Bosses you felt bad for killing

I remember when playing Far Cry 4, I was so fed up with those damn rebels that I didn't want to kill Pagan Min. They were worse than him. They were using you. In some bizarre kind of way, Pagan Min was the only character that cared for you in that game. So when the ending arrived and I was able to spare Pagan Min, I was both surprised and impressed. I didn't expect it at all. It improved the ending a lot for me. I even remember thinking more games should let you spare the "villain".

Unfortunately, most don't. And that's why I decided to make this thread. Because there are plenty of bosses out there that people probably wish they didn't have to kill. Maybe you agreed with their arguments, maybe they weren't all that bad... or maybe death was just too much for them.

In my case, it would be Sif from Dark Souls. When he starts to limp, it's just too much. From, you goddamn bastards. Why did you have to make me this sad? I will never forget this fight :_;7

Just about everything in Monster Hunter honestly. That and Shadow of the Colossus. Just a bunch of Monsters/Giants doing their own thing when random assholes come and brutally stab/slash them to death.

For a second I thought this was Off-Topic and I thought ya'll were out here killing your employers.
Answer tho:
Emerl from Sonic Battle

There's this dude named Sol in Final Fantasy Legend III that you have to kill. He has some kind of parasite in him that turns out to be the last boss, but to release it you have to continually wail on this guy (who doesn't fight back) while super sad music plays.

Been forever since I played it but it made an impression on me.

Quite a few of the bosses in Metal Gear Solid.

Specifically, Sniper Wolf. This was actually the part that sort of got across to me that games could be emotionally affecting in ways that I hadn't thought possible. MGS1 still the GOAT IMO.

Nier the thread. The game makes sure to tell you how much of monster you were for all the bosses you killed playing through the game again.

I knew Sif would be in the OP, lol
... 'cause that's kind of my answer as well.

Yeah, Sif and Priscilla are the only bosses I've felt any remorse about killing. Sif especially because I could never hurt a dog (Yes, aware he's a wolf but that's close enough to dog for me)

Mustafa from Fire Emblem Awakening, especially after stuff happened in the game and the OST just rubs it into your face.

Mustafa's just doing his job and he did nothing wrong!

Hope you spared his men like he requested you to do so...

DJ Octavio from Splatoon sort off dude just wants some land to live on with his species + let some enjoy his DJ skills.

Although he does some shady stuff tho (like trying to start a full war between squids and octarians again and
brainwashes some of his own species to fight for him with his music
) so i guess he deserves to be stopped.

He does not die tho but still.

None of the bosses mentioned so far made me feel bad, especially maiden Astraea. If you want to talk Daemon's Souls then I felt bad for killing Garl Vinland, who was stuck protecting Astraea, aka the most corrupt enemy in the entire game.

Nier the thread. The game makes sure to tell you how much of monster you were for all the bosses you killed playing through the game again.

The only ones who didn't really deserve to get killed in NieR were Devola and Popola who were brainwashed and brutally manipulated, the others got their due punishment and some, like Roc, got off VERY easy.

Infamous 2 evil ending
Zeke Dunbar (creator of the Dunbar Beam)

The worst part for me was that
there was no way he could kill you at that point, you were too powerful. But he tried.

Since you mentioned Sif, Maiden Astraea and her protector Garl Vinland. She accepted a Demon soul to assist those abandoned babies and help the defiled inhabitants. And then I killed her...

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
That one in Prey that has your girlfriend attached. I mean, it was meant to be cruel and make you feel like shit.

That Blooper boss in Mario Sunshine

You FUCKING RIP OFF HIS LIMBS ONE BY ONE

It was such a weirdly brutal thing to see in a Mario game and I'm not surprised they haven't done anything similar since. It's the only time I felt bad for a Mario enemy.
