Senate healthcare repeal bill fails - Collins, Murkowski, and McCain voted no

I think you can criticize McCain for his record, thank him for not voting for this, and still think some people went beyond the pale in their comments. Not a totality, not a group, but individuals.

I'll admit I was not happy with McCain voting the discussion through and to get to this point, but god damn did he lay down the law last night. Good shit.

Also Trump's tweets don't even make sense. He didn't even get 51 votes. He wont get 51 votes if he continues with this shit.

And what? You think threatening people's health and lives doesn't warrant that reaction? That wasn't my reaction but then again my healthcare was not in jeopardy. When you're in a scary situation like that, you can judge.

Agreed.

There is no 'if' to this, Collins and Murkowski have been vocally against it from the beginning

Which is exceptionally frustrating I'm sure. Everyone is congratulating McCain, calling him a patriot/hero, etc. and basically ignoring the two woman who have been fighting the good fight the entire time. Why? Cause McCain is terminally ill and it went against his normal legacy.

Yeah, at that point in time he already voted for the worst version of the health care bill. So fuck him still.

You linked to the thread where he did something stupid. Surely you meant to link to something where people criticised him wrongly?

Artful criticisms like "I'm happy he's going to die from brain cancer". In this case, it turns out, cancer wasn't a good thing. Cancer can be really hit or miss.

Yup. I agree with all of this.

Those of you accusing him of voting yes the other day to setup a "hero moment" for himself last night are fucking way way way off track, and frankly it scares me a little.

I'm kind of whatever about it since he ultimately helped kill the bill, and I just don't have the energy or inner vitriol to tell an 81-year-old with brain cancer to go fuck himself in the last week or two. But he absolutely set this up as a hero moment for himself.

He could have killed the bill by just staying home. He could have killed the bill by putting out a statement from home. He could have killed the bill by not voting to proceed. He could have killed the bill by signaling his intention to vote No on everything. He could have killed the bill at literally any point before 1:30 AM, telling people to "watch the show" and giving a big dramatic thumbs down in front of the entire Senate. That's not how it just naturally played out.

Again, whatever, that's how he wanted to roll. It was for drama. The bill's dead, good.

Who's the blonde girl on the left?

On the day of that thread he deserved it. He doesn't today.

I never wished death on him and I won't go back on what I said.

Last night he saved us from something horrible we didn't think we could prevent.

'A good act doesn't wash out the bad, nor a bad the good' I believe it goes.

A person is all things they have done.

Shame he didn't die fast enough.

He's voting yes.
Fuck him and hope he burns in hell.

If only that brain cancer got to you sooner. Good work on continuing the push to ruin millions of American lives.

It takes a special kind of evil to do what McCain is doing. I'm hoping he has a massive fucking hemorrhage on the flight. Fuck him.

I am all for criticizing someone, but calling for someone's death is downright disgusting. It does absolutely nothing to further your cause.

Nah, I think he really wanted to give his buddies a chance. Maverick or not, he is a loyal guy. Once the writing was on the wall, super clear, that this wasn't going to conference, that was the turning point.

Again, just my interpretation.

Amazing that the Senator who lost the presidency to Obama is the vote that protected Obama’s signature law
It's crazy you have to even say this. McCain is a good man, he's a politician and he only had political disagreements with Obama, but they can also have things they agree with.

He had already voted to strip people of their healthcare. Sorry you expect well wishes to come out of that but not everyone wants to pretend he is wonderful and not deserving of scorn.

I don't expect well wishes. I would hope people are better than "I'm going to root for cancer this time."

But maybe it's me who is out of line.

Posters expressing genuine anger, fear, malaise, and distrust for our representatives not advocating in good faith for their future wellbeing. His party is holding American lives under duress for spiteful reasoning and he was on a plane to seemingly help them out. Reactions were natural, and they changed to gratitude for doing the right thing. Please stop demonizing the fearful victims and demanding vindication.

Do they think El Trumpo would let them keep their guns?
Maybe he would just take them from Liberals....

They should just look at Russia because that's Trump's inspiration. And you're not allowed to own guns there either.

Trump wants to pillage the US much like Putin is robbing Russia.

Agreed.

Morally gray characters are more interesting.

McCain is Theon Greyjoy.

Again when it affects you losing your or a family members healthcare go ahead and play the sap. Not everybody wants to. Some are and were angry and rightfully so.

What I'm seeing is that you have 0 points to be made but are trying to shame GAF as a whole for a perfectly valid response to a man willing to hurt millions of Americans.

McCain has done nothing to warrant any sort of niceties from this community or any American citizen. What part of him wanting to still rip healthcare away from people are you not understanding?

He voted 'no' last night and that's great. His reasons for doing so are suspect and not virtuous. He's not had a change of heart over the issue.

If you want to put the man on a pedestal and suck his cock, that's good for you. Just don't shame other people for not wanting to join you.

No, it is important. It is just more important to fuck millions over.

The horrors of my comment. How do I sleep at night?

Get off your high horse. People were calling him out for being fortunate enough to have govt healthcare. When people would go bankrupt if they were faced with the same situation. At a time when he held people's healthcare in his hands.

woot so we're back to the holier-than-thou, all human lives are precious no matter what, you all are disgusting mode, because of this vote? when/if he votes to strip away healthcare again do we swing back? i need to know the rules here gosh darn it

ill hold the door open for someone today to absolve me of anything bad ive done this week

Well, both my wife and I work in healthcare, so we could lose our jobs too. Not nearly on the same level as someone dying (which would apply to my FIL). I understand anger.

Well, Trump just tweeted he wants to end the 2/3rd's rule in favor of a simple majority, so I'm guessing he called Putin this morning and asked for advice on how to up-end the Democratic process.

It's ridiculous. People were expecting a piece of shit with a career of shitty votes to vote shitty one last time. He did good, but the hate people have for him is more than warranted.

It got worse. Much much worse. Was really grotesque.

Getting cancer doesn't make you a good person. Voting no on something that shouldn't have even been an option doesn't make you a good person either. If you enabled this administration daily people are going to hate you. Are we really going to pretend that McCain is a great guy? He ran with Sarah Palin. That should be enough to shut down any discussion.

So how could you not understand people lashing out? We had one poster who would have lost access to chemo and others who would be left with no healthcare at all. Yet you're concerned about how McCain gets treated in a thread, even though he wanted to repeal it all, which effects nothing tangible.

Yup. I agree with all of this.

I hear the Republicans' next attempt at health care reform will include subsidies for pearls to clutch and couches to faint on for you guys.

Why is that crazy? He already voted in favor of destroying Obamacare with a full replacement, just because that particular vote failed doesn't mean he didn't try.
