Ok seriously, wtf is up with this damn incessant bigotry of late? It's f*cking everywhere.

Google, someone at google thought this was a good idea?
I bloody despair.

Excpect "ideological diversity" to be a key argument/tactic for the right and far-right in order to use the principles of liberalism to take over spaces and places. Just like
'freedom of speech' has been used to promote fascism and neo-nazism or 'religious tolerance' for trans- and homophobia, so will 'ideological diversity' be used to dominate and oppress via liberal principles.

Kind of incredible how quickly conservatism has become synonymous with sexism and bigotry. Bush for all of his failings was putting the Republican party and US conservatives on a path where only a person's beliefs mattered and they could bring conservative women and minorities under the Republican umbrella but that seems like a lifetime ago now.

Never left. It became covert. The internet has helped open a megaphone to capture it. But most minorities have never felt it was gone.

Bush crashed the world economy, committed war crimes, killed (hundreds of) thousands of civilians, established unconstituional agencies, created Guantanmo, etc.

Conservatism in the US has always been bigoted. Reagan, Bush Sr., Nixon, etc. All bigoted motherfuckers who have inflicted a ton of pain and misery on people across the world, especially in the US.

"It's more important for me to be able to express my hatred of women and minorities than it is for women and minorities to have a place here"

Basically. Such a trrrible mindset that display a complete lack of understanding. And empathy. And a lack of knowledge about the wider world.

Those were the failings I mentioned. They're major failings and I didn't mean to downplay them but he was trying to get the Republican party away from demonizing American minorities even as he made life worse for brown people across the globe.

so why is right wing ideology famous among asians and south asians?

Famous? There are right wing and left wing Asians and South Asians. And in the US, white people vote right wing way more than either of them. If we're talking about the alt right, that's predominantly white. If we're talking about potential non-white people who might think the same way as the guy who wrote the screed, I would assume the same dynamics would apply.

I'm not really sure what you're aiming for.

"Ideaological diversity" sounds like a line "moderates" on GAF would use. Expect to hear that one a lot more

It's exactly the same "use the left's language against them" bullshit they always do.

Diversity? Ideological diversity!
Tolerance? "So much for the tolerant left" (when they call out racism/sexism, etc)
Black Lives Matter? All lives matter! Blue lives matter!
Fake news on right-wing Facebook? No, CNN and NBC are Fake News!

Seriously, it's straight up 8th grade debating skills.

so it's fair to say Silicon Valley has more of a gender problem then a racial problem

You already forget this guy?

I mean literally a white supremacist became President. These folks feel empowered now.

What America is seeing with these outbursts isn't empowerment, it's people being backed into a corner. As in, these people feel existentially threatened by progressives that are constantly challenging their core values. They lash out get slapped down and become martyrs. It's important to realize that their ideology was shown to not have a provable basis, so in an effort to not be "wrong" they've been shopping for someone who will agree which itself is the real echochamber.

good credit (by proxy)
I'm making 200+k but I can't hate on minorities, women, gays at work. Woe is me!

Maybe all the conservative software developer who actually think like this can go up on the Google roof and threaten to jump off, and everyone will just let them.

The mindset within tech amongst, a lot of, males is very much along the lines of "Just hire the best". Their answers more often than not are:

* Not our fault woman don't enter tech
* Just hire the best for the job

This honestly did not shock me one bit. If you're actually in the main industry cities (SF, Seattle, NYC) then you know this attitude is rampant.

They're realizing that keeping their bigotry to themselves doesn't really have consequences anymore/never did

well I know many Indian-Americans tend to be conservative

Hindu nationalists like the post-9/11 anti-Muslim stance. And the economic message (lower taxes) of the right has long been compelling to many highly educated South Asian immigrants.

I feel like ideological diversity is sort of the point of diversity programs. I don't mean in a conservative vs liberal way, but more in a "people that have different upbringings have unique viewpoints that are complementary to each other, and you need multiple perspectives to fully vet a product"

"dude why can't we openly express how much we think our coworkers are biologically inferior?"

The sheer amount of Silicon Valley libertarians convinces me that there is no drought of conservative opinions in tech companies.

Why would you share something like this via his work email to coworkers?

A lot of companies have intranets and it's entirely possible this was not meant to be seen by the entire company given the use of "viral" in the post. Someone within the smaller group may have shared it to others and the cycle begins.

Do you really think he hit post expecting that there would be no consequences? This is like exactly the thing you post because you do. It's an act of defiance against what he perceives as bad culture.

What you might be mistaking is the "loud and proud" strategy (made popular by minority movements). As in, they feel they are censored and so they yell to be heard. They know there are consequences for it, and in many cases they want to be a martyr for their cause because this sort of thing signal boosts. This guy wants to be a hero to groups on the internet.
