10000% agree.

I was so disappointed when TFV came out - I really tried to like it, but it's so hard to look at or even tell what's going on.

Thunderforce 2, 3 and 4 are still some of my favorite Genesis games, and easily my favorite shooter series.

With Sega now holding the rights, I hope they give a dev a shot at making a full blown sequel (with sprites!). Similar to how they are treating Sonic Mania.

I know it'll never happen - but I can dream.

I know right?

I mean, look at what the difference going from vertically scrolling Elemental Master on MD to Blast Wind on Saturn,

Edit: Now granted, Elemental Master isn't pushing the MD hardware, it came right after TFIII and long before TFIV. Just an example of like for like (pure 2D sprites) going from MD to Saturn in a vert. scrolling shmup. -- Also, I know about Hyper Duel, I've played the arcade version emulated. It's pretty impressive but wasn't originally made on Saturn / ST-V Titan hardware, even though it was ported to Saturn with a visually enhanced / reworked Saturn mode. Anyway, Thunder Force V could've been a far, far more impressive and better game had it been made in the style and spirit of TF IV. I don't think I'll ever find another shmup as well made in that same style, and yeah, I've played Gley Lancer and Eliminate Down. Don't get me wrong, they're both very good, just not TFIV-good!

Another thing...How in the HELL did Tatsujin Ou / Truxton II not get ported to the Saturn?

I know about the FM Towns Marty port, but still...

The official announcement is still forthcoming but M2's bringing Mahou Daisakusen to PS4, with a prospective fall release window.

I had the PCB for a while, but wound up trading it.

It's amazing - but like the original Truxton, the game is super hard. It suffers from the same problem Gradius has – die and lose all your power-ups, making a hard game near impossible.

Don't get me wrong – I loved it. The graphics, presentation and music are some of Toaplan's best. But I traded it for Batsugun, which is far superior imo.

Would love a Truxton collection by M2 on PS4. With a remixed mode that makes the game more fair. ;-)

This is cool. Admittedly haven't played mahou daisakusen but I've sunk a ton of time into great mahou daisakusen.

I'm kind of excited

i think it was back in october or november 2016 that i saw m2 reply to a guy on twitter saying they were looking into releasing the games in other regions, nothing since.

Ahh I see. Well I won't hold my breath.

Anyway guys, enjoy like those Parodius article scans? I wish I could find more scans including some for Sexy Parodius.

GameFan also covered at least some of the Parodius games, but forgot which issues had them.

Not actually that important
Just grabbed Strikers 1945 on Switch.
Awesome surprise! Didn't know it was coming :O
For the price it's a steal but too bad it's a bit half-assed with no online leaderboards and yet another half-assed TATE/Portrait mode and again with the nasty blur filter mandatory if you choose to have scanlines.

Still, it's a freaking Psikyo shmup!
Later in the day the glorious Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings 2 should go up on the eShop.

It's fall 2017.

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense. Announcing a game of this type 18 months before launch seemed a bit weird.

For anybody who is interested, Aero Fighters 2 was released yesterday as part of the ACA NeoGeo collection on PS4.

I wonder if they have any more releases planned. I'd definitely jump on Sengoku Blaede if it's in the cards.

What's wrong with the tate mode? (I haven't played it yet)

You can rotate the controls but only as joycon L and joycon R, meaning you can play the game as if it was a hori shooter but it's impossible to play in handheld mode TATE using the "bottom" joycon to move and shoot

Wow, that's a really silly oversight. I hope it gets patched.

That's a Nintendo thing, they don't let developers support tate controls with the joycons attached due to concerns about stressing the connection on the mounting rail.

What would you say are the best 16bit shmups?

Lightening Force on Genesis is super fun. On the SNES side I really like R-Type 3 but I'm probably alone on that lol. Pulstar on Neo Geo is really good too. Turbo/PCE is technically an 8-bit system, but there are a lot of good ones there as well. Soldier Blade is amazing if you can stomach the price.

Playing tabletop TATE with Strikers 1945 on Switch is a thing of pure bliss.

All this Raizing love... I hope titles that haven't previously got a home port like Bakraid or Batrider are next.

This. Home ports of those two are long overdue and would have been far more preferrable than another (surely great) Ketsui port. Hopefully Mahou being ported is a good sign they'll be bringing the rest of Raizing's shmup lineup eventually.

Thanks for the scans, Amy S. Parodius is my favorite SHMUP series hands down so this is fun to see.

No problem! It's so much fun to find these.

I've been trying to decide if I wanna get Sexy Parodius or the Detana Twinbee Yahoo! Deluxe Pack.

Go for Sexy Parodious over the Twinbee pack, I found them to be really dated games with an absolutely infuriating power up system.

Personally I would go for Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius over Sexy, but really they are all very good ports of great games.

Sexy Parodius for sure, but the Twinbee pack is pretty cheap, you should be able to get it for around €20,-

My vote is for Sexy Parodius as well. Such a brilliant game. :D
But Twinbee for $20? I certainly wouldn't pass that up either. But after Parodius. ;)
