuff like the Mighty No. 9 fiasco only makes it even harder for honest indie devs that aren't messing around to get funding for their games. And it was already hard to begin with,

Thanks, Inafune.

Are there any pictures in the wild of the usb drives yet? Im pretty sure i paid for one of those...

I'm kind of afraid to see what the final versions look like.

Did they backers get the "includes all previous rewards" or was it just this they got in the end?

The previous rewards was a digital game code, soundtrack and the typical forum badge fluff stuff most entry tier rewards include.

Here's the thing, your gonna get one failed Kickstarter. It happens. I've had two Kickstarters fail on me but for the most part I've made some smart investments in projects from people that I know can make something happen. I've had more good than bad which is what most people will tell you. Now, not all my Kickstarters are from games which might be the problem. I know books and music don't have this problem.

Here's the thing, I'm not going to donate to a Kickstarter, the ultimate pre-order, because I don't know for sure if the game will be any good. I don't care who is working on it or what pedigree it comes from.

But it's fine that you do. Someone has to help fund the game. And if it's good, I'll gladly buy the finished product. I own Shovel Knight and both Boss Monster card games.

I'm pretty sure we already knew there was no physical version included in the box, but I thought there'd at least be a download code...and the box would be assembled lol.
Wait, people that backed the box didn't even received a download code when the game launched?

They are technically correct. The best kind of correct.

I often look at expensive things in the store and wonder how little they actually cost to produce compared to their price. I think, along with the humiliation and shame gravity instilled in this cardboard flap, this is one of the worst ones anyone here could think of.

I also quote that line whenever I can. very good post would quote again.

I feel the opposite about IntiCreates really. I liked their games when they made games for Capcom under the supervision of Capcom directors - MMZ, MM9, MM10. But after that relationship ended they have been nothing but disappointments. MN9 never interested me since the pitch so I didn't back it. Gunvolt was a huge disappointment, Gunvolt 2 looks like more of the same. Mighty Gunvolt Burst is a bit better but still lacks many things I enjoy in action platformers and it is a very superficial implementation of the MM formula. Blaster Master Zero is a mediocre game which slavishly remakes a not so great game to begin with, and is way too easy. The less we say about Galgun the better.

IntiCreates is clearly very talented in making good looking 2D games, but I have zero faith in their talent for making 2D games I actually find satisfying to play anymore. I'm glad they're off Bloodstained and that increases the odds that I will be at least interested in yet another Igavania borefest, instead of writing it off completely.

Mighty No. 9 is the best thing to have ever happened. It's so entertaining. Not from the game, but watching the process unfold as I warned people for backing this project. I warned people on this forum, and I warned my friends. Now I'm just reaping the schadenfreude.

This is honestly not funny anymore. Backers should start some sort of legal action or something because this shit is simply unnaceptable. Just wow...

Yes people are complaining just to shit on the game some more at this point. This was never hidden.

They never promised it would fit in the box. And since no one has taken pictures of the manual we don't know if it is color or not.

at what point should that have to be promised? No one has ever had to make this claim ever because it's never been an issue and I can only imagine never would be again. even Lunar's big hardcover manual fit in the same box as the game. Decency shouldn't have to be promised.

Of course, whilst that image does confirm that a physical copy of the game was never promised, it STILL contains an outright lie. Namely that the manual would be shipped to you inside the box, when in reality it was not only sent seperately with a flat-packed box, but isn't even capable of fitting inside the box once assembled.
Yes because an unassembled box is the same as not receiving a physical copy (that you weren't getting anyway). It takes 30 seconds to fold a box together. The manual not fitting is fucked up though.
